Pretending to Cultivate in Kindergarten
Chapter 333: A Joyful Family
The Lin house was buzzing that afternoon. Lin Yingjun and Lin Xiaoli were busy in the kitchen preparing a feast for their future daughters-in-law.
The three little ones, one adult, and Lin Zhengran all headed to the kitchen to help out.
Jiang Jingshi and Little He Qing, who knew how to cook, helped with the actual cooking. Han Wenwen and Jiang Xueli, who weren’t as handy in the kitchen, handled washing vegetables and prepping ingredients.
During that time, Little He Qing was surprised by Jiang Jingshi’s skillful cooking:
“Sister Jiang, you’re this good at cooking too? You totally look like someone who cooks all the time!”
Jiang Jingshi smiled as she held the spatula. “Yeah, don’t be fooled by appearances. I’m actually really good at it. You’ll get to taste it later.”
The aroma drifting through the kitchen even surprised Lin Xiaoli. “A big boss like you, Xiao Jingshi, shouldn’t you normally have a personal chef? How do you even get the chance to cook?”
“Auntie, it’s more of a personal hobby. Sometimes I just get the itch to go cook in my private kitchen. Or whenever Zhengzheng comes to see me, I’ll make him a meal. He really enjoys my cooking.”
Little He Qing thought to herself—so Sister Jiang even cooks for Lin Zhengran? She’d never heard that before.
Lin Xiaoli said, “So that’s how it is. That’s a pretty unique hobby.”
On the other side, Jiang Xueli and Han Wenwen were still prepping vegetables. The former looked at the empty trash can and complained, “Han Wenwen, why aren’t you cutting off the celery roots?”
Little Fox looked puzzled. “Why should I? You can eat that part, right? I mean, it’s not exactly tasty, but…”
“You eat celery roots? My family always cuts them off when cooking. They’ve got tons of dirt on them.”
Little Fox looked at how Jiang Xueli was removing all the roots. “What a waste! Just wash off the dirt. I mean, I don’t cook often, but when I do, I keep them. They’re kinda expensive.”
Jiang Xueli sweatdropped. “You’re this frugal? I’ve seen you buy all kinds of random junk, though.”
Han Wenwen laughed. “Save where you can, splurge where you should.”
The kitchen was full of laughter and conversation.
Since there wasn’t enough space inside, Lin Zhengran and his dad were outside the kitchen washing carrots and other vegetables.
Listening to the lively chatter, Lin Yingjun shook his head. “Ranran, I never imagined our house would be this lively one day—four daughters-in-law.”
Lin Zhengran washed the carrots and replied honestly, “Honestly, I didn’t expect it either. At first, I thought I might go my whole life without meeting someone I liked and that not getting married would be fine. Who knew I’d meet so many.”
In the beginning, Lin Zhengran didn’t even think that way about He Qing. It was only after spending so much time together that he started wanting to take care of the girl for life.
Dad Lin was speechless and whispered, “Let me tell you, Ranran—Dad’s not trying to mess with you, but having a bunch of women around isn’t always a good thing. Pleasing them all can be a pain. Sometimes just dealing with your mom takes me half a day.”
“Hubby!” Lin Xiaoli’s death-sense activated in the kitchen. Even though she didn’t hear exactly what her husband was telling their son, his sneaky tone set off her alarms. She gave him a look of disdain. “What are you whispering to Ranran about over there?”
Lin Yingjun chuckled. “Nothing, nothing. Just some father-son chat.”
Then he glanced at his son and added, “Your mom can be pretty scary sometimes, huh.”
Lin Zhengran laughed, thinking how adorably naive and sweet his mom really was.
That evening, the whole family joyfully enjoyed their dinner together. Like Lin Xiaoli had once said, girls usually can’t get along with their romantic rivals.
But maybe it was because they’d all known each other for so long, or maybe because they’d already had many meals together at this house.
When they gathered, it felt as harmonious as a regular family meal.
They even kept placing food on Lin Zhengran’s plate.
After dinner, the local mall was still open. Lin Xiaoli went shopping and bonded with her four daughters-in-law, hand in hand.
This time, Lin Zhengran and Lin Yingjun didn’t tag along. The father and son stayed home watching TV.
They discussed sleeping arrangements for the night.
Lin Yingjun said, “Ranran, even if they’re all your girlfriends… well, you know what I mean, right? Tonight, you’re bunking with Dad. Let the ladies share a room.”
Lin Zhengran didn’t argue. After all, just having his parents accept all four relationships was already pretty open-minded.
If they all slept together tonight, that might really push his parents' limits.
So that night, Lin Zhengran slept in the same room as his dad.
After the girls and Lin Xiaoli came back from shopping, they all squeezed into Lin Zhengran’s bedroom.
That night, Lin Zhengran lay in bed quietly and comfortably.
But he didn’t even need to guess—his four girlfriends and mom, gathered together, were bound to be chatting till 1 or 2 in the morning without stopping.
And sure enough, just as he predicted.
Lin Xiaoli spent the whole night telling the girls stories from when Lin Zhengran was a baby, and even from his toddler years. No one knew how late they stayed up. Everyone listened with rapt attention, and one particular Fox even considered recording it out of excitement.
On Sunday morning, the house was once again bustling with people brushing their teeth and washing up.
While eating breakfast, Lin Zhengran suddenly remembered something. Back in high school, Han Wenwen had wanted to explore all the fun places in the city.
But she got food poisoning that day, and they only made it to one amusement park. They hadn’t gone out again since.
So he suggested, “Dad, Mom, He Qing, Wenwen, Lili, Jingshi—since it’s Sunday and we don’t have anything planned, why don’t we all go into the city and have some fun?”
“The city?” Dad was puzzled.
Lin Zhengran nodded. “Yeah, even though we don’t live that far from downtown, I’ve barely had the time to hang out with them properly. Since we’re all free today, let’s go. My treat.” Then he suddenly glanced at Little Fox.
Hearing Brother Zhengran’s words and looking into his eyes, Little Fox immediately remembered the promise he made in high school—to take her around the entire city.
She hadn’t expected Brother Zhengran to still remember that. Her face suddenly turned red.
She was touched.
Thanks to Lin Zhengran’s suggestion, everyone was on board. After all, none of them had properly explored the city before.
So the whole family piled into the car for a day trip downtown.
During the outing, Lin Zhengran and Lin Yingjun walked behind, while the women led the way, excitedly exploring everything in sight.
Most of the day passed in a happy blur.
In the afternoon, the group rested on a bench inside a mall.
Lin Xiaoli said, “Today was so fun. You girls are heading back to school tonight, right? Then there’s no need to send us off. Your uncle and I will catch a ride home, and you can drive back to school.”
Lin Zhengran turned his head and said, “It won’t take long to drop you off.”
But Lin Xiaoli, blushing for some reason, waved him off. “It’s a hassle to go back and forth, and your dad and I still want to do a little more shopping. We’re not in a rush to go home.”
Lin Zhengran realized—his mom had bought a lot of new clothes and random stuff today, and Dad had dressed up neatly too.
Judging from that, his parents were probably planning a little date night of their own. So he didn’t push it further.
He smiled. “Alright then. Dad, Mom, you can grab a taxi home later. I’ll take the girls back to school.”
The four girls didn’t quite get why they weren’t sending Uncle and Auntie off, but since Lin Zhengran had said so, they didn’t question it.
Lin Xiaoli smiled as she looked at her beautiful daughters-in-law.
“But… before we wrap up, Auntie wants to say one thing. Even though your uncle and I agreed to this, if you really want to stay together, there’s still a big hurdle ahead. We wish you all success.”
The four girls naturally understood what she was referring to. Each of them nodded with unwavering determination in their eyes.
