Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You
Chapter 326: I Made the Call
CHAPTER 326: CHAPTER 326: I MADE THE CALL
Will shook his head blankly: "I don’t know him."
Chloe Langley felt a bit deflated, but it was okay. She contacted other colleagues, arranging for them to come by later and sketch based on Will’s description.
She also brought photos of everyone for Will to identify one by one, to see if they could find the person.
They had to find him!
At the police station, Chloe Langley briefly explained the relevant details.
However, she cautiously didn’t mention that Will had already seen the person’s face.
Her colleague had just told her that even though Will was awake, his condition wasn’t good, so they needed some time, to take it slow.
"The current situation is, we need you to tell us more about Vera Hansen," Chloe Langley said.
Everyone in the room had different expressions.
Serena Sterling’s lips were tightly pressed, Silas Hawthorne worriedly held her hand, while Julian Lawson looked pale.
The most terrified, trembling person was the caregiver.
Previously, she wasn’t aware of these matters.
She only suspected that Vera Hansen might kill her, but she held onto a sliver of luck.
She thought that the recording she overheard only mentioned hitting Serena Sterling’s child, not killing Serena.
She also thought Vera Hansen wouldn’t dare to commit murder.
But now, there’s a living example right here.
Vera Hansen was truly mad!
Vera Hansen would really kill her!
As the caregiver trembled, Serena looked at her.
Looking at the terrified woman before her, her eyes reddened, Serena rasped, "I promised to give you the things, so can you bring them out now?"
This remark was like the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
The caregiver immediately stood up excitedly.
Her hands trembled as she took out the voice recorder from her pocket and handed it to Chloe Langley.
"What’s this?" Chloe Langley asked.
"I’m Vera Hansen’s caregiver, and these are recordings I’ve secretly made," the caregiver said, taking out her phone and playing a segment she had previously shared with Serena and others.
Chloe Langley didn’t expect to have such an unexpected gain.
"I’m just a caregiver," the caregiver quickly clarified, "I didn’t get involved in their affairs, the recordings are for self-preservation."
The caregiver’s voice trembled, and her words were quite credible, given that there’s a living example right here.
Will has just regained consciousness!
Chloe Langley immediately handed the voice recorder to a colleague.
The evidence kept piling up.
Now it was almost certain that Vera Hansen had a secret channel for hiring killers.
She could contact assassins, hire them for murder.
...
The caregiver went to make another statement, while everyone else proceeded with follow-up matters, and then they all left.
Julian Lawson stayed behind.
Jude Chaucer stood behind Julian Lawson, looking at Julian’s current demeanor.
He couldn’t bring himself to speak.
Vera Hansen carried lives on her conscience.
In addition to Serena Sterling’s unborn child’s life, there were other lives!
Jude Chaucer didn’t know how to comfort Julian Lawson.
"Is there anything else?" Chloe Langley asked, noticing Julian Lawson lingering.
"I want to know..." Julian Lawson’s voice was hoarse, "the specific details of Serena Sterling’s car accident."
Julian Lawson looked up, his eyes bloodshot. He said, "Can you let me see it?"
Chloe Langley furrowed her brows slightly. She had been following this case all along, so she was quite familiar with the matters involving Julian Lawson, Serena Sterling, and Vera Hansen, not to mention the recent high-profile brawl incident, which made her well aware of their entanglements.
Seeing Julian Lawson looking so pitiable, Chloe Langley let out a long sigh, and then she said, "Follow me."
Just like that, under Chloe Langley’s guidance, they arrived at a room.
"There’s not much else to see, just this. Take a look," Chloe Langley said, pulling up a surveillance footage.
It was footage from the parking lot back then.
As the footage played, Julian Lawson clearly saw Serena Sterling dodge quickly after realizing someone wanted to hit her. But the person didn’t give up, they backed up and struck again.
Serena Sterling immediately ran to her car, shut the door and tried to drive away.
The next moment, that car mercilessly rammed into Serena’s car.
The impact left a huge dent in the car door.
Even at that point, the attacker didn’t relent, backing up again, preparing to strike once more.
Only when Serena stomped on the gas and swiftly accelerated her car to escape did she manage to get away.
"Afterwards, the two cars raced along the road until Serena called the police, at which point we guarded the route, ultimately leading the car into the police station."
Chloe Langley watched Julian Lawson finish viewing, then displayed a picture.
"Here’s how her car looked when it reached the police station," she said.
Julian Lawson looked at the picture, seeing the battered appearance of the car door, his heart trembled.
Previously, when Bianca Lynch called him, he had seen the scrape on Serena’s forehead at the hospital and thought it was no big deal.
But now, seeing this surveillance video, he realized...
Time and again.
The other party genuinely wanted Serena’s life!
If it weren’t for Serena’s vigilance and decisiveness, jumping into the flower bed the first time, quickly starting her car to flee the second time, she might have already been dead.
Julian Lawson’s hand trembled continuously, his pale lips quivered, emotions in turmoil.
Chloe Langley pondered for a moment, then added, "I really shouldn’t say much regarding your personal matters."
"But I was the first to respond and meet Serena on that day, so I’m quite aware of the situation then."
Chloe Langley continued, "After barely opening the car door, she passed out, her face covered in blood—utterly terrifying."
Julian Lawson abruptly raised his head.
"But later she still called me," Julian Lawson said.
Chloe Langley’s eyes changed, a complex emotion flickering within them.
She opened her mouth, seemingly hesitant.
Finally, she let out a long sigh and said, "That call was from me."
Julian Lawson’s lips parted slightly, his whole face was a picture of stunned disbelief.
He seemed unable to believe that’s how it was.
"I took her phone and called you," Chloe Langley said, her expression complicated. "I called so many times, but you kept hanging up."
"I don’t know what you were doing back then."
Maybe because she shared similarities with Serena as a woman, Chloe Langley spoke more.
"I don’t understand why you didn’t answer the phone; it was a life-and-death situation, she needed her family by her side."
"At that time, you hadn’t processed your divorce papers yet, so you were still legally husband and wife."
Julian Lawson looked ashen, his lips trembling: "I didn’t know... I thought she wanted... to hold me accountable."
Chloe Langley furrowed her brows slightly, looking at Julian Lawson in puzzlement.
"She had already fainted; how could she hold you accountable?"
Chloe Langley paused for a moment, then said helplessly, "Even if you didn’t know the situation, with so many calls, it definitely meant something urgent."
Julian Lawson opened his mouth but couldn’t refute it, the excuses and reasons seeming weak and powerless now.
Indeed.
With so many calls...
Julian Lawson, didn’t you claim you loved her deeply?
