Playtime's Over, CEO: She's Really Done With You
Chapter 333: Julian Lawson Learns Who the Killer Is
CHAPTER 333: CHAPTER 333: JULIAN LAWSON LEARNS WHO THE KILLER IS
Watching Julian Lawson’s unchanged expression of hatred, Vera Hansen used retreat as a strategy to advance.
She said, "Brother Julian, you know, I’m actually grateful I went to that meeting in her place that day."
"Because it was precisely that meeting that made you feel guilty toward me, allowing me to have you for a short while."
She didn’t believe it. Her so-called "profound" "love," her love so humble it was in the dust, willing to sacrifice everything for him—wouldn’t Julian Lawson be moved!
"Brother Julian, I became like this step by step for you," Vera said as she held Julian’s hand, "so you can forgive me, right?"
But Julian’s expression was complex.
It was an indescribable expression.
He opened his mouth.
About half a minute passed.
"Just because of this?" he asked with a bitter smile.
"Yes." Vera nodded vigorously, her eyes full of "affection."
Julian chuckled lowly, his grip on the armrest so tight that the veins stood out.
His laughter was mocking, insane.
After laughing for about half a minute, he derided, "Vera, it was Serena who complimented your aesthetics, not me."
"It was also Serena who didn’t hold you accountable for your mistakes, not me."
Julian said, "That day, Serena and I were busy with work at the company, working through the night, and just as we were about to sleep, you broke a vase outside. I was startled and a bit irritable. It was Serena who told me that you came early to the company and cared about company affairs. She also said that the office flower arrangements had improved considerably during that time and that you were very responsible."
Vera was filled with questions, Serena?
But it didn’t matter who it was, as it was a lie she had concocted anyway.
"That doesn’t matter," Vera said anxiously. "What matters is, Brother Julian, I love you."
"What matters is that I went to the meeting for her."
"What matters is that, Brother Julian, you should be with me right now!"
Julian looked at Vera, who was directing and acting out her script but horribly aware of her misplaced intentions, with scorn.
He had never truly confronted the contradictions in Vera’s lies before now.
If Vera really fell in love with him because of that so-called appreciation, when he mentioned it was actually Serena, Vera shouldn’t have reacted this way.
She should have been full of regret, at the very least, shocked and unfocused, asking a couple of questions about Serena.
But Vera did none of that, she only anxiously repeated that she went to the meeting for Serena, desperate to clear her name.
Never before had Julian seen so clearly that Vera didn’t love him.
Vera was just using "love" as a tool to extract, seeking forgiveness from him!
"Brother Julian..."
"Get out!"
Julian pushed Vera away in utter disgust.
As Vera continued to weep, Julian was haunted by the image of Serena.
"You claimed to have only six months left due to stomach cancer."
"You were the one threatening suicide!"
"You constantly professed kindness and denied any harm toward Serena."
"But behind the scenes, it was you who hired someone, used others to push Serena down the stairs, and repeatedly slandered and attacked her both openly and covertly!"
"And now you still want to rely on lies to gain my forgiveness?"
Julian’s chest heaved with rage.
His eyes blazed with anger as he fixed them on Vera, still sobbing.
"Vera, tell me, what exactly is true!"
Julian shouted hoarsely, "Vera, what else are you hiding from me!"
Vera was genuinely panicked; she did have something she was hiding from Julian.
But she dared not speak.
She cautiously observed Julian, seeing the madness etched across his face.
If Julian knew the truth, he wouldn’t be asking like this.
So, he didn’t know.
"Speak!" Julian roared.
"There’s nothing more, truly, Brother Julian," Vera wept, "I really have nothing else to hide from you!"
"Brother Julian, I beg you."
Vera continued to speak.
Julian’s eyes were bloody red; if not for that incident in the past, he would have disposed of Vera long ago!
Vera struggled, "Even if you blame me, even if you think I’m a malicious woman, please, on account of me going to that meeting for Serena, for the punishment I took on her behalf..."
"Knock Knock Knock!"
Amidst Vera’s words, the basement door was suddenly knocked on.
Apparently feeling it was insufficient, the person outside started pounding on the door.
"Bang Bang Bang!"
Vera paused her crying, and both looked toward the door simultaneously.
Julian ignored Vera, turned, opened the door, and stepped out of the basement.
Standing in the hallway was Jude Chaucer, drenched in sweat.
"What happened?" Julian’s anger had not yet subsided.
Jude handed the documents in his hand to Julian first.
Then, Jude opened his mouth, "President Lawson, there’s something you need to know now."
Julian flipped through the documents in his hands, which detailed all of Preston Langley’s various activities in the company over the past few years, including some projects.
"What are these for?" Julian asked, "Have you found Preston Langley?"
"No." Jude immediately shook his head.
"It’s like this." Jude pondered for a moment, then said, "Officer Langley just called me."
Julian frowned slightly, lifting his gaze to look at Jude.
Under the dim light, Jude’s face appeared extraordinarily grim.
Julian abruptly had a sense of foreboding, as if something terrible was about to emerge.
"Officer Langley just told me," Jude began, "that the person Will described in the sketch, the one who drove the car to hit him that day, was Preston Langley."
It seemed as if something was exploding.
The entire corridor felt like it had been blown apart.
Just a door away, Vera was still crying miserably.
But it was as if Julian couldn’t hear any of it.
At that moment, his mind seemed to have stopped functioning.
If it was Preston Langley...
It meant Preston Langley and Vera had known each other for some time.
The person who had been calling Vera was Preston Langley.
Then.
Everything from before...
Julian’s mind once again conjured the scene from a year ago.
He had rushed to the location, thinking that Serena was the one attending the meeting.
The scene was a complete mess.
Clothes were scattered all over.
He kept moving forward.
There was a room nearby with voices of men talking inside.
And further inside, there were two people, accompanied by a woman’s sobs.
At that moment, it seemed as though his heart shattered.
He rushed in, kicking the man away and reaching out to help the woman.
He thought it was Serena.
His hand trembled continuously.
Then he realized it was Vera.
In that instant, a complex mix of emotions overwhelmed him.
Perhaps a sense of relief, mixed with something else.
[At least it was Vera.]
That was his first thought at that moment.
It was also this thought that made him feel incredibly guilty toward Vera each time.
It was also why he repeatedly softened toward her.
But now they were telling him, Preston Langley had known Vera for a while.
Preston Langley even ran over Serena for Vera!
Then...
