Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary
Chapter 305 305 Jasmine’s and Olivia’s Harrowing Battle (2)
Jasmine tried to force Vandalen off of her, but the more she struggled the worse the wound in her side became.
She could feel her blood rushing out of the cut, and the pain was making it difficult for her to move how she wanted.
Olivia was also in rough shape, and Vandalen's boss was lumbering towards her with a look of disinterest on his face.
As far as he was concerned, this fight was over and no longer had anything exciting to offer. All that was left was to finish things off and capture Jasmine and Olivia.
Then, he could pump them for information at his leisure and once he had what he wanted, he would dispose of them.
If they were lucky, he would just have them killed. But Jasmine had the feeling that a far worse fate was in store for them if they ended up being caught.
'I can't let that happen!'
Summoning up all of her strength and willpower, Jasmine pushed both of her legs into the ground and threw herself backwards.
Usually if someone tried something like this, they would not even be able to make a person wearing power armor budge a single millimeter.
Jasmine, however, possessed truly inhuman power, and for the first time she was pushing her augmented body to its limit.
The ground under her caved in from the force of her legs.
Vandalen tried to hold her down, but his power armor was fairly damaged, and he lacked the strength to do so. Though, even if he had been at full strength, he would not have been able to restrain Jasmine completely.
Once she had staggered Vandalen, Jasmine tightened all of her muscles and slammed her feet down.
She aimed for the joint in the armor where the knee was.
Since she had already hit this spot earlier it was already a bit damaged.
Taking the full force of the blow, Vandalen fell to his knees.
The was a loud snapping sound as the area Jasmine had targeted had snapped.
Alerts began flashing on the display screen in Vandalen's helmet to warn him of the no longer functioning leg.
"Let go of me already!"
Having loosened the grip on her, Jasmine managed to get one of her arms free. Specifically the one still wielding her laser pistol.
Immediately she jammed it against Vandalen's armor and began firing. He would either need to release her, or he would soon have a very uncomfortable hole burned through his torso.
Quickly he decided that letting her go would be more dangerous.
With one of his legs locked up and essentially unusable in his damaged power armor, he could not afford to let Jasmine run free now. He would never be able to catch her again.
Instead, he attempted to outright crush her with the strength of his arms. His orders had been to capture her alive, but in the face of the danger he was in, he decided to prioritize his own safety and kill her.
Pushing back against him, Jasmine used her enhanced physique to force Vandalen's arms back.
Surprisingly, her arms were a bit stronger than his power armor's, and she was actually the one gaining ground.
Unfortunately, the harder that she pushed, the more she aggravated her injury and blood poured out of it.
Right now, she was exhibiting a feat of truly superhuman ability, but she could feel herself getting colder and her strength slowly starting to wane.
Pulling down on the trigger of her laser pistol one last time, Jasmine was finally able to breach Vandalen's armor.
He let out a grunt of pain as the side of his torso where his lower ribs were horribly burned.
The blast had not been at full power due to part of it being absorbed by the last bit of durability his armor had.
Still, the damage it did to him was not insignificant, and he nearly passed out from the immense pain.
Jasmine attempted to fire again to finish him off, but her laser pistol refused to fire.
It was not meant to be shot when pressed up directly against a surface. Especially a sturdy one like the plating of power armor.
Every time she had fired with it jammed into Vandalen's armor, the weapon had taken a bit of damage itself.
Now the weapon was inoperable and would need major repairs to its internal systems before it could be fired again.
Nevertheless, her weapon had managed to do just enough.
Not knowing that another attack was not coming, Vandalen had released Jasmine and jumped backwards with his one working leg.
The struggle between the two of them had only lasted a few seconds, but for both of them, it had felt like an aggravatingly long time.
'At least I can finally treat this.' Jasmine thought, her hand pressed against the large gash in her side.
While she forcefully closed the wound with one of her hands, dyeing it red in her own blood, she used the other break open a few capsules of nano machine medicine applied what was inside directly to the area of injury.
This hurt like absolute hell, but it would heal her a bit faster than if she just swallowed the capsules.
Of course, considering that she had taken some damage in other places, she shoved a few capsules down her throat as well.
Fighting off Vandalen had truthfully been the least of her worries.
The man's boss had just cornered Olivia after playing with her like a cat would a mouse.
Without their main weapons, it was going to prove very difficult to beat him.
'I've still got a few tools that I can try and use, but I don't know how effective that they'll be against someone like him.'
Jasmine pulled out a couple of disks that would emit a strong eclectic pulse when attached.
She had not tried using them against Vandalen since his power armor was almost certainly heavily insulated against electrical discharges.
Though, now that there was a hole in the suit, it would probably be able to give him a good shock.
Giving it a try, Jasmine tossed one of the disks at Vandalen who was struggling to move.
For a second he remained fine, but eventually the discharge penetrated his damaged power armor and paralyzed him.
That was at least one threat down, but the main one still remained.
"Hey! I just crushed your lacky. So now it's your turn." Jasmine shouted to get the giant bahnen's attention.
Except, he did not respond to her provocation at all. Instead, remaining focused on Olivia. He was not about to let prey that he had already cornered go just because his incompetent subordinate had been beaten.
He would incapacitate Olivia and then go after Jasmine at his leisure.
Seeing that he was not going to react the way she wanted, Jasmine flung another of her discharge disks at him.
Yet, just before the device reached him, he swung around with his club and pulverized it without even turning back to look.
In that same motion he attack Olivia.
Just barely, she was able to dodge the club before it crushed her against the wall she had back ed up to.
Using her agility, she attempted to close the distance between them and fire her own laser pistol at pointblank range.
Before she could though, the man swiped his free hand towards her and grabbed ahold of her.
Olivia let out a scream as he began crushing her in his grip. It did not take long for her ribs to start creaking under the pressure.
Jasmine heard the first sickening crack as one of Olivia's ribs broke
Her eyes scanned the surroundings and her mind raced to figure out what it was that she could do to get them both out of this.
That's when her gaze landed on Olivia's hard light spear.
It was embedded in the room's exterior wall and just barely had not flown all the way through and out the other side.
Knowing that this was the only weapon she could hope to rely on in this situation, she momentarily ignored Olivia's cries and ran over to retrieve the spear.
When she pulled it out of the wall, something unexpected happened.
Her disconnected terminal that had not been able to pick up a signal before started buzzing.
The hole in the wall served a tiny break in the dampening field around the building that was supposed to stop any outgoing or incoming signals.
Immediately Jasmine sent an emergency transmission to the entirety of the team. Olivia had ordered her crew members to remain on standby nearby, so hopefully now that they knew something was wrong, they would come to help soon.
'Until then, I need to hold him off.' Jasmine thought, a grim determination on her face.
She had hated listening to Olivia's cries of pain without doing anything, but realistically, letting her emotions take over and rushing in would have seen her getting defeated as well.
With a proper weapon capable of harming the man, she at least now had a chance.
