CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 68: STAY AT THE OLD MANSION TONIGHT, UNDERSTOOD?

Serena held back the sadness in her heart.

Many things had happened over the past seven years.

She could pick herself up and let go.

They had truly loved each other once, and she didn’t regret her past actions. But now that she no longer loved him, she wouldn’t give him anything anymore.

Whether it was her time, her body, or her heart.

Not wanting to say more, Serena lifted her foot and headed towards the villa.

But Julian Lawson grabbed her hand.

"Serena." He called her name once more.

"I told you, no one can replace your position." Julian said, "Vera only has six months left. After that, we can be fine again."

"You don’t need to make a fuss. In six months, everything will return to its original place."

His voice came from behind.

Serena felt like laughing when she heard it.

Her attitude was already so obvious, yet he still thought she was being unreasonable?

Why should she be unreasonable?

For him, or for the position of Mrs. Lawson?

She was never Mrs. Lawson; she was Miss Sterling, Serena.

In the past, she stayed by his side simply because of love.

And now, she returned to being Serena, also because of love.

Back then, she loved Julian Lawson, but now she loves herself.

She had already given him a chance.

Time after time, she sought confirmation, but from his mouth, she only received answers that saddened her.

She had been heartbroken far too many times in her life and didn’t want to be heartbroken anymore.

The young man who once protected her with a piece of wood in front of her might have died that rainy night.

Now, all she saw was a Julian Lawson whose heart only had Vera.

She didn’t want this completely changed Julian Lawson.

"Let go!" She said.

But his large hand holding her wrist didn’t release.

"Serena." Julian’s voice came from behind, "What exactly do you want?"

She wanted to retrieve her father’s old possessions, wanted to uncover the truth about her father’s death back then, wanted her career to soar, wanted those truly worth loving around her to do well, wanted to shake him off and live well!

These words nearly slipped out.

But in the end, she held back.

They were still in the cooling-off period; she wanted to divorce smoothly, and couldn’t say much else for the time being.

Therefore, of all the things she could say, she only uttered one sentence: "Julian Lawson, my affairs have nothing to do with you."

Her words thoroughly enraged him.

The night wind blew through, bringing with it the unfamiliar scent of her perfume.

Just like she appeared now, a little unfamiliar to him.

"Nothing to do with me?" He chewed on her words, "Serena, you’re still my wife right now. Do you think this can have nothing to do with me?"

Serena sneered: "Oh, you still remember I’m your wife."

"Let go!" Serena said, trying to forcibly wrench free from Julian’s grasp.

Their argument grew louder and louder.

In the end, it was an elderly voice that stopped them.

"Enough!"

Caleb Lawson, who had been waiting inside the villa for them, got pushed out.

His expression was very displeased.

"Julian, what are you doing!" Caleb Lawson scolded.

Julian’s lips were tightly pursed, his cold eyes stubbornly locked onto Serena.

"Julian Lawson!" Caleb’s scolding voice rang out again.

Only then did Julian withdraw his gaze, lowering his eyes slightly.

"Grandfather." He called out, yet still refused to let go of Serena’s hand.

Caleb Lawson glared fiercely at Julian.

Meanwhile, the old lady had already walked up, holding Serena’s hand, tenderly saying, "Good child, you’ve lost so much weight."

"It’s this bastard’s fault!" Caleb Lawson raised his cane, ready to strike Julian.

Julian didn’t dodge, just stood there straight.

A light breeze blew from the lake, slightly chilly.

Serena instinctively shivered.

Julian frowned slightly and looked at her again.

Was she afraid of the cold?

He didn’t know why, but he felt a strange sensation inside.

As if something had happened that he wasn’t aware of.

"I could hear you arguing from afar!" Caleb Lawson angrily swung his cane towards Julian.

"Julian Lawson, the amount of reckless things you’ve done these days, how can you still have the face to argue with Serena here!"

"I really don’t know how I have such a grandson as you!"

"If your parents weren’t abroad and I wasn’t in bad health, just see how we’d deal with you!"

Caleb Lawson was panting from the thrashing; he was in poor health and needed Serena and Julian to marry for good fortune a year ago. Now, he looked even worse.

"Always running after a mistress, you’ve lost all the Lawson Family’s face!"

"Do you even recall a word of the vows you made when you brought Serena back and knelt before me?"

"Doing these things now, do you really have no guilt at all?"

"Cough, cough..."

Caleb started coughing badly at the end.

"Grandfather!"

Both Julian and Serena hurriedly approached, but Caleb pushed Julian away at once.

Serena reached out to help the elderly man breathe more easily.

She could still sense who was good to her.

She didn’t want to deal with Julian anymore, but she didn’t want anything to happen to the old man either.

"Cough, cough, cough..." Caleb was still coughing.

Julian quickly called the family doctor.

They went inside the villa; the family doctor rushed in and stabilized Caleb.

Finally, he advised: "Although the elder’s condition has improved a lot this past year, minor disputes won’t pose any danger, but try not to anger him excessively."

Once everyone settled Caleb back in his room, the old lady led them outside.

Her expression was also displeased.

"Julian, can’t you just cut ties with Vera?"

Julian bowed his head in silence.

The old lady showed a look of disappointment.

"Forget it, you’ve grown up." She said, "Now the entire Lawson Corporation is in your hands. Everyone says that you, Julian Lawson, single-handedly led The Lawson Corporation to outshine the Ford Group and Hawthorne Group, showing remarkable ability."

"We, the old couple, of course, can’t control you."

"But before you do many things, can you think more about Serena?"

"Serena is your wife, you once swore you loved her. You’re the one who said you wanted to marry her."

"Don’t you know how unpleasant the rumors outside are now? Can’t you consider Serena?"

Julian still kept his head down, his lips tightly pursed.

The old lady, seeing him not responding, was even more disappointed. In the end, she left a remark: "I was planning to go to the restaurant with you, but now you can go by yourselves."

She squeezed Serena’s hand, looking at Julian with an expression of frustrated hope.

But Caleb had scolded and beaten him, and right now there was really no other way.

"Don’t leave the estate yet; your grandfather needs to talk to you later."

After pausing a bit, she stared pointedly at Julian and said, "Stay overnight at the old residence tonight, understood!"
