Chapter 674: Fumiko and Paul
CHAPTER 674: FUMIKO AND PAUL
It had been three days since Terrance’s call with Faba.
Staying in Fallarbor Town, Terrance suddenly found himself living at a leisurely pace.
Supervising the Pokémon’s training was no longer Terrance’s main task; he had entrusted that entirely to the Rotom Pokédex and would simply review their training progress later through the records it kept.
So, what had Terrance been doing these past three days? He was continuing his studies in genetics knowledge, while also digesting the knowledge from four years in the future about the Fairy-type system.
“Besides Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, and… Sylveon also has the Ability ‘Pixilate.’”
“To evolve Eevee into Sylveon, the condition is for Eevee to learn a Fairy-type move while still in its Eevee stage.”
“That’s rather unexpected…”
Suddenly, Terrance opened the window and looked out at the sky.
Groups of Beautifly fluttered through the air, led by Little Beautifly as they carried out their daily training.
Although he had heard that the guardian deity project was already in its initial completion phase, Terrance still had yet to see what a real guardian deity looked like.
How different would his envisioned “Butterfly Swarm Form” be from Alola Wishiwashi’s “School Form”?
Such a comparison would probably have to wait until the Beautifly in Fallarbor Woods could achieve even greater coordination.
After the Beautifly flew past, Terrance stroked his chin.
Where was he just now in his thoughts?
Sylveon… Eevee’s evolution toward the Fairy type.
As an evolving Pokémon, Eevee currently had only three officially revealed evolution forms.
However, people at a certain level were well aware that Eevee had more evolution paths.
But for certain reasons, these evolution directions had not yet been made public; perhaps for profit, perhaps to protect the Eevee species. Who could say?
After all, monopolizing knowledge and information is how hierarchies remain stable.
Terrance himself had kept Beautifly’s training method secret from the second mode of his Gym challenge.
Fallarbor Gym challenge modes: choose one of two.
The first mode was a straightforward Gym battle. Win, and receive the “Coordination Badge”. Kotoko was in charge of this.
The second mode involved registration. At a set time, the challenger would select a Wurmple or another Pokémon Egg from Fallarbor Gym and receive the “Basic Coordination-Oriented Training Method”. If the challenger could use this Bug-type Pokémon to earn a Ribbon within six months, they could then challenge Terrance with that same Pokémon. Upon approval, they would be awarded the “Advanced Coordination-Oriented Training Method” and the “Honorary Coordination Badge”.
Even so, the Advanced Coordination-Oriented Training Method was still far inferior, much too inferior, to the Beautifly’s current “Wind Domain” technique.
If someone wanted Terrance to give away the training method for the Wind Domain and the four weather-based secret techniques for free, Terrance would definitely have Arcanine headbutt that person right back out the door.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Just as Terrance was enjoying a leisurely moment reading, there was a sudden knock at the door.
“The first Gym challenger has arrived.”
“That fast?” Terrance was stunned.
The Gym challengers he was responsible for were, without exception, Trainers who had received a Pokémon Egg and training method, and earned a Ribbon.
Battling against such challengers was actually something of a headache for Terrance. He would certainly have to hold back during the fight. Compared to that, he’d rather face a stronger Trainer… On second thought, Terrance doesn’t want to keep battling Trainers who are much stronger than him either. Once or twice is fine, but constantly being crushed would also affect his mood.
“Have them wait a bit, I need to get ready,” Terrance coughed.
The challenger was here for the Honorary Coordination Badge and the advanced training method, and ever since Terrance’s performance at the Super Grand Festival, this Badge had acquired value equivalent to that of a Ribbon.
With this Badge in hand, one could qualify for the Grand Festival just as with a Ribbon.
This change, combined with Beautifly’s performance in the festival, had recently increased the number of Trainers choosing the second Gym challenge mode, something Kotoko often complained about.
“Alright, let’s test this challenger’s skills.” Narrowing his eyes, Terrance climbed out the window and headed straight for the Beautifly training outside.
Anyone able to meet the prerequisites for the second challenge mode was bound to possess excellent coordination skills. Facing such opponents, Terrance hoped things would be more interesting.
…..
…..
At that moment, outside Fallarbor Gym, there were not just one but two Trainers—a male and a female.
The female Trainer, with long pink hair, wearing a green jacket and a miniskirt, had arrived first. After her came a boy in a purple-and-dark-cyan long-sleeved jacket, dark purple pants, and similarly colored sneakers. He stopped at the Gym entrance.
The female Trainer looked at him with slight confusion and asked, “Are you here to challenge Fallarbor Gym too?”
However, the boy’s obvious disregard for her made a big vein pop on her head, and she became even more annoyed when she saw his somewhat gloomy expression.
“So this is Fallarbor Gym? Doesn’t look like much.”
The boy’s clear underestimation of Fallarbor Gym completely set the female Trainer off.
“Hey, if you’re a challenger, show some respect. This isn’t a place you can insult.”
The boy turned his head to glance at the female Trainer who was shouting at him in dissatisfaction. It seemed that he only just now noticed her.
In response to her yelling, he calmly said, “I was just talking about the architectural style.”
The female Trainer was visibly taken aback. It was undeniable that the earthy style of Fallarbor Gym, which aligned with Bug-Type Pokémon, looked very natural and simple. However, this also made Fallarbor Gym feel a world apart from the “high-end and sophisticated” vibe.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.” From inside the Gym, Kotoko personally came out to welcome the two of them with a smile.
“If you talk about the Gym like that, he’s going to get upset. He’s quite satisfied with its architectural style, after all,” Kotoko remarked, having overheard their conversation.
“My name’s Paul. I’m here for a Gym battle,” the boy said, stepping forward.
“Hey, wait a second! I was here first. My name’s Fumiko, and I already booked a Gym battle with Mr. Terrance. Oh, and here’s my Coordination Badge.” The pink-haired girl quickly spoke up, unwilling to be overtaken.
Kotoko looked between the two in surprise. She knew Fumiko, but this Trainer named Paul. Is he a challenger who just arrived?
Judging by the situation, this seemed to be Paul’s first time at Fallarbor Gym.
‘If nothing unexpected happens, the one to face him would likely be me’, Kotoko thought.
