Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike
Chapter 81 - 80: Clarification
CHAPTER 81: CHAPTER 80: CLARIFICATION
Simon Forrester stood at the foot of the bed, his expression calm.
The dim hospital room light made his figure taller and more imposing than during the day.
Sienna Thornton sat on the hospital bed, looking up at him, feeling inexplicably uneasy, her heart racing. Clearly, she was the victim, yet she felt nervous without any reason.
Simon Forrester looked at her quietly for a moment before speaking lightly, "I hope this is the last time."
"What about that person?" Sienna Thornton steadied herself and took over the conversation.
"Detained," Simon Forrester turned around, poured a glass of water, and handed it to her. "When she attacked you, Auntie King hid in the kitchen and recorded the whole process on her phone."
Sienna Thornton weakly smiled, "Auntie is very smart."
"Indeed. However," Simon Forrester paused, "she has already resigned."
"I understand, let her go if she wants to. Encountering such an incident twice in a row probably scared her too."
Simon Forrester nodded and sat on the caregiver’s stool beside the bed, "I’ll have Harrison Rowe find a new caregiver."
Sienna Thornton replied politely, "No need, I can manage myself."
She had long been used to managing without a caregiver’s help. Besides, Simon Forrester had saved her several times in a row, and she didn’t want to waste his money. This matter shouldn’t be his responsibility in the first place.
"Alright," Simon Forrester agreed readily, "if you need help, you can have your friends come over to accompany you."
At this, Sienna Thornton suddenly remembered, "Oh, don’t let Maeve know about this."
"Okay." Simon Forrester didn’t ask further.
The atmosphere fell silent.
Sienna Thornton held the water cup, drinking while piecing together fragmented memories from before she fainted.
Recalling the lie Simon Forrester told to save her, she felt a bit guilty and asked, "Now that Mrs. Reed thinks we ’got married,’ will this affect you somehow?"
Simon Forrester was unconcerned, "No effect, just need to clarify."
Sienna Thornton sighed in relief, though relieved that she hadn’t caused Simon Forrester irreversible trouble, but there were still many unresolved issues.
Mrs. Reed’s family had underworld connections, and if Mrs. Reed went to jail for this matter, she might have endless trouble, unless she didn’t want to stay in Brimfield.
But if she didn’t pursue it, one, it would make her seem easily bullied; two, she couldn’t quite swallow that breath of resentment.
"What about you, does it affect you?" Simon Forrester asked.
Sienna Thornton returned to her senses, "What?"
"Thomas Reed has been to the detention center and likely knows about our ’marriage’ from his wife by now."
Sienna Thornton "oh"-ed and asked back, "Aren’t you going to clarify?"
Simon Forrester’s face turned cold, as if covered in frost, quietly looking at her, his voice deepened, "So you’re still worried about Thomas Reed’s misunderstanding?"
Sienna Thornton realized and explained, "I don’t know many people in Brimfield, so this doesn’t affect me much. It’s mainly you. With Thomas Reed, just clarify, don’t worry about me."
Her words didn’t actually ease Simon Forrester’s mind, hence he still couldn’t figure out her relationship with Thomas Reed, which is why he momentarily showed emotion earlier.
Simon Forrester composed himself and instructed simply, "Don’t let the wound get wet. I’m heading out now and will come back later."
He left the hospital, driving directly to "Vantage."
As soon as he exited the elevator, Leanne Norton, waiting at the front desk, immediately approached, warmly, "Mr. Forrester, Partner Reed is on his way, I’ll take you to the meeting room first."
Simon Forrester nodded and followed her.
"Vantage" ranked among the top three in the country for its comprehensive business capabilities as a partnership law firm, mainly dealing in six sectors: Corporate, Capital Markets and Securities, Intellectual Property, Dispute Resolution, Finance, Antitrust and International Trade.
Sienna Thornton was one of the lawyers handling antitrust and international trade disputes.
It was already seven in the evening, yet the law firm lobby was bustling with activity, from clients coming in for various cases to the firm’s lawyers and investigators. As Simon Forrester walked through, many gave him curious glances.
Leanne Norton originally led the way, then slowed her pace to walk alongside Simon Forrester, speaking ingratiatingly, "Mr. Forrester doesn’t come to our firm often, everyone finds you quite a novelty."
Simon Forrester ignored her, walking straight ahead.
In the meeting room, he found a seat and sat down. Seeing that Leanne Norton had no intention of leaving, he coldly remarked, "Go ahead and get busy."
"I’m not busy," Leanne Norton smiled ingratiatingly, "I’ll stay here and wait for Partner Reed with you."
"..." Simon Forrester raised an eyebrow, giving her a faint glance before retracting his gaze and taking out his phone to handle work.
Leanne Norton: "How is Lawyer Thornton? Will she have a scar?"
Simon Forrester’s long fingers paused on the screen, raising his eyes to look at Leanne Norton, his question cold and direct, "So, were you the one who told Mrs. Reed Lawyer Thornton’s address?"
