CHAPTER 279: CHAPTER 281: MANIAC, PLEASE COME WITH US IMMEDIATELY!
Always in a state between sleep and wakefulness, she didn’t find any rest; instead, she grew increasingly tired the more she tried to sleep. Her entire body ached with fatigue, so heavy she couldn’t muster an ounce of strength.
Finally, the sky outside the floor-to-ceiling windows gradually brightened.
Sophie Sullivan propped her body up, got out of bed, and with a SWISH—drew open the curtains. The sky had already turned the fish-belly whiteness of dawn, and birds were beginning to sing inside the manor. She could tell it was going to be another beautiful, sunny day.
She raised her hand to her forehead and let out a faint sigh, murmuring to herself, "Sophie, are you too nervous? Or too excited?"
She had told herself to rest well and prepare for the surgery, but this night’s sleep quality was truly the worst she’d ever experienced, bar none.
Since she was already awake, she changed out of her sleep gown and went into the bath chamber to wash up. Seeing Thomas Shannon’s mouth cup and toothbrush on the washstand, along with his razor and mouthwash, she felt inexplicably irritated. She couldn’t pinpoint why. Sophie hurriedly brushed her teeth, washed her face, and left the bedroom.
Downstairs, she had breakfast.
After breakfast, she couldn’t sit still any longer. She asked the men in black to take her to the hospital, even though her surgery was still more than two hours away. She couldn’t wait any longer.
Arriving at George Stanford’s hospital, Sophie was escorted by the men in black to his office.
"Hello, are you looking for Dr. Standford?" a sweet-voiced nurse asked.
Sophie nodded. "I’m the one having surgery today."
Understanding dawned on the nurse. She had heard that Dr. Standford had cleared his schedule to perform surgery on a Big Shot. The nurses were also curious. Wasn’t Dr. Standford known for not treating nobles or tycoons? Why had he made an exception this time?
Without asking further questions, the nurse asked her to follow her to perform a simple physical examination, checking if all her vitals met the basic requirements for surgery.
After the examination was completed, the nurse hooked Sophie up to an IV. George Stanford arrived, wearing his white lab coat, and asked her, "How do you feel? Are you nervous?"
"I’m fine."
"The procedure will be done under general anesthesia, so you don’t need to worry. You’ll just sleep through it, and it’ll be over," George Stanford said as he began to instruct the nurses to prepare for the surgery.
Sophie slowly closed her eyes as she was wheeled into the operating room.
The nurse removed her mask and began to disinfect a large area of her face.
George Stanford, having changed into sterile clothing and put on a mask and gloves, walked in.
"Is everything ready?"
"Everything’s ready, Dr. Standford," the nurse replied.
"Administer the anesthesia."
"Yes, Doctor." The anesthesiologist prepared to administer the anesthesia to Sophie...
Just at that critical moment, the doors to the operating room were suddenly pushed open.
A nurse rushed in, shouting urgently as she ran, "Dr. Standford, stop! Hold on!"
Everyone stopped what they were doing. Even Sophie, who had closed her eyes ready for the anesthesia to take effect, couldn’t help but open them.
The young nurse ran to the side of the operating table, panting, "It’s... it’s Young Master Shannon! He’s sent someone!"
"What’s going on?" George Stanford frowned, a vague premonition stirring as he looked at Sophie.
Sophie looked utterly bewildered. "I don’t know anything."
"Nonsense, of course you don’t know!" George Stanford retorted. That phone call yesterday to Thomas Shannon, the one William Guillen had picked up instead... that deafening explosion still seemed to reverberate in his ears. How could she possibly know? He then guessed, Could it be... Young Master Shannon is injured?
The men in black barged into the operating room. One of them glanced at Sophie, who still hadn’t received anesthesia, and said urgently, "Maniac, you need to come with us immediately!"
"What happened?"
Why do I have to go now?
