CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: THE HOUSE OF ICE

Sienna Thornton knowingly smiled but didn’t press Simon Forrester about why his ears were so thoroughly red.

Such an easily shy older man!

She cleared her throat softly, held back her smile, and went to sit down in the dining room.

Simon Forrester sat across from her, at the moment scooping potato porridge with a spoon, looking as though it was hard to swallow.

"Not eating?" Sienna chuckled, "Looks like you want to try making it again..."

Realizing she was teasing him about wanting her to strip for a temperature cure, Simon glanced at her coldly and took a bite of the porridge.

After swallowing, his body paused slightly.

A second bite, a third...

Finishing the last bite, he elegantly wiped his mouth with a napkin, then leaned back against the leather dining chair, raised an eyebrow at Sienna, surprise in his eyes, "This potato porridge doesn’t taste like potato porridge."

"Of course," Sienna boasted, "It’s made with pork bones, oysters, and pork tummy soup, then cooked into porridge with cinnamon, codonopsis, clove, potato, and white rice."

"The taste is not bad." Simon’s lips curved into a very light smile.

"Is it really tasty?"

"Mm."

Sienna giggled, got up, and began clearing the dishes from the table.

Just as she touched Simon’s bowl, he said plainly, "There’s a dishwasher in the kitchen. I’ll do it."

"It’s fine, I’ll take care of it. The patient should rest more," Sienna smiled sweetly at Simon, clearing the tableware thoroughly.

The dishwasher was too advanced for her to use, so she washed the dishes by hand and placed them in the sterilizer. Then she took out the kumquats and bananas she had bought earlier, washed and cut them into pieces.

She was about to call Simon from the master bedroom to eat some fruit, but when passing the study, she saw he was already working at the desk. So she took the plate of fruit to the door and knocked three times lightly.

Simon seemed surprised that she brought in some fruit, paused for a moment, then invited her in.

This was also her first time closely admiring Simon’s study.

The four walls of the study were surrounded by floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with books. Some books had no room on the shelves and were stacked neatly in the corners.

Sienna casually picked one up and flipped through it, smiling, "You have quite a few rare books here. Any one of them could sell for tens of thousands."

Simon slightly frowned, his marker pen not stopping, responding indifferently, "I don’t know how much they are worth, but I’m not short of money."

"..." Such show-off!

Sienna’s face still had a smile as she reminded him to eat the fruit before leaving that priceless study.

After a busy night and then shopping and cooking this morning, she felt completely drained. Just as she was about to take a nap, a video call invitation popped up on her phone.

Sienna adjusted herself into a comfortable position on the bed and answered the video call.

On the other end, Maeve noticed the unusual background and raised her voice, "Where are you?"

"The Iceberg’s house."

"?" It took Maeve a moment to react, "You’re at Simon Forrester’s place?"

Sienna crossed her legs, moved the phone camera to show off her newly painted toenails, and smiled at Maeve on the other side of the screen, "This nail polish looks nice, makes my feet look so fair and delicate!"

Purposeful flaunting, indeed suspicious!

True to Maeve’s sharp wits, she hit the nail on the head, "Simon’s skills are good, aren’t they?"

"Mhm," Sienna narcissistically gazed at her feet, unusually pale from lack of sun, "Good thing he doesn’t have a foot fetish."

Maeve lightly coughed, "Regardless of whether he has one or not, maybe don’t do these things with strangers."

"Already did it."

"..."
