"BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!"
Pink meteors crashed into the ground, completely bathing Jack's surroundings in brilliant rose-colored light.
Mega Sableye held its massive red gemstone as a shield while resisting the aerial bombardment, even activating "Amnesia" to boost its special defense.
However, it could only minimize Moonblast's damage at the cost of its own survival.
Fairy-type moves dealt double damage to Mega Sableye. While its dual defensive capabilities had indeed improved after Mega Evolution, its overall stamina remained unchanged.
The enormous red gemstone shattered into fist-sized fragments under the overwhelming pink meteor shower, scattering across the forest floor. As Mega Sableye released its Mega Evolution form, all the broken gemstone pieces were absorbed back into its body one by one, reforming into a small red crystal that emerged from its chest.
Meanwhile, Mega Garchomp clamped down on Alakazam with devastating force.
Alakazam instinctively attempted to activate Teleport for evasion.
However, when it tried to enter spatial dimensions, it discovered that space felt like an impenetrable iron wall. Rather than entering dimensional space, Alakazam nearly collided with the barrier. Fortunately, its reflexes were quick enough to avoid injury.
Facing Mega Garchomp at point-blank range, Alakazam only had time to create a "Protect" barrier for defense.
"CRACK!" The protective barrier constructed by Protect shattered like the sugar coating on candy, easily crunched through by Mega Garchomp before the Dragon-type completely consumed its target.
The attack penetrated completely.
Following up with Dragon Claw for good measure.
While Dragon-type moves had no type advantage against Psychic-type Alakazam, facing Mega Garchomp's overwhelming power, Alakazam's defensive capabilities were essentially meaningless.
Another instant knockout.
Observing his benefactor trainer, Jack had decisively abandoned all his Pokémon while Alakazam battled Mega Garchomp. He now rode a Luxray toward the outskirts of the Malaya Forest, even activating "Wild Charge" for maximum speed.
Surging, frenzied electrical energy crackled through the forest as they fled.
"Run! Run! As long as I reach a populated area, he won't dare kill me!" Despite his desperate situation, Jack's thinking remained remarkably clear.
However, he had miscalculated the circumstances.
Chris had been traveling by Pokémon for more than an hour since leaving the hotel—reaching any populated area would be nearly impossible in such a short time.
Jack himself had chosen to attack in this location precisely because it was deep within the Malaya Forest, making discovery unlikely.
What he hadn't anticipated was that he would be the one attempting to escape.
"Run?" Chris sneered and snapped his fingers decisively.
While racing through the forest, Luxray suddenly felt the world spinning around it. In the next instant, it crashed directly into a massive tree, leaving it stunned and disoriented.
Jack, who had been riding on Luxray's back, was immediately thrown from his mount. Nearby, his Alakazam was also falling to the ground with swirling eyes indicating complete defeat.
Both Luxray and Jack had been forcibly retrieved by Mega Gardevoir using its enhanced Teleport ability.
His desperate struggle was nothing more than entertainment in Chris's eyes.
"I'll move ahead. Handle this situation as you see fit," Professor Vladimir announced, continuing forward and leaving Jack's fate entirely to Chris's discretion.
Chris approached the disheveled Jack with Mega Garchomp at his side.
Five minutes later, Chris caught up with Professor Vladimir while riding Arcanine.
"Did you kill him?"
Professor Vladimir asked Chris about Jack's resolution.
"Yes," Chris answered honestly.
Since the other party had come to kill him, there was no reason to show mercy.
Death represented the most appropriate ending for Jack.
Before dying, Jack had attempted to beg for mercy, promising Chris money, property, and Pokémon items—anything he possessed in exchange for his life.
Unfortunately, Chris had no interest in any of Jack's possessions.
Someone with a monthly income in the tens of billions wouldn't be impressed by such offerings.
However, before dealing with Jack permanently, Chris had used Gardevoir's hypnosis to determine his opponent's true motives. The investigation confirmed it was simply "greed" for his Mega Gardevoir—nothing more complex.
That's why Jack had been killed and buried.
The middle-aged man with the goatee was buried alongside him.
As for Jack's Pokémon team, Chris followed his usual practice of transferring them into his handheld device before releasing them into the wild.
"Professor, would you be interested in training a Sableye for fun?" Chris offered, presenting the Sableye Mega Evolution stone he had just acquired.
Chris himself had no interest in raising a Sableye.
Mega Sableye possessed Ghost and Dark typing, with the extremely rare and powerful "Magic Bounce" ability.
Magic Bounce: While on the battlefield, continuously maintains Magic Coat status, which nullifies certain status moves targeting the user and reflects them back to the original attacker.
Combined with its excellent dual resistances, this made for a quite effective "defensive wall."
"I don't have the energy to train any new Pokémon at my age. Since Sableye is Ghost-type, why don't you give this Mega Evolution stone to Senior Roy?" Professor Vladimir declined with a wave. If he were younger, he might have seriously considered raising a Sableye.
"That's right! I almost forgot that Senior Roy specializes in Ghost-types," Chris said, slapping his forehead as he quickly pulled out his phone to message Roy.
"Senior, I have a Sableye Mega Evolution stone. Are you interested?"
After a brief wait, Senior Roy replied.
"Absolutely. I'll trade you five Secret treasure-level Pokémon items for it."
"Perfect. I'll give it to you in person during the New Year celebration at Professor's house," Chris responded without hesitation.
When maintaining relationships, if someone only seeks to take advantage of others or constantly allows themselves to be exploited, the friendship won't endure.
Sableye's Mega Evolution stone was less valuable than those for Garchomp or Charizard, so exchanging it for five treasure-level Pokémon items represented a fair deal.
Chris continued moving forward with Professor Vladimir at a steady pace.
Soon, they arrived at the spatial rift that had been torn open during Landorus's previous battle.
"Is this the location?"
"Yes."
Chris had marked this spot during his previous visit, so there was no possibility of error.
Professor Vladimir gestured to direct his Gengar's actions.
Circling the area, Gengar located the traces of the dimensional fracture.
"Correct, this is indeed the place," Professor Vladimir confirmed, beginning to retrieve his Poké Balls. The next step required tearing open the crack using tremendous force.
At that moment, a khaki-colored figure passed through the forest and suddenly materialized in front of both trainers.
This figure stood with arms folded across its chest, displaying an aged face while its lower body was obscured by white clouds. It regarded Chris and Professor Vladimir with cold, calculating eyes.
Upon seeing this legendary figure, Chris's pupils contracted sharply, and he couldn't suppress an involuntary exclamation.
"Landorus?!"
