Pokemon: A Gym Leader's Rise(SI)
Chapter 169 - 168: The Eon Pokemon
In the dimly lit private quarters of Moonwood Gym, Ben Vortex stood frozen, his eyes wide as saucers, staring at the two Pokémon that had just emerged from the Poké Balls on Gladion's necklace.
The compress he'd been holding for his son's fever slipped from his hand, landing with a soft thud on the floor.
Gladion lay unconscious on the bed, his face pale, sweat-soaked, but Ben's attention was locked on the two figures hovering protectively at his son's side.
Latios and Latias, the Eon Pokémon, were in the room with him and were currently looking at him curiously .
'Legendary Pokémon,' Ben thought, his heart pounding. 'My kid's got not one, but two?'
Ben had always known about Colossus, Gladion's Alpha Tyranitar, a pseudo-legendary beast that roared with unmatched power.
It was one of the three Poké Balls on Gladion's necklace. But the other two?
'He never told me,' Ben thought, his mind reeling. 'I always thought that it would be his Metagross and his Machamp. Silly boy, keeping secrets like this!' He shook his head, a grin breaking through his shock. 'Erza is in Hoenn, but she'd lose her mind with pride right now. My boy's a legendary trainer!'
Latias's telepathic voice, warm and friendly, cut through his thoughts. "You must be little Gladion's father. He talks about you sometimes. We've seen you care for him from inside our Poké Balls. You're a good father." Ben blinked, his jaw dropping.
"You are... talking..to me...uh...your grace legendary Latias?" he stammered, then caught himself. "I mean, of course you do. You're Latias! But… how did Gladion meet you? How'd he convince you to join him?"
Ben did not know how to address a legendary Pokemon. He has heard tales of Legendaries from his father. He had read history records of the Infinite Pokemon Wars.
The Legendaries were the one that not only stopped the war but were responsible for most of the casualities. Millions of both Pokemon and humans have died under the ire of many Legendaries across regions.
He knew that Legendaries don't just sign up with a kid, even one as talented as Gladion.
Latias giggled telepathically, her red wings fluttering. "We met him in Alto Mare, in Johto. He came looking for us, like he knew we were there. We followed him secretly at first—sensed something special in him."
Her tone turned playful. "He'd search for us, and we'd zip away, giving him just a glimpse. It was hilarious!" Ben chuckled, imagining Gladion chasing shadows.
'That's my boy, stubborn as his grandpa,' "He kept at it for days," Latias continued. "We watched him with his Pokémon—Colossus, Zeus, Arsenal, Guy, Mystique, Hydros Nyx. They were so close, always laughing, training, having fun. Our life was… boring. So we kept following. When he finally caught us, he asked us to join his team, and we said yes."
Ben's brow furrowed, confusion mixing with awe. "Why, though? You're legendaries—Also Dragon-types, full of pride. Why join a kid?" Latios, the blue Eon Pokémon, spoke up, his telepathic voice warm but firm.
"We may be dragons, but we take care of our own. And our little brother Gladion is the youngest. Protecting him is our job as his big brother and sister."
Ben's eyes widened further. "Little brother? What's that mean?"
'Are they joking? Glady's human!' Latias's tone was gentle but evasive. "Don't mind it, little Gladion's father. Let's heal him now, shall we?"
"You can help him?" Ben asked, his voice breaking with hope. The Eon duo didn't answer, their eyes glowing with psychic energy that made the air hum. Ben's Alakazam and Gladion's Ultron, hovering nearby, trembled, their auras dwarfed by the legendaries' power.
Alakazam's telepathic voice was awed. "You're lucky they're friendly, Ben. I don't think even Lady Erza's full team could stop one of them." Ben swallowed hard, his heart swelling.
'My son's got dragons watching his back. Well, Legendary Dragons.Unreal. If the Blackthorn clan knew about it, they would develop deep enmity with Glady and our family. Well, I don't think he would need any help facing them. Now not only he has Collosus but two other Pokemon equal in power of not greater.'
The psychic energy from Latios and Latias enveloped Gladion, a soft blue-and-red glow pulsing over his body. Ben held his breath, watching as the feverish flush on Gladion's face began to fade.
Suddenly, Gladion gasped, his eyes snapping open, wide with shock as he took in the room—Ben, Alakazam, Ultron, and the Eon duo.
He sat up, wincing, his psychic aura flickering weakly. "Huh," he said, his voice hoarse but nonchalant. "Dad, looks like you met my big brother and sister."
Ben's jaw dropped again, his voice rising. "Big brother and sister? That's what you've got to say? You've got two legendaries, Glady!"
Gladion smirked, leaning back against the headboard. "They insisted I call them that. Part of the deal for joining my team."
'Not like I had a choice—they're stubborn as hell.'
Ben threw his hands up, laughing. "You're insane, kid! Two legendaries, and you're acting like it's just another Tuesday!"
Gladion shrugged, his smirk widening. "They're family now. Gotta keep up."
Before Ben could press further, the door burst open, and Milo, Lila, and Gwen stormed in, their voices overlapping. "Big brother!" Milo shouted, his eyes sparkling. "Big brother!" Lila echoed, clutching a plush Jigglypuff.
Gwen, her blonde hair a mess, glared at Gladion, her aura blazing with worry and irritation. "Glady!" she snapped, then froze, her eyes locking onto Latios and Latias.
"Woah," Milo gasped, staring at the Eon Pokémon. "They're so cool! What are they?" Lila nodded, hugging her plush tighter. "They're pretty!"
Gwen's eyes darkened, her voice low. "My dear brother, care to explain why there are two legendary Pokémon in your room?"
Gladion's smirk faltered.
