Chapter 405: Chapter 408 The Past of the Tentacle Monster
Although it’s unclear why the Tentacle Monster suddenly stopped moving, Wang Cai certainly didn’t bother with that. Since it got devoured into his domain, this detestable octopus must suffer a bit—at the very least, it owes him big time for squirting ink all over his face.
“Run, why don’t you run now?” Wang Cai slowly approached the Tentacle Monster, lifted a huge black paw and gently patted the top of its head, then asked with a grin.
Upon seeing Wang Cai’s smile, the Tentacle Monster immediately felt chills spreading through its body, even feeling a tightening around its “anemone,” instinctively sensing that something bad was about to happen.
The Tentacle Monster’s little eyes were situated right on its bald head, and right now, it was staring at Wang Cai without saying a word.
Although it was successfully killed by Mu Can, as the Guardian Beast of the Heavenly Pillar, its greatest advantage was being Undying and one with the space. Even if a Challenger could defeat it, they could never truly kill it.
But the recent incident had completely overturned its understanding of the Heavenly Pillar; what it thought would be an everlasting presence was suddenly destroyed, and it was pulled into a strange place. The world the Tentacle Monster was now in was nothing like its previous space—it was filled with vitality everywhere. If it weren’t for this annoying dog in front of it, the Tentacle Monster wouldn’t mind living here at all.
A long life is certainly important, but sometimes freedom is even more precious. Throughout its vast span of existence, living in that confined space occupied most of the Tentacle Monster’s memories—it had no idea what the outside world was truly like.
“Talk, woof! Otherwise, Lord Wang Cai will eat you.” Wang Cai gnashed his teeth. This pesky little octopus had really gotten on Lord Wang Cai’s nerves—its stinky, spirit-tainting ink had given him a hard time.
“I’m not scared of you. I know it was you messing around secretly just now, otherwise, with that kid’s abilities, he couldn’t have passed the test,” said the shrunken Tentacle Monster, which lacked the ferocity it once had. It was now the size of a palm and even looked a bit cute as it furiously glared at Wang Cai with its tiny eyes.
“Hehe, pretty arrogant for someone who’s been caught,” Wang Cai chuckled. At this moment, the little squadron within the Reincarnation Pearl Fourth Layer also arrived, surrounding the Tentacle Monster from all sides.
“Uncle Wang Cai, what is this?” Dimwit, who had grown much bigger over the past few days, was now a lot taller than before. Previously, compared to the current size of the Tentacle Monster, Dimwit was only the size of a palm, looking like a tiny ornament hanging on Mu Can but now had grown to the size of a person, with wrists as thick as arms. Currently, waving two little branches, he was exuberantly staring at the Tentacle Monster, having never seen such a strange creature before.
“This? It’s called an octopus, a delicious ingredient,” explained Wang Cai, pretending to be knowledgeable. Although he wasn’t sure what exactly the Tentacle Monster was, considering its appearance, it resembled a small octopus, so he casually called it that.
“No, that’s not right. Look at its long tentacles and slightly pointed chin—it’s clearly a squid. I’m telling you, squid is a delicious ingredient, especially cooked teppanyaki-style. That flavor, tsk tsk tsk.” Xiao Hong could never be left out of such matters, flapping its wings and eyeing the Tentacle Monster as if appraising some rare object.
“Wuu wuu wuu wuu.” Little Fortune also couldn’t be left out of this affair. Though it couldn’t speak, it squatted to one side, staring intently at the Tentacle Monster in the middle, ready to leap with its claws the moment the creature dared to move.
“See? You’re surrounded by us now. Confess your origins quickly, or I’ll turn you into either a teppanyaki octopus or a teppanyaki squid, no matter what you are, we’ll eat you,” Wang Cai threatened, baring his teeth.
“I don’t eat meat. I’ll just watch you guys eat,” said the Treant Dimwit, raising a branch weakly.
“It’s none of your business, just watch if you don’t eat.”
“Okay,” Dimwit nodded.
“So, have you thought it over?” Wang Cai somehow conjured a chair out of thin air and sat down leisurely, looking rather relaxed.
“Then don’t eat me, I am now a Spiritual Body, not tasty,” the Tentacle Monster said, no longer showing its previous arrogance, but instead exuding a pitiful aura. Even Wang Cai felt a bit of regret for his prior anger, thinking he might have been too harsh on the Tentacle Monster.
“Speak up, and we won’t eat you,” said Wang Cai, who was now somewhat questioning the sex of the Tentacle Monster. Could this little creature, resembling an octopus, possibly be female?
Upon reflection, that seemed quite possible.
As Mu Can was recovering his Spiritual Power, he also observed the activity within the Reincarnation Pearl Fourth Layer. He thought that upon seeing the Tentacle Monster, Wang Cai would first give it a thorough beating considering the stench was enough to nauseate Mu Can at a distance, let alone Wang Cai who got sprayed right in the face.
However, to Mu Can’s surprise, Wang Cai was exceptionally amenable today, showing none of his usual frenzied anger but instead calmly listened to the Tentacle Monster’s story. This sparked great curiosity in him, so he too listened carefully to the Tentacle Monster’s account.
It turned out the Tentacle Monster had a simple past. It was originally living in an ocean known as the Sky Sea, having resided there since its birth. However, one day it was suddenly captured by a group of people and eventually locked inside the fourth Heavenly Pillar. In that pillar, the Tentacle Monster could be considered Undying, but over an unknown period, people would enter the Heavenly Pillar Space, like Mu Can and his challengers. Although it was undying, being defeated by a Challenger would plunge it into an unbearable agony before it could resurrect. Thus, the Guardian Beasts in the pillars fought in two extremes—either fight to the death with no fear, determined to kill the Challengers, or run away to exhaust the Challengers’ time to achieve victory.
“Do you know who captured you in the first place?” Wang Cai inquired. Unfortunately, the Tentacle Monster’s memory seemed to be faulty; it only knew so much about the affairs of the Heavenly Pillar.
