CHAPTER 23: CHAPTER 23: AUNT REQUESTS LEAVE

"Still up?"

Sienna Thornton knew it was Simon Forrester.

His voice was distinctive, deep, yet with a hint of tenderness, especially in such a night that weighed heavily on the mood.

"I like this corner that feels like a viewing platform," Sienna didn’t turn around, doing her best to sound light and cheerful despite her gloom, "so, may I borrow your living room?"

"Of course," A glass of milk suddenly appeared in front of her, "Care for some milk?"

Simon lay on the other side of the recliner, his fingers holding the clear glass were long and fair, with neatly trimmed nails, very pleasant to look at.

"No, thanks," Sienna slowly moved her gaze to his face.

Simon smiled, the milk glass touched his warm lips, the milky white liquid slowly slid from his mouth to his esophagus.

Seeing his alluring Adam’s apple moving under the fair skin of his neck, Sienna felt a jolt, and somewhat uneasily looked away.

"Can’t sleep, are you worried about your daughter’s safety?"

Sienna was taken aback, then smiled as if coming to her senses, "Mrs. Reed wouldn’t harm a little kitten, right?"

"A cat?"

"Yes, Laura is a very cute ragdoll cat, she’s been with me for many years, like my own daughter."

"..." Simon did not reply, after a moment, he mockingly curled his lips and drained the glass of milk.

The atmosphere fell into an awkward silence, seeing he didn’t intend to speak again, Sienna awkwardly tried to make conversation: "Your home’s style is quite unique."

"Really?"

"Yes, very simple and transparent."

Sienna was not skilled in interior design.

Before escaping from that mountain at fifteen, she lived in a mud house with unpainted walls and perpetually sandy floors.

Therefore, she didn’t say much on this topic.

In unfamiliar territories, talking too much equates to flaunting one’s ignorance.

Sometimes, language should be endowed with power and meaning.

For her cautious words, Simon seemed to vaguely understand the reason, he smiled as a response to Sienna.

"Remember to turn off the lights, good night."

After Simon left, Sienna continued to be lost in thought.

In the northern city of Brimfield, late autumn was already quite chilly, with desolation all around. The heating was on indoors, and possibly also fragrant scents filled the space with the warmth, making it very comfortable.

Sienna lay on the recliner by the floor-to-ceiling window, and slowly, she fell asleep.

When she woke up again, sunlight was pouring in through the window, and she found herself lying comfortably in the guest bed.

The room was empty, and she slowly sat up from the bed and called out to the door, "Auntie?"

Auntie King pushed the door open and entered, "Lawyer Thornton, you’re awake?"

Sienna looked down at herself, wearing the same clothes from yesterday, and asked, "Was it you who helped me to bed last night?"

"No, you told me to go ahead last night, so I went to sleep in the next room, slept till daylight."

"Then it must have been me who groggily got to bed in the middle of the night," Sienna patted her groggy head and glanced at the time on her phone, "It’s almost noon."

"Yes, get up and wash up, I’ve already prepared lunch." Auntie King diligently assisted Sienna in getting up, helped her change clothes, washed up, and then helped her to the dining area.

Four dishes beneficial for bone fracture recovery were laid out on the table, Sienna took a spoonful of beef and tomato soup and remarked, "This is great!"

Auntie King then added some more soup for her.

"Lawyer Thornton, with the weather getting chilly suddenly, I’d like to take a few days off to go back and get some clothes for the change of seasons."
