CHAPTER 59: LET’S SHOW HOW IT’S DONE

(Alnitak)

We gather in the training arena for tonight’s battle. It’s me Vs Ramian, with him having a second in command like Beta, and the same for me.

The clash of two Alphas, although neither of us has ascended the throne, we are both Alpha-born.

Since Ewine purposefully held Mintaka back so I wouldn’t have the extra advantage of having my brother with me, I was left to choose my second as someone else.

I could have chosen Kacir as my second or even Rahria because she is a powerful werewolf, daughter of the father’s beta. But instead, I went with Amaia.

Amaia is not only mentally strong, but she is also faster than normal humans with heightened reflexes.

This will be an interesting battle and I can’t wait to see how Amaia will hold her ground against two fully transformed werewolves.

I am pretty sure Ramian will be choosing his mate, Filana Aztine as his second.

The moon in its third quarter shines down at us, sharing its half rays. I stretch my body, getting in rhythm and mood for the fight.

"Go for his legs, break both, and he will be brought down easily," Mintaka suggests from behind me, and I smile at my brother’s suggestion.

"I am going to be breaking a lot more than his legs though."

"Sad, you will need to be fighting two werewolves at the same time. I am not sure how much Amaia can help. It’s not a sword fight." He places his arm around my shoulder. "I still believe you should have chosen Kacir or Rahria."

I turn my head to face my brother. "I chose correctly. Zevran trusts her for some reason and I need to see how he reacts with her in combat."

He brings his right hand forward and thumps my chest. "I hope you are right, Ali. I just don’t want to be embarrassed, especially in front of the Guild Pegasus of all."

"We will win." Others begin to gather in the training area and I see Amaia making her way towards me.

As tiny as she is, she walks with grace. Her outer coat flies stylishly. Zevran howls inside my head seeing her. He is becoming restless with each passing day when it comes to her.

Mintaka moves away as she approaches me, her weapon tied at her back and hair pulled into a ponytail.

"Hey!" She offers, her raven-shaded eyes take me in with a nervous smile.

"Hey! Nervous?" I ask, stretching my leg sideways.

"A little bit. So what’s the plan?" She questions.

"Not getting any fatal injuries for starters. Basically, you will have to keep his second in command distracted so she won’t interfere. In case you get injured just leave the battlefield," I give her clear instructions.

"I won’t and I will have your back. Just trust me. I know all the weak spots to hit on a werewolf, believe it or not, I have defeated plenty," she flashes me a confident smile, and I return it.

"I have full faith in you." I extend my fist towards her and she does the fist bump with me. "Still, if it gets too much, just flank me for a while and let me lead."

We discuss a few strategies as I inform her about Ragian’s power. Filana is simply a werewolf and not a hybrid so she doesn’t have extra powers.

Soon, the Guild Pegasus arrives as well, along with Jasian and Alnilam.

Ramian has a smirk going on especially as he casts his eyes on Amaia. I hear him whispering to Jasian and Filana.

"He chose her as his second?"

"Strange choice but it’s his. Let’s see how this battle goes. Humans need to remain relevant too," Jasian answers derisively.

He detests humans and doesn’t believe they are important enough. I feel pity for the one human student in his guild.

Alnilam approaches us. Amaia turns to watch him and there seems to be less hostility between them. I know he feels guilty because she got hurt under his punishment. He is lethal with his punishments, but not heartless; he cares deeply.

"Both of you got the strategy ready?" He questions and I nod.

"Yeah! Can’t wait to wipe that smug smile off his face."

"Ali, don’t underestimate him. He is an Alpha born just like you. The first rule of every battle is to never underestimate your opponent. Fight with all you have got but never get cocky," he gives instructions.

"I won’t." My eyes focus back on Ramian.

"Same goes for you, Amaia. Remember what we discussed." I hear him say.

"I will, Sir," Amaia answers from beside me.

"Good luck, guys. You got this." Kacir wishes us luck.

Rahria remains distant, and it pains me to see that all three of them sit apart from each other instead of together like a guild. If the differences had remained between Amaia and me too, we could never work together. That’s another reason I made peace with Amaia and I am going to make this my personal mission to bring all five of us together someday.

Jamina and her Guild Serpens arrive too and take their seats to witness and learn. Because this is all about combat, strategy and knowing the enemy. Showcasing your skills in your truest form on the battlefield.

Once everyone has gathered, Jamina takes the centre ground.

"Welcome to the ultimate showdown between the two teams. On the right side, we have Team Leo, represented by Alnitak and Amaia."

Guild Serpen and our friends cheer for us.

"On the left side, we have Team Pegasus represented by Ramian and Filana."

More cheers follow.

"The rules are simple. Make the other team surrender or be critically injured so that they can’t fight. You can’t kill, this is not a match to death but a training session. Since its combined combat, use of magic is allowed along with transformation and any weapons you wish to use. So, good luck, may the best team win."

Hearing the announcement I reach back and pull off my shirt, throwing it towards Mintaka, leaving myself only in shorts.

My eyes focus and Zevran bursts forward. My head tilts towards Amaia before I transform into my wolf and I say.

"Let’s show them how it’s done."
