CHAPTER 57: CHAPTER 57: RESCUE

Sienna Thornton was dragged away by several thugs.

Melinda Linton collapsed to the ground in tears.

Felix and his son stood helplessly to the side like a pair of cowards. It was Jenna Raines who tried to rush up with a kitchen knife, but her efforts were futile against the many, and after just a few swings, the thugs left to guard easily forced her back.

Felix Raines had a long face, looking like a pickled bitter melon left for a year, sighing deeply. He wasn’t worried about Sienna being violated by the village chief’s foolish son that night, he was lamenting the loss of the huge sum that was supposed to be his by tomorrow.

Thinking about that million shining like white blossoms, he gathered a bit of courage, took a crumpled cigarette pack to the front door, took out two cigarettes to flatteringly light them for the two thugs guarding the door. He hadn’t even spoken when one of them harshly warned him: "If you keep babbling, we’ll break your son’s legs!"

Felix Raines was at his wit’s end, not having much knowledge to begin with; to expect him to save Sienna Thornton with just his words was harder than climbing to the heavens.

The Raines family father and son sat silently on the worn-out round stools for half the day, as the two gate-keeping thugs swaggered away seeing them quiet.

Jared Raines said he wanted to call his girlfriend. Shortly after stepping out, he ran back in, shouting, "Dad, there’s a car outside!"

"Who is it?" Felix Raines stood shivering, "Did the village chief send someone to capture us?"

"It’s an imported car! It’s not the village chief’s broken ’Geely’!"

Instinctively, Felix Raines thought it must be Sienna Thornton’s friends from the city who had come. He quickly stood up, tidied the few stray hairs on his head, and adjusted his cheap suit that hadn’t been changed for over half a month.

But as soon as he rushed to the door, he was forced back by those outside.

Jared Raines pointed at the visitor and blurted out, "It’s the man from the hospital!"

In the room with Melinda Linton, Jenna Raines heard and ran out. Upon seeing Simon Forrester, appearing with Maeve, who was dressed in a smart black leather jacket exuding an aura she had never encountered, she was momentarily stunned before stepping forward.

Simon Forrester looked exhausted from the overnight journey, speaking sternly: "Where’s Lawyer Thornton?"

Jenna Raines glanced timidly at her father and brother. Before she could speak, Felix Raines interjected, "She’s resting inside. Did you bring the money?"

Jenna Raines understood her father’s intention, silently stepping to the side.

Maeve gave Simon Forrester a look, and he immediately turned to close the Raines’ front door, blocking Jared Raines outside.

Felix Raines ran up, intending to open the door for Jared Raines to come in, but Simon Forrester quickly cornered him against the wall.

Jenna Raines stood still, unable to move.

Maeve walked toward the bedroom and saw Melinda Linton crying by the window, asking, "Auntie, I’m Maeve. Where’s Sienna?"

Melinda Linton shakily stood and wiped her tears with the back of her hand, crying, "Annie was taken by the village chief, and they said tonight she has to consummate with his son!"

Standing outside, Simon Forrester heard the word "consummate" and immediately lifted the frail Felix Raines like a chick, gritting his teeth, "Take us to the village chief’s house!"

Even at this moment, Felix Raines was preoccupied with that million.

He raised his head, boldly meeting Simon Forrester’s murderous gaze, asking, "My eldest daughter promised to add another two hundred thousand, making it a total of one million, and to buy us a house in the city. Can you vouch for this? If you can, I’ll take you to the village chief’s house!"

"Are you out of your mind? Seizing the opportunity to extort while saving lives?" Maeve stepped forward.

Felix Raines recoiled slightly, about to complain, when Simon Forrester straightforwardly said, "The eight hundred thousand is in my car. As long as you take us to the village chief’s house, that eight hundred thousand is yours. Once Lawyer Thornton is rescued, I’ll immediately give you the house and the remaining two hundred thousand!"

Seeing Felix Raines’s skeptical face, Simon Forrester released him to the ground and opened the door, yelling, "Come out and take the money!"

The Raines father and son eagerly hurried out with Simon Forrester.

Simon Forrester took a black duffel bag from the trunk and tossed it to Felix Raines. Jared Raines shone a flashlight from his phone to illuminate for Felix Raines.

Seeing the bundles of cash still sealed with the bank’s stamp, Felix Raines smiled broadly and hurried to instruct Jared Raines, "I’ll hide the money first, son, you lead them to the village chief’s house!"

Jared Raines was also extremely happy, promptly leading the way for Simon Forrester and Maeve.
