Pokemon - A real story
Chapter 906: Compensasation
CHAPTER 906: COMPENSASATION
Heracross opened its tired eyes, which were covered with blood, but it didn’t see what it expected to see. Instead of a lush green forest, the ground was engulfed in flames. The temperature had not decreased. It moved its head to see up and saw Charizard with another Alakazam.
Even his brother, Alakazam, didn’t know what was happening. Why were they in the same place on the ground after teleporting? But Charizard knew what had happened. It smiled and said to Alakazam.
"I didn’t know that you can even block teleportation. Since when are you able to do such things?"
"It has been some time. The concerning thing is that you were able to let these three king rank Pokemon run away. If I had not come here, they would have succeeded. Why didn’t you finish this battle as soon as it started?"
"Oh, come on. It was just a little slip-up. Besides, I need to save my energy for the night raid."
Alakazam didn’t want to create a scene here, but it made a point to talk to Charizard after this day was over.
"Let’s deal with these three Pokemon, and then we will talk."
Both Charizard and Alakazam came down to deal with Heracross, Lapras, and Alakazam.
"Say goodbye to this beautiful world.", said Alakazam as its eyes turned purple.
Then, something amazing happened. All three of them knelt with their heads on the ground. Alakazam and Charizard were surprised to see this reaction.
Alakazam was the one who spoke, "We surrender. Please don’t kill us. If you want, we can work for you too."
Light, the Alakazam asked, "So, you are ready to betray your current teammates to save your life?"
Alakazam was going to respond, but it was swiftly hit on the back of its head by Heracross. Heracross understood that the conversation was already going downhill, and it must have saved themselves.
"No, that is not what we are saying. Actually, we three are siblings. Not by blood, but we have grown up together. We don’t have any connection with other Pokemon in this tide battle. We only agreed to participate because we were promised some rare berries and resources by Tauros, the one whom you and your friend killed.
So, if you’d like, we can work with you. We don’t want to die in a battle where we only fought for resources, so we are ready to surrender."
"Hmm, so are you ready to give us some intel on your previous team?", asked Alakazam.
"Yes, we are, but we don’t want to participate in this tide battle anymore.", said Heracross.
"And why should we trust you? Maybe you will give us information and set us a trap, or maybe you will harm or kill our friends behind our backs. So, how can we trust you?"
"I don’t know how to make you believe that we mean no harm. We are ready to do anything, but we don’t want to be separated. That is all I ask."
"Hmm..."
Alakazam observed the aura and heartbeat of Heracross, and it could tell that it was not lying. But it cannot make such a decision on instinct.
"Ok, I cannot make the final decision. So, I will lead you to a place where you will be monitored. My trainer will decide what to do with you."
Alakazam communicated this to Axel.
"Oh, this is an interesting case. Take them into the monitoring zone and tell the soldiers to monitor them for now. I will talk to them tomorrow."
The monitoring zone was something that Axel came up with. If any members had not followed orders or any Pokemon that had been captured, they would be monitored in the monitoring zone. The zone was located next to the hospital, allowing nurses to monitor the patients.
After dealing with those two tier-2 king-rank Pokemon and the tier-2 king-rank Tauros, the pressure of the team had massively decreased. By this time, Axel’s other Pokemon and the commander’s Pokemon had also dealt with some king-rank Pokemon, and now only a couple of them were left.
"Venusaur, Meg, and Charizard, deal with the rest of them.", commanded Axel.
The team of these three Pokemon was made to swiftly deal with king-rank Pokemon. Venusaur was a control-type Pokemon with extremely good healing powers. Nidoking was very good in special attack, poison moves, and it can also deal significant damage, and finally, Charizard was all about physical attack. It also dealt with flying-type Pokemon. Two of them were in pseudo-champion rank, and one of them was a tier-2 king-rank Pokemon.
All of them dealt with the remaining king-rank Pokemon swiftly. The herd of Tauros had also been handled. Axel was finally able to take a breath of relief. The situation had changed instantly, and if Axel didn’t have a four pseudo-champion rank and other king rank Pokemon to handle the problem, then the battle would have lasted longer, and many people might have died.
After a couple of hours, the number of wild Pokemon had become reasonable.
"Sir, the battle will end after a few hours.", reported Ashmita.
"Good. Do you have the report of casualties?", asked Axel.
Axel knew that some of them had died in today’s battle. The sudden charge of these Tauros was very unpredictable. At that time, the night team was just changing shifts with the day team. They were not prepared for any attack.
"Sir, I don’t have the full details. After the battle is over, we will finalize the count."
"Ok, do it as soon as possible."
###
"54 DEATHS!!! How is that possible?", shouted Axel.
Among the 120k members, 54 deaths represented, 0.045% of the total members, it was still a lot.
"Sir, we were not ready. The sudden charge of those Tauros... sigh. You know the rest."
This was the first time that Fairy Tail members had lost their lives, including when they were an unofficial mercenary team.
Axel had called an emergency meeting to address this issue.
"Give me the list of those members. I will personally visit each of them. Set out 2 billion Poke dollars for those who had died in the tide battle. After the tide is over, I will personally visit their family members and decide on their compensation."
"Sir, you don’t have to do that. The captains responsible for them will do the job.", said Hector.
"No, we are not going to be the successive Pokemon league and act as if people’s life wouldn’t matter to us. They were our valuable members. Even though I may not know any of them personally, all 54 members trusted you and me with their lives.
I cannot take that for granted."
"But sir, 2 billion Poke dollars is a lot. I don’t think that we can handle such an expense if we continue this in the future too.", said Dory.
She and Ashmita were the team’s financial consultants. Since Axel was busy reviewing the figures, they took on this responsibility.
Dory and Ashmita pointed out numerous figures and facts.
"Sir, most of our money is being spent on investments. Like, we contributed 10 billion Poke dollars to daycare. That’s a significant amount of money for a startup like ours.
A certain amount of money is being spent on the maintenance of our headquarters, staff meals, and other miscellaneous expenses. Our total fixed cost per month is approximately $600 million, and this does not include training ground expenses, as the royal family handles their maintenance.
We have received 1 trillion Poke dollars as a monetary contribution from the royal family, and our income is minimal.", said Dory.
Axel knew about this. The only source of regular income they had was the commission from members when they took a mission from the ’League association’, which was 20%.
20% was actually a lot because the league also took 10% of the fee as their service charge. Axel wanted to sponsor and link the mission from their team instead of from the League Association, but there were many hurdles to accomplish it.
One might say that 20% of 120k members doing missions all the time would be a significant income. But such was not the case.
First of all, 120k members would not be doing missions all the time. They would take rest, train their Pokemon, and then do some missions when they needed some money. Secondly, each member would not take a mission separately. A group of 3-5 members will take the mission together. This was a rule made by Axel. He didn’t want his members to die during these missions.
Even with all those restrictions, Fairy Tail was making around 2.4 billion Poke dollars per month. That was a significant amount for sure. But most of the amount was being used for multiple things.
Like the traps that they were using on this tide, all of these came from those savings. Free medical checkups for Pokemon were being done with those savings. The royal family created infrastructure for hospitals and also paid for all the medical expenses, but Fairy Tale had to pay for the salaries of doctors and nurses.
Axel was also stockpiling a wide range of resources, including vitamins, berries, Pokeblocks, evolution stones, type-enhancing items, and many others. They would be exchanged for the new currency that he had developed, and he would receive money for it. However, the cost of these resources was heavily discounted, and he was selling them to the members at cost price.
So, Fairy Tail was not saving much from those 2.4 billion Poke dollars.
"Hmm, I get it. Then reduce the amount to 1 billion Poke dollars. That is non-negotiable. Additionally, establish a pension fund that will provide the family of deceased members with 100,000 per month.
I want our members not to worry about finance when they are in the field protecting the world."
"Sir, I am sorry, but I cannot agree to it.", said Dory.
"Is there a valid reason for it?"
"Sir, a normal member of Fairy Tail earns around 80k per month from all the missions that they do. Giving a pension of 100k to the family of dead members doesn’t make sense in any way.", said Dory.
"Then decrease the amount from 100k to 50k.", said Axel.
Dory tried to persuade Axel, saying, "Sir, why are we doing all this? No organization in the world gives 50k per month to the family of dead members."
"If we are the only ones doing it, then it doesn’t mean that we are wrong. Listen, all of you. You might still be thinking that the world has not changed, but it has. The number of tidal battles is increasing and will continue to do so in the future. Right now, a normal mercenary team only participates in a three-tide battle once a year. However, that number is expected to change to 6-7 tide battles within a couple of years, and it may even reach a point where we will only have tide battles all year round.
The future will be very deadly. Just imagine your friends dying left and right. Would you even want to continue and battle for humanity when you are not even 10% sure that you will return alive?
The answer is simple. You will not participate. And what will happen after that? Pandemonium. Carnage. And the destruction of the world.
But if we pay good enough money to the families of the dead, at least the members will believe that their family will be taken care of when they die. So, they will fight with even more vigor."
"Sir, all of these things that you mentioned might happen in the future. So, why are we giving the money now? Can’t we do it in the future?", asked Dory with a hint of frustration.
Dory excelled in this job. Finance was something that must be controlled from an early stage. Yet, Axel, being the leader, must see from a broader perspective.
"We are doing this from now on because we want to gather capable members in the future. Don’t think that our strength will only be 120k members in the future, too. We might reach 1 million members in the future, too. So, if we start to provide these benefits, we will be attracting a lot of capable future members."
