Chapter 642: Ash’s Dream
CHAPTER 642: ASH’S DREAM
"Success!"
As the enhanced Thunderbolt erupted with immense power, Terrance heard Ash’s excited cheer.
It worked...
Although Terrance had mentally prepared himself, he still held onto some hope. Even though he wasn’t a pure theorist, Ash and Pikachu’s progress was just too outrageous.
"This is..."
Terrance’s eyes flickered. When he walked up to Ash and Pikachu, he suddenly noticed something unusual about Pikachu.
Pikachu’s current physical state clearly showed signs of having activated the move "Reversal." It was definitely not some ’burst’ he had speculated earlier.
But isn’t "Reversal" a move Pikachu can only learn through inheritance? It was clearly documented in Master Victor’s notes. This situation...
"Could it be that Ash’s Pikachu naturally possesses the talent to learn ’Reversal’?"
After all, the parentage of this Pikachu was unknown. As someone who participated in Professor Oak’s research work in Pallet Town, Ash wouldn’t just be given a Pikachu with potential far inferior to Charmander, Squirtle, or other Starter Pokémon as a mere formality. So...
With this possibility in mind, the look in Terrance’s eyes shifted. It seemed he had overthought things. There was no need for his guidance. Ash and Pikachu had already mastered the Inherited Move combo technique he had envisioned.
However, not just Ash and Pikachu, even outsiders always believed this was Pikachu unleashing Cosmo power. But this sudden display of much greater strength could very well be influenced by the move "Reversal."
Before undergoing targeted training for "Reversal," Pikachu only had passive, incomplete control over the move. It couldn’t fully control it.
But after two days of specialized training, Pikachu’s years of accumulated experience allowed it to master "Reversal" completely, turning a passive move into an active one.
"This really is..."
Looking at the trees and ground turned by lightning around them, Terrance stared at Ash and Pikachu. This power was already comparable to the Zap Cannon of Magnezone, the main Pokémon of Electric-type Elite Four Leo, whom he had battled before!
Of course, after executing that move, Pikachu had lost the ability to stand. It was practically the equivalent of using an Electric-type Explosion.
As expected, a respected Professor-level figure would rather give a common Pokémon like Pikachu to a rookie Trainer than follow the League’s procedure and offer one of the three selected Starter Pokémon. There was clearly deeper reasoning behind this.
"How was that, Terrance? Pikachu and I pulled it off!" Ash beamed with joy, seeing Pikachu unleash such incredible power in that state.
"Let’s get Pikachu to the Pokémon Center to recover first," Terrance took a deep breath and said.
These past two days, the training mainly focused on having Pikachu accumulate injuries and expend stamina, then repeat the cycle with recovery. At first, Ash and the others had been hesitant, but after Terrance laid out an absolutely reasonable stamina safety threshold for them, and with the added benefit of the Pokémon Center, the greatest support a Trainer could ask for, all the seeming unreasonableness turned into something perfectly logical.
In Terrance’s view, the Pokémon Center is the ultimate cheat code for grassroots Trainers. As long as a Trainer is registered with the League, they have the right to enjoy certain benefits at the Pokémon Center.
As long as these benefits are used reasonably, they can be treated as personal resources for conducting high-intensity training.
However, generally speaking, very few Trainers are this extreme.
Under Terrance’s guidance, Ash and Pikachu did exactly that.
In just two days, he and Pikachu nearly made it onto Nurse Joy’s blacklist. Ash was even suspected of being a cruel Trainer who abused his own Pokémon...
"Looks like I don’t need to adjust Pikachu’s diet after all... This Pikachu really does have the talent to master ’Reversal.’" Terrance said in surprise.
Well, Ash did become a Trainer through proper channels, so he should’ve received an excellent Starter Pokémon. This Pikachu’s talent definitely doesn’t fall short of any Starter raised by the League’s professional Breeders. Likewise, Professor Oak would never have given Ash a common Pikachu with no special traits just to brush him off. Given Professor Oak’s status, there’s absolutely no reason for him to do so.
With that in mind, Terrance now understood why Ash and Pikachu could unleash such tremendous power.
The training plan he devised had, in a way, accidentally triggered Pikachu’s hidden potential.
In the future, when Ash and Pikachu face desperate situations in battles, they won’t need to rely on "luck" or "coincidence" to fight back with a powerful counterattack.
Now that Pikachu had fully mastered the move "Reversal," combining it with the bond between Ash and Pikachu, this move would become Pikachu’s finishing move.
Even in dire straits, Pikachu could rely on its strong willpower to unleash remarkable combat power through that dazzling Thunderbolt paired with Reversal.
After Ash and Pikachu returned from the Pokémon Center, they gratefully thanked Terrance.
"Pikachu’s parents must’ve been extraordinary, to have passed down a move like ’Reversal,’" Terrance said with a smile.
"Anyway, thank you so much for helping me and Pikachu with the special training, Terrance," Ash said gratefully.
"Pika!"
Looking at Pikachu, Ash said, "Now that Pikachu has mastered this technique, I’m even more confident about challenging the Lumiose Conference. This time, we’re definitely going to win the Lumiose Conference!!"
"Then you’d better give it your all. In upcoming battles, let Pikachu fight as much as possible, get into tough spots, and become familiar with that feeling."
"The key is to make good use of the Pokémon Center," Terrance added with a smile.
As thanks for Terrance’s guidance, Ash and his group cooked him gourmet meals for two days. During that time, Terrance also took the chance to return to Anistar City to search again for Researcher Stuart. But as the three-day window hadn’t passed yet, Stuart, as expected, hadn’t returned.
Now that Ash and Pikachu had gradually mastered the true usage of "Reversal," Terrance no longer intended to keep them.
"If I get the chance, I’ll come watch the Lumiose Conference," Terrance said.
At parting, Terrance gave Ash a half-hearted reply at his invitation. Of course, if he could, he certainly wouldn’t mind meeting Trainers who had mastered Mega Evolution. But Terrance suspected the day he would return to his original timeline was drawing close.
After all, he didn’t belong to this timeline. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given Ash such rough and rushed guidance.
Terrance vaguely remembered that Ash had never officially won a Champion title. Now that he had helped Ash and Pikachu develop an active finishing move, he wondered if Ash’s path to becoming Champion might go a little smoother this time.
The next day.
Terrance recalled his six Pokémon and, together with Rotom Pokédex, headed once more to Anistar City, where he began waiting outside the laboratory of Researcher Stuart.
