CHAPTER 88: CHAPTER 27: SIGMA MEN
Back at his place, he turned on the light.
The fine line drawn at the foot of the doorframe showed no signs of being cut and reconnected, and the arrangement in the room was exactly the same as when he left.
The only problem was, he went out alone and returned alone, hoping for a bit of different fun today, but in the end, it was still the single life, commuting between two points—work and home. What a miserable life!
After entering the room, Lin Miao didn’t switch on his computer as usual but sat on the sofa and took out the unused Super Dream Ring from his backpack, placing it on the table.
Then he reached to the back of his neck, his prosthetic eye flickering blue, a chip ejected directly from the slot at his neck and flew into his hand.
Lin Miao picked up the chip and examined it under the room’s light.
This little thing is the data chip many people use to record Super Dreams. Lin Miao won it in a system lottery along with the Super Dream Ring. It documented everything Lin Miao encountered today—from meeting Lucy, the infiltration, being discovered, combat, to final escape, in great detail.
But he hadn’t tested the actual effect yet.
Ahhhh!
Lucy!
Now he was itching with excitement and scratching his head uncontrollably.
Ever since he tried a Super Dream at Lucy’s place, he couldn’t forget it, thinking it might quickly cultivate a large number of players with basic combat skills.
Even if Lucy hadn’t contacted him today, he’d find time to plug in the recording chip and call a few players to try filming a session or two at a Night Wanderer camp with low combat effectiveness.
And Lucy’s invitation really was an unexpected delight for him.
But filming isn’t enough; editing is required, sensory adjustments are needed, and lots of exciting shots must be cut down to an acceptable time frame, ideally 10-30 minutes.
Otherwise, a single Super Dream takes hours, who could bear that?
Moreover, the person has to be trustworthy; if you hand this to a stranger, they’ll soon know you were behind this.
He chose the person Lucy because she had mentioned she could handle this stuff, and they were partner-in-crime now.
After all, Lin Miao wasn’t some lustful fool who’d lose his head for a pretty girl like a salivating dog, competence is what’s important.
In the end, he got no reward, and the person fled.
Lin Miao even felt as if he were being teased for pleasure and exploited.
[Oh almighty system, could you possibly moonlight as a Super Dream editor?]
[Oh incompetent host, no matter how you plead, I can’t transform into a silver-haired naughty female hacker to fulfill your reproductive desires while also working for you, after all... you don’t pay me. If there were to be an employment relationship between us, I should be the boss paying a salary and assigning tasks. Have you ever heard of a boss working overtime upon employee requests?]
凸(艹皿艹)!
Just as Lin Miao was about to retort against the system, its sarcasm took another sharp turn.
[Editing requires creativity and inspiration, something I can’t handle, but I can enhance a pre-edited Super Dream by optimizing it, achieve semi-intelligent independent roles, restore scene information modeling precision, and realize free scene activities.]
Lin Miao pondered the system’s words, then asked:
[You mean... turn the film into... a linear game? Like the environmental Super Dream I saw at Lucy’s house?]
[That’s a fair interpretation, but there are still limitations. Areas outside your data collector’s range can’t be interfered with. Like a book, if you haven’t read it cover to cover, it’ll just be a cube-shaped book, and rooms you haven’t been to will always be inaccessible, and so on.]
[No problem, no problem, this is good enough for me. Even if you can’t become a silver-haired naughty female hacker, I’m satisfied.]
Such great news; the system can accomplish these things is wonderful enough. Who needs a bicycle anyway?
After ending the conversation with the system, he took out today’s biggest gain from his long bag and placed it on the table. The box didn’t have any password lock mechanism, but rather a magnetic latch.
When he opened the box, there were eight chips inside without any special markings, all looking the same.
He randomly picked one and inserted it into the Super Dream Ring. To prevent it from being a Black Mewtwo or some ’weird thing’, Lin Miao specifically activated the protective mode of his prosthetic eye.
Recalling Lucy’s operations, Lin Miao connected the Super Dream Ring’s cable to the back of his neck, adjusted the wearing position, and pressed the start button on the ring.
As a burst of intense light flashed before his eyes, his consciousness entered another world.
Spending four hours trying out each of the so-called military training chips in the box, all Lin Miao could say about today’s experience was...
Absolutely worth it!
If Lucy were here, he’d really want to lift her up and cheer, pop a few champagne bottles, and party all night!
The chip’s training content was basic but varied, simulating environments akin to Lucy’s, rather than individual experiential Super Dreams.
[Shooting] [Fighting] [Infiltration] [Blades] [Hacker] [Assault] [Reconnaissance] [Prosthetic Usage]
No wonder Huang Ban third-ranked mega-corporation provides these military training chips to frontline combat personnel; these things are clearly aimed at creating an army.
Lin Miao estimated that fully mastering the training content of these chips could elevate basic skills to Level 6, which was the level before Lin Miao improved his firearms expertise, considered amateur level.
