As time passed, the Normal-type event continued.
The panel of judges scanned through the list of contestants, and upon seeing a particular name, they all smiled knowingly.
It was a Top Coordinator. Although some Top Coordinators had not performed well earlier, this one was different.
"It’s Terrance’s turn."
A young man wearing glasses put down the contestant list and looked toward the figure slowly walking towards the ocean stage through the passageway, speaking calmly.
His short, dark-brown hair with a hint of gold fluttered casually in the sea breeze. His expression was calm, showing almost no signs of nervousness despite his imminent performance.
"Good mental composure," several judges nodded as they saw Terrance.
"This stage is way too rudimentary," Terrance sighed as he walked down the corridor. The stage was likely assembled temporarily. The stage on Sootopolis City’s plaza was occupied with other events. Although this location was fairly close to Sootopolis City, there was almost no space here for spectators.
"It would be better if this stage had been set up farther from Sootopolis City," Terrance thought as his right hand gently touched Castform’s Poké Ball. By now, he had already stepped onto the stage.
Terrance glanced briefly toward the panel of judges and the direction of the camera equipment. Fortunately, their positions were very safe, almost completely insulated from external environmental factors. Otherwise, Terrance would have needed to warn them in advance.
"Go, Castform."
After receiving the go-ahead from the panel of judges, Terrance threw the Poké Ball. A gray silhouette floated into the air, eyes brimming with fighting spirit as it sized up its surroundings.
"Castform, huh..." Upon seeing this Pokémon, the judges recalled past events. As a Top Coordinator, Terrance’s competition history had been documented in detail. Among them, Castform’s performance of the Double Rainbow and Multi Double Team was one of the high-level performances whose recordings were treasured by the Pokémon Contest community.
So, to many people, this Castform was not unfamiliar.
"Let’s see what kind of performance this Castform can deliver. Could it possibly... score above 85?" Several judges had high expectations for Terrance, a Coordinator who had already won two events. If Top Coordinators had tiers, then Terrance was undoubtedly at the very top.
Gazing up at the calm blue sky, Terrance took a deep breath and said:
"Let’s begin."
The next moment,
A thunderous boom echoed in all directions. The judges, cameramen, and others instinctively covered their ears, startled as they looked toward the sky.
But that wasn’t all, the thunderclap reached all the way to Sootopolis City. The sound, like lightning out of a clear blue sky, drew the attention of many.
"That direction... is that the Normal-type event stage?"
In Sootopolis City, some people were watching the performance on a live broadcast screen. Pointing at the screen, they quickly turned their heads in shock to look toward the sky in that direction. In an incredibly short amount of time, the situation had changed drastically as layer upon layer of dark clouds rapidly covered the sky over that stretch of sea, looking terrifying beyond words.
"Is a Rainstorm coming?" Many people, unaware of the exact situation, looked at what was happening and asked in bewilderment.
Rainstorm! Under normal circumstances, it was almost unheard of in Sootopolis City unless there was a special reason.
However, the deafening thunder and the dark clouds that had somehow, in mere moments, occupied half of the sea area made many people sense that the weather was shifting in an extremely dangerous direction.
Drip, drip, drip...
As for those who were able to witness this performance firsthand, they now stared blankly at the bean-sized raindrops pouring down with loud crackling sounds.
The many judges looked toward the Castform, whose form had already transformed completely into its Rainy mode, and said, "Rain Dance, Thunder?"
But before they had time to react, if what came earlier could still be called a torrential downpour, then what followed now was truly a rainstorm!!
Whoooosh whoooosh whoooosh~~
The howling of the fierce winds instantly spread everywhere. Only those present could most vividly feel that all these changes happened in the space of a single breath!
In the time of a single inhale and exhale, thunder roared, black clouds gathered, torrential rain poured down, and fierce winds rose.
At this moment, the ocean stage was affected by the changes. Darkness blanketed everything, and countless lightning serpents danced within the clouds, looking like world-ending divine punishment ready to strike at any moment. Accompanied by deafening thunder and eerie howling winds, the rain was blasted in all directions. Yet even this wasn’t the full extent of Hurricane move’s power...
As the Hurricane erupted alongside Rain Dance, the sea surged with violent waves; terrifying tempests, overwhelming darkness, despairing transformation. Towering waves rose and crashed down with force, sending shockwaves rippling outward. In the depths of the sea, countless Water-type Pokémon felt fear and scrambled to flee. Witnessing the changes on the ocean’s surface left a shadow in their hearts.
"Albus..."
Fujiki stood at the shore, watching the dramatic changes to the sky and sea in that direction, and quickly spoke. She had seen wave after wave crash together, almost forming a monstrous, towering tsunami.
If this continued to build for just a bit longer, it might explode and sweep out in all directions.
"Don’t worry," Albus said, watching the changes in the sea with an expression of awe.
"That little Castform... has created such a massive disturbance; its strength has undergone a complete transformation compared to half a year ago!"
As Albus reassured her, a Gyarados had already plunged into the sea, controlling the water currents to prevent them from rushing toward inhabited areas. Many people had been drawn to this part of the coast by the sudden upheaval. After all, this disturbance was a very rare large-scale Rainstorm. Whether it was seen as a disaster or something else, it had become the center of everyone’s attention.
"A Pokémon that harnesses the power of nature..." Feeling the changes happening around them, the panel of judges collectively swallowed hard. And it was no exaggeration to say, if this Castform could utilize the power of the ocean in battle, even the main Pokémon of an average Elite Four would find it difficult to deal with.
The changes in the surroundings said it all.
"What terrifying power," one of the judges said, their entire body tingling from the thunder, trembling as they looked up at the sky. Feeling the wind slamming against the glass, they finally turned their gaze toward Terrance on the stage.
Because Castform was present, this stage had actually become the least affected area. All the power that Castform had displayed had been absorbed by the ocean, spreading outward endlessly.
"Has the Rainstorm arrived?"
The commotion around the Normal-type event stage was growing louder and louder. A small number of people understood that it was Terrance and Castform putting on a performance, but even so, the sheer magnitude of the spectacle was staggering.
Was this... truly the power that a Pokémon could unleash?
Even if it had borrowed the power of nature, the scene created by Castform’s combo of moves was simply too impactful.
If previous performers could still be evaluated on power in a relatively straightforward way, then the practical value of Castform’s moves was now practically immeasurable.
Strategic value.
It could be said that Castform, through harnessing the power of nature, had elevated its strength to the level of possessing genuine strategic value!!
As for coordination, the perfect fusion of Thunder, Hurricane, and Rain Dance created a seamless, natural scene, almost like something out of the apocalypse. Even a real rainstorm would hardly compare.
One judge slapped the table and said, "Looks like the winner of the Normal-type event is already decided."
"Wait a second... that was only three moves," another judge quickly recalled. He had been stunned by the terrifying scene just moments ago, but now that he thought about it—Thunder, Hurricane, Rain Dance—that was only three moves.
"Look at Castform..."
At that moment, Terrance stood beside Castform—the source of the Rainstorm. And yet, under Castform’s protection and control, it was the calmest and safest place of all, completely untouched by the chaos. At some point, Castform had shifted from its Rainy Form to another form entirely.
Surrounded by layers of snow clouds, it had transformed into Snowy Form.
This change, as it appeared before the eyes of the panel of judges, they knew the fourth move had appeared.
Hail.
In an instant, all the violent wind and rain ceased. The surging sea, impacted by the hail now falling from the sky, was suddenly chilled by the plunging temperatures and froze over in a layer of ice.
The sea surface, which was just raging, became completely calm in just a moment due to the influence of the weather.
Albus’s Gyarados halted its movement, struggling to redirect the countless surging waves crashing toward them. Suddenly, it sensed the force of the currents gradually easing, only for an intense chill to gather in the next instant, causing Gyarados’s pupils to contract sharply.
"Is it over?"
Smiling as he spoke, Albus looked at the now-calm sea surface. As expected, just like Terrance had said, he only needed to help disperse the residual shockwaves during the performance. As for the final, raging sea surface, Terrance would naturally suppress it himself.
The powerful Rainstorm had appeared suddenly, and just as suddenly, it had vanished. And the source of all of it... pointed directly to the Normal-type event stage.
At this moment, who still cared about anything else? Everyone’s eyes, without exception, were now focused in this direction.
Terrance. Castform. Everything that had just happened was the result of their performance in the Normal-type event.
That scene, which had convinced so many that a real Rainstorm had arrived... turned out to be nothing more than a combo of a few moves.
Now, even though the Normal-type event stage was located in the sea area outside Sootopolis City, many people rushed over just to catch a glimpse of the sea surface after the Rainstorm.
But when they arrived, what they saw...
Was a sea that had already frozen over.
