As Kodwen shouted the trigger word, Xia Yu, standing on the city wall, crouched down and placed her hands on the wall, continuously reinforcing it. Simultaneously, the entire steel-forged exterior of the city wall quickly extended upwards, forming a protective arc to shield those within.
Just as she completed this task, a violent tremor shook beneath her feet. Even though everyone present had mentally prepared for the impact, clutching onto whatever objects could anchor them to the ground, they were still knocked askew by the violent shaking. The steel walls, driven deep into the earth, wobbled fiercely, flinging numerous Demon Race soldiers off the ramparts.
Five whole minutes later, as the aftershocks of the earthquake gradually subsided, Xia Yu rubbed her shoulder and staggered to her feet. She once again placed her hands on the wall, and as she infused her power into it, the wall slowly returned to its previous state. Just as the curved shield gradually vanished, a surge of heat swept in, forcing Xia Yu to duck behind the battlements, peeking through with squinted eyes.
The scene before her made Xia Yu gasp; it truly lived up to this realm's name. Kodwen, who sacrificed his subordinates but never used the traps beneath the first line of defense at the most critical moment, ordered Liang Qian to simultaneously detonate the hidden mines as the enemy broke through the line and surged towards the second wall.
Earth, transformed into TNT and mixed with pre-planted Demon Fire, caused massive casualties among the Red Armored Warriors. On the ground below the wall, now unrecognizable, the towering Demon Flames burned ceaselessly. Gaping holes were blown into the first line of defense, flanked without reinforcement, and amidst the ruins lay bodies of enemies charred black. Those who survived by a fluke were scorched by Demon Fire, rolling on the ground with dreadful wails.
Shocked by the scene, Xia Yu felt something constantly hitting her face. Initially thinking it was snowflakes, she paid it no mind until something sticky landed on her hand, and she realized something was amiss. Looking up, she saw that along with the falling snowflakes, explosions had flung dirt and enemy flesh, which fell with the wind, reaching inside the walls. Unable to bear it any longer, Xia Yu shook off the stuff from her hand, clutching the wall and retching violently. Beside her was Catherine, who had already vomited everything out before her.
Kodwen, too excited to notice Xia Yu's current feelings, watched the heavily damaged Armored Warriors below. A sense of vengeance avenged coursed through him. He slapped himself hard, took several deep breaths to curb his impulse to leap over the wall and fight his foes hand-to-hand. Regaining his composure, Kodwen turned and shouted to those behind him: "Is the Warlock Group ready?"
Soon, when he saw the signal flag in the messenger's hand indicating everything was ready, he immediately ordered the warlocks to commence their attack. Moments later, two jet-black gleams swept across the ramparts, impacting directly on the battlefield. These Red Armored Warriors, who had evaded Jiang Feiyang's artillery and survived Liang Qian's pre-set explosives, found themselves utterly annihilated by the sweeping force of death, consumed by black brilliance in resentment and rage.
At the sight of victory outside the city, the Demon Race warriors atop the wall erupted in thunderous cheers. However, their joy was short-lived, as one red figure after another appeared stepping over the unextinguished embers, illuminated by the firelight in everyone's vision.
"Stay alert! The real battle begins now!" Kodwen, upon witnessing this, glanced at the sky, thwarted by the No-fly Zone and ordered: "Prepare the Hellhounds to charge; Harpies must be ready to take flight so that none of these observers approach the wall!"
While Kodwen was running back and forth giving commands atop the wall, Xia Yu, having stemmed her nausea, heard a noise in her ear. After receiving the transmitted orders, she sighed and came to Kodwen's side, saying: "Sorry, Mr. Kodwen, we have to leave. The all-out assault is about to start, and we must head to the main battlefield!"
Upon hearing this, Kodwen was briefly stunned. He slowed his steps, showing a touch of regret but then shook his head, forcing a smile: "Of course! That's the main act tonight, after all. You've already greatly aided us; from here, it's up to us."
"Will you be able to hold out?" Xia Yu couldn't help but ask.
"In the first two waves, we lost nearly two thousand troops, while the enemy lost at least three thousand in this attack. We've gained the upper hand. As for the battles to come, don't worry; we'll endure!" Kodwen said as he personally escorted the three to the Teleportation Mirror. Watching their figures step into it, he turned and asked the guard beside him: "How are those warlock masters doing?"
"They're all completely spent, and many are coughing up blood! Since leading a non-specialized warlock group to channel the Demon God's acclaim, they've suffered some backlash."
Hearing this, Kodwen sighed deeply, waved his hand, and said: "Let them leave too. They can't contribute much to the battles ahead. Their survival is more beneficial to the Demon Race."
"Yes!"
"After the warlock group is teleported away, destroy the Teleportation Mirror!" He said in response to the guard's astonished look, slowly drawing his longsword from his waist and walking step by step towards the wall through the falling snowflakes.
Waiting by the Teleportation Mirror, Pei Yan smiled at Xia Yu as she emerged and asked: "How's the battle going over there? It was quite the commotion. I felt the explosion even from here."
Observing the grim expressions of the three, Pei Yan frowned: "Is the situation not looking too good?"
"Yes!" Ye Ruozai nodded: "The power gap is too large. Without ambushes and backup, it's down to face-to-face confrontation; these veteran soldiers..."
Ye Ruozai didn't continue, but Pei Yan already understood his meaning. With a sigh, he turned and said to Jiang Feiyang beside him: "Don't cut off the artillery support. Right now, you're their only source of firepower."
"Got it!" Jiang Feiyang, chewing his gum, casually replied.
"The Demon Race's main forces are fully assembled. Next, we launch the full assault!" Pei Yan said, glancing around and spoke in a heavy tone: "Everyone, follow the plan we discussed earlier! Xia, coordinate with Old Jiang and prepare! Catherine, come with me! Everyone else, take your positions!"
"Yes!"
In the vast snowy expanse, amidst the deafening artillery fire from afar, Xia Yu glanced at Jiang Feiyang, who was crouched on the ground, carefully arranging toy soldiers from his storage ring. She then looked up at the diminishing Red Scourge in the sky over Snow Peak Territory and nagged: "Can't you move faster? They've started the all-out assault over there, and you're still arranging, arranging! By the time you finish, it'll all be over!"
"What do you know? Good things take time. I specially ordered these toy soldiers for this battle!" Jiang Feiyang retorted, handling the figures with excitement swirling on his face.
