"Teleport!"
"Earth Power!"
Gardevoir instantly teleported an Ampharos that had been preparing to use Discharge into a corner, while Garchomp immediately followed up with a devastating Earth Power attack that knocked it unconscious.
Chris quickly threw a Poké Ball to capture the defeated Electric-type.
The Ampharos, already drained of its strength and suffering heavy injuries from the super-effective Ground-type move, was unable to resist and was easily captured by Chris's Poké Ball.
Chris glanced at the newly caught Ampharos's status information.
Level 53.
"This Zapdos certainly knows how to maintain quality control," Chris muttered under his breath.
This was the thirteenth Pokémon he had successfully captured today. Every single Pokémon that Zapdos had hypnotized and transported through the spatial rifts was above level 50, showing the legendary bird's preference for strong subordinates.
However, even at this level, these targets were still manageable for Chris's team.
One decisive attack was usually enough to subdue them without much difficulty.
In the distance, Theodore was conducting his own rescue operations. His Xatu wasn't as powerful in spatial manipulation as Chris's Gardevoir, but it was still proficient in Teleport techniques.
Theodore's strategy involved teleporting his Ground-type Pokémon, Claydol, into position for clean Earth Power attacks.
Then he would efficiently capture and relocate the hypnotized Pokémon to safety. It was important to remember that before entering this crisis zone, Theodore had been a formidable trainer capable of defeating foreign Elite trainers in direct combat. His strength was nearly equivalent to that of a Gym Leader in the China region.
Because Xatu was naturally gifted with Future Sight abilities, every move Theodore made was carefully calculated and executed with precision, allowing him to remain concealed during the operation.
Working together from opposite sides of the city, Chris and Theodore slowly but systematically "liberated" all the Pokémon that had fallen under the hypnotic control in both the northern and southern districts.
After less than two hours of this coordinated effort, Zapdos's lieutenant Pokémon - a Bronzong and a Metagross - emerged to conduct their inspection rounds.
Neither of these Psychic-type supervisors were foolish. While one or two Electric-type Pokémon escaping from Hypnosis might have been attributed to random chance, having more than a dozen Pokémon disappear one after another right under their watchful eyes was clearly suspicious.
When they couldn't locate any of the missing Pokémon even with comprehensive psychic scanning, they knew something deliberate was happening.
Therefore, both Bronzong and Metagross began conducting thorough searches throughout the entire city.
They employed Teleport, Future Sight, and intensive Psychic scanning techniques to track down the intruders.
The two supervisor Pokémon frequently landed at locations where Pokémon had recently disappeared, but they consistently arrived just moments too late to catch the perpetrators.
Whether it was Chris's Gardevoir or Theodore's Xatu, both possessed psychic abilities that surpassed those of the supervisor Pokémon Bronzong and Metagross.
"Let's withdraw for now. If Bronzong and Metagross can't find anything, they'll eventually return to their posts," Theodore instructed his Xatu to communicate telepathically with Gardevoir, who then relayed the message to Chris.
A minute later, the two trainers met up in the wilderness outside the city limits.
"How much time do we have left?" Theodore asked Chris.
"Just over three hours," Chris replied. There were still three hours remaining before the twelve-hour deadline he had agreed upon with his teacher.
"Then let's wait about an hour before resuming our operations."
"Don't worry about it - I have a solution," Chris said, revealing his Z-Power bracelet.
Colorful light erupted from the bracelet as Gardevoir underwent Mega Evolution, its form shifting into the more powerful Mega Gardevoir.
"Mega Gardevoir?" Theodore exclaimed in surprise. It was already extremely unlikely that Chris possessed a Shiny Gardevoir, but he hadn't expected that Chris had also obtained a Mega Evolution stone for it.
The young trainer's incredible luck was truly enviable!
"Gardevoir, extend your psychic power to cover the entire city. Use Teleport to bring every hypnotized Pokémon directly to us," Chris commanded.
The range of Gardevoir's Teleport was limited by the distance its psychic power could reach. When forcibly moving unwilling targets, the effective range was reduced to only one-third of its psychic scanning distance. However, even this reduced range was more than sufficient after Mega Evolution.
A Magnezone was teleported directly to their location.
Garchomp immediately struck with Earth Power, and Chris followed up by throwing a Poké Ball to capture the defeated Electric-type.
They repeated the process with another Pokémon.
"Forced teleportation? Your Gardevoir's mastery of Teleport techniques is truly impressive," Theodore couldn't help but praise.
The systematic operation of rescuing hypnotized Pokémon continued in an orderly fashion. Even as Bronzong and Metagross increased their patrol speed, flying desperately around the city and even gaining altitude to survey the area from above, they couldn't manage to locate Chris and Theodore.
"SKREEEE!" A harsh, crow-like cry echoed from within the city.
"Zapdos has awakened!" Theodore's expression became serious. "We should retreat immediately. Let's teleport to the house in the city and wait for Zapdos to leave before we continue rescuing the remaining Pokémon."
"It's too late for that," Chris shook his head grimly. Dark thunderclouds were already visible in the distance, approaching their position at an alarming speed.
Zapdos had locked onto their location.
In just a single moment, the thundercloud crossed several thousand meters and stopped directly above Chris and Theodore. A magnificent golden bird spread its razor-sharp wings and fixed its piercing gaze upon the two trainers through its pointed beak.
As a legendary Pokémon, Zapdos possessed an overwhelming presence that seemed to make the very air crackle with electric tension.
Not long ago, it had awakened from its resting state in the power station and discovered that a large group of Pokémon it had worked so hard to hypnotize and transport to this dimension had simply vanished. The few remaining ones were being teleported away right before its eyes.
This was absolutely intolerable!
Zapdos had immediately used its mastery over spatial energy to trace the "scent" of the dimensional disturbances and lock onto the thieves' position.
Now it had arrived to deal with them personally!
"Professor, please step aside and wait for updates. Leave this to me," Chris said to Theodore, tossing him the spatial locator device.
"This isn't a Pokémon that can be easily handled alone. Let's fight together," Theodore replied, looking up at the intimidating Zapdos and taking out two Poké Balls. Before making their rescue plan, he had anticipated that a battle with Zapdos might be necessary, so he had come prepared.
"No need. If I'm going to deal with Zapdos properly, I won't have the extra energy to watch out for your safety," Chris shook his head slightly, raising his hand to grab three Poké Balls.
Theodore's expression shifted to one of confusion and mild offense.
He hadn't seen Chris for a year, and while many things might have changed, the young trainer's arrogance had certainly become more pronounced.
Chris ignored Theodore's expression, focusing entirely on the Zapdos hovering before them.
This Zapdos wasn't as powerful as the one he had encountered in the underground power station!
Now he had Zeraora as a partner in battle.
This was definitely winnable!
Perhaps he could even conquer two legendary Pokémon in a single day!
Chris threw all three Poké Balls simultaneously.
Greninja, Garchomp, and Zeraora materialized on the battlefield.
These three would serve as his primary force against Zapdos today.
Theodore's eyes nearly bulged out of his head.
What was that large white feline Pokémon? The legendary Electric-type mythical Pokémon Zeraora?
But wasn't Zeraora supposed to have yellow fur?
Wait... a Shiny Zeraora?!
What incredible adventures had Chris experienced during this past year?
