Chapter 550: 564: The General's Power
Chapter 550: Chapter 564: The General’s Power
“Go, find me a device that can absorb Soul Fire,” Mu Can thought for a moment and spoke.
If one can enhance their body’s strength in this world, self-preservation becomes more manageable once they venture out.
“Can I be your apprentice?” Li Shan looked at Mu Can with expectation, her eyes brimming with longing.
As the City Lord’s daughter, she was extremely eager for power, not just to treat her mother.
But also because she wanted to take control of her destiny.
“I cannot take you as an apprentice, but I can teach you some things.”
Mu Can pondered; he still didn’t believe he was qualified to have disciples, so he flatly refused Li Shan. However, he felt that he could teach some of his methods to her.
“Wait here; I’ll go find some Spiritual Artifacts.” Li Shan bounced out of the room cheerfully.
“Could she possibly leak our presence here?” The Toad looked at Li Shan with suspicion, not out of distrust, but because their current situation was far too dangerous.
“Don’t worry, she won’t. At worst, we’ll just have to transport ourselves again.” Even though Mu Can said this, he had decided that unless it was a life-and-death situation, he didn’t want to use Wang Cai’s Array Plate again; that dog was too unreliable.
“I’m back.” It was evident that Li Shan ran fast; she was somewhat out of breath upon entering the room.
In Li Shan’s hands was a jade bracelet that she handed to Mu Can.
“Is this it?” Mu Can received it and played with it in his hands.
“Blood Recognition,” Li Shan reminded.
As long as one performed the Blood Recognition ritual on such a Spiritual Artifact that absorbs Soul Fire, it could be used directly. Practically everyone in the city had one.
During the day, the city’s Martial Artists would hunt undead creatures outside the city, strengthening their bodies with the harvested Ghost Fire.
The undead creatures during the day were entirely different from those at night; by day, they were like foolish, mindless bones, and even if one was disturbed, it wouldn’t cause a chain reaction. But at night, Mu Can had personally witnessed the power of the undead creatures; one touch could summon a whole swarm.
Mu Can cut his finger lightly, a drop of fresh blood fell on the bracelet, and with a flash of light, the bracelet appeared around Mu Can’s wrist.
“This is a bit too effeminate,” Mu Can formed a spell with his fingers, and the bracelet on his hand slowly morphed into a Protective Bracelet.
“It can even transform like this!” Li Shan looked at Mu Can with surprise. These Spiritual Artifacts, found in ancient ruins, varied in shape including Jade Pendants, bracelets, rings, but she had never heard of anyone capable of altering their appearance.
“This thing can absorb Soul Fire?” Mu Can extended his Spiritual Sense into the bracelet and his body shook violently.
This bracelet was a Magic Artifact, a very ordinary one from the outside, but the Arrays inscribed inside were unlike any Mu Can knew.
In this world devoid of Cultivators, how could there be such Magic Artifacts that only Cultivators could create, and how could such items be so widely distributed? What could have happened to leave only Martial Artists and no trace of Cultivator heritage?
“Wang Cai, do you recognize these Arrays?” Mu Can waved his hand casually, and a series of Arrays appeared before Wang Cai.
Wang Cai scrutinized them closely but realized that even with his mastery of Arrays, he didn’t know the purpose of these Arrays.
Mu Can and Wang Cai looked at each other, both seeing the suspicion in the other’s eyes.
A world without Cultivators somehow had Magic Artifacts that only Cultivators could craft.
In this world, there were only hordes of Undead Creatures without Spiritual Wisdom, acting merely on instinct.
There was also a strange infectious disease spread by Undead Creatures, transforming the living.
What kind of change had this world undergone to end up like this?
“It seems this world must have once been a world with Cultivators, but somehow the heritage of Cultivators was lost. Where did you get these Spiritual Artifacts from?” Mu Can glanced at Li Shan, knowing that with the strength of the people in this world, they couldn’t possibly create such Spiritual Artifacts themselves.
“They were all found in an ancient ruin. Without these Spiritual Artifacts, no one in the city would survive. In this world, only three cities like ours remain,” Li Shan explained.
After learning Mu Can was a real Cultivator, Li Shan secretly resolved to learn the ways of the Cultivators from him.
“Ancient ruins, that makes sense.” Mu Can was sure something had happened in this dimension, which resulted in the complete discontinuation of the Cultivator lineage, and these people had forgotten their origins and didn’t know how to leave here. But whether this place was still uninhabited, Mu Can himself was uncertain.
Thinking of this, Mu Can glared fiercely at Wang Cai, who was thoroughly unreliable, having transported him to such an odd place.
Knock-knock-knock! The sound of knocking came; Wang Cai, along with the Qilin Species and the Toad, disappeared at Mu Can’s side, as Mu Can hid under the bed.
“Who is it?” Mu Can gestured to Li Shan, who coldly retorted.
“Miss, it’s General’s men, they say someone suspicious has infiltrated the city and they want to conduct a search!”
A person outside spoke up; Mu Can had an idea. It seemed like in this city, the General’s power outweighed the City Lord Mansion’s by far, otherwise how could their small team dare to come to search the personal chamber of the City Lord Mansion’s young lady?
“Hmph, you dare to search my chamber?” Li Shan spoke coldly, but in doing so, she glanced back at Mu Can.
While the people outside were conflicted, Li Shan directly opened the door.
With a cold face, Li Shan walked out; outside stood a dozen soldiers under the General’s command, led by a Captain standing at the entrance.
“Are you rebelling?” Li Shan glared coldly at the Captain, her face full of chill.
These people were too bold; as the General’s power grew, he paid less and less regard to the City Lord.
“Miss is joking, this suspicious person is of great importance, and the General has ordered a complete search,” the Captain said with a firm tone.
“Are you all just going to watch?” Li Shan looked at the Guards of the City Lord Mansion beside her and spoke.
The Guards exchanged looks, none of them speaking.
