Chapter 495: Chapter 509: Sun Yao’s Provocation
Throughout the morning, Ling Feng familiarized the new students with every corner of the Divine Wind Academy.
In the afternoon, it was time for the new students to challenge each other.
Everyone knew that after enrollment, thirty Academic Points would be granted every month for free.
For the newcomers, these thirty points were barely sufficient.
But it was still a long way from being enough to sustain them comfortably.
Ever since hearing about the challenges among new students, many quick-witted individuals began scheming to win some points from others.
For example, a silver-tier youth with first-rate talent, named Sun Yao, who hailed from the not-so-small Sun Family.
Sun Yao was born with astonishing talent and had always had smooth sailing, which led him to develop a petty nature.
Just like how he felt overshadowed by Mu Can during the talent assessment upon their admission.
He had since held a grudge against Mu Can, simmering with the intent to crush Mu Can’s prestige today.
After a quick lunch, Ling Feng led the cohort to the martial arts arena.
This was the only place in the Divine Wind Academy where combat was allowed.
Perhaps because everyone knew there was going to be a competition among the new students today, the arena was already crowded with senior students.
Watching the new kids being sized up and commented upon made Mu Can’s brows furrow slightly.
“These guys seem a bit arrogant,” Luo Tian said as he leaned close to Mu Can.
“Let’s wait and see,” Mu Can nodded, preferring not to stir up trouble right after arriving if it wasn’t necessary.
Keep a low profile, grow quietly, avoid rashness.
“The martial arts arena is an important facility of the Divine Wind Academy; the specially crafted stage here can withstand the attacks of those in the Wuwei Realm.”
The Divine Wind Academy has invested a great deal of manpower and financial resources in the construction of the arena.
Every day, a peak Wuwei Realm teacher is stationed here to ensure the students’ safety during fights as far as possible.
“In terms of combat, the Divine Wind Academy places high importance on it, which is why this place is as popular as the Cultivation Room. However, there’s one thing you need to remember: the combat in the arena must be a fair fight agreed upon by both parties,” Ling Feng, pointing to the massive venue, introduced to everyone.
“Ling Feng senior, what constitutes a fair fight?” asked a second-rate talented girl.
The girl’s slender ponytail swayed enerously, exuding an indescribable youthful charm.
“The teacher once said, fairness means mutual consent. The Divine Wind Academy respects everyone’s wishes. If you are in the Spirit Transformation Realm and wish to challenge someone in the Primordial Realm, as long as the other party agrees, it’s fair. Although there’s a difference in strength, it’s fair because it’s voluntary.”
Ling Feng explained that every year there are no shortage of people here who achieve cross-rank battles.
In the history of the Divine Wind Academy, there was even a case where someone in the Freedom Realm managed to defeat an opponent in the Wuwei Realm.
However, that was an anomaly, and also the only person in the history of the Divine Wind Academy who reached the Heavenly List while being in the Freedom Realm.
“Another thing, the stages here are engraved with Arrays which can suppress your Cultivation to the same level, allowing you to experience fair combat,” Ling Feng led the new students to a vacant stage.
Said to be a simple stage, it was actually the size of half a soccer field, where fighting here would be little different from fighting outside.
There are in total more than twenty such stages in the martial arts arena, and several hundred smaller ones.
“Alright, now you can freely challenge each other. As for wagering Academic Points, as your senior, I advise against betting your points.”
Ling Feng dismissed the new students with a wave of his hand, indicating they could now freely choose their opponents.
The reason for not encouraging the wager of Academic Points was because, during their first month, the new students were still familiarizing themselves with the academy and had little opportunity to take on tasks to earn additional points.
Thus, they needed to make those thirty points last for a month.
Ling Feng’s voice had barely faded when someone leaped onto the stage.
The two appeared to be old acquaintances with a good relationship. After exchanging a few pleasantries with clasped fists,
they treated the crowd to a splendid fight.
To become a member of Divine Wind Academy, one must either possess exceptional talent or a high level of Cultivation.
Mu Can found the fight particularly intriguing; opportunities to observe such battles were rare.
Sun Yao pondered for a moment and then walked toward Mu Can’s direction.
“Luo Tian, fancy a go?” Sun Yao didn’t challenge Mu Can straight away. He wanted to save Mu Can for last.
His current target for a lesson was Luo Tian.
“How can I fight you? I’m a Beast Tamer,” Luo Tian said, spreading his hands in a helpless gesture.
If his Summoning Beast were around, Luo Tian would undoubtedly go up and fight without a second word.
But now, a Beast Tamer without a Summoning Beast would be no different from a live target.
Luo Tian wasn’t a masochist; he certainly wasn’t up for getting beaten for no reason.
“If you’re a Beast Tamer, just summon your Summoning Beast, and we’ll have a fair fight,” Sun Yao said loudly to Luo Tian,
deliberately trying to draw everyone’s attention to embarrass Luo Tian in front of all onlookers.
“Oh? Luo Tian currently doesn’t have a Summoning Beast. How about we give it a try?” Mu Can glanced at Sun Yao.
He saw right through Sun Yao’s intentions,
which were to use the opportunity to slap Luo Tian’s face and humiliate Mu Can severely.
Unfortunately, Sun Yao had picked the wrong person; although Sun Yao was at the Peak of the Spirit Transformation Realm and Mu Can was merely at the Peak of the Void Level,
Mu Can really wasn’t afraid of him right now.
“If you’re going to make a move, then we should place a bet,” Sun Yao thought to himself with a sneer. He hadn’t expected Mu Can to be so cooperative.
It was as if Mu Can willingly offered his face for Sun Yao to hit.
If Sun Yao couldn’t earn a hefty sum of Academic Points from him on this occasion, then he would be a fool.
“Oh? Want to bet Academic Points?” Mu Can’s eyes sparkled with excitement. He was actually afraid that Sun Yao wouldn’t dare take the bet.
Upon hearing the bet, Luo Tian quickly pulled Mu Can aside.
“Let’s not engage with him. Your Cultivation level is one Major Realm below his; there’s no need to fight him now. There’s plenty of time in the future.”
Luo Tian tried to dissuade him, knowing that Mu Can’s strength was only at the Peak of the Void Level and had not reached the Spirit Transformation Realm.
Going against an opponent who was an entire Major Realm ahead would be like seeking punishment.
“Trust me,” Mu Can nodded at Luo Tian.
“How do you want to play?” Mu Can turned to face Sun Yao. There was no reason to refuse someone offering free Academic Points.
Ling Feng looked on with interest at this scene but remained silent.
Not only were the freshmen drawn in, but even the senior students who had been watching from a distance gathered around.
They had long heard that among the new batch of students, one possessed a first-class talent and another a super talent.
Little did they expect to witness a fight between the two here.
