CHAPTER 105: ANCIENT LAKE... MYSTERIOUS OLD MAN... TRIAL...
Through the transparent film of the starship, they noticed that the serene lake they saw initially was much further than they thought. They didn’t think too much about it at first. It wasn’t until the starship began moving that they realized the serene pond was much bigger than they thought.
They watched in shock as the starship moved up. It was then that they realized the actual length of the lake encompassed the whole starship and still stretched into the vast distance. For the first time, shock appeared on Kathryn’s face, as though this wasn’t something she had expected at all.
"What the heck is that?" Luka exclaimed from the side.
Kranos’s eyes were wide with shock as well; this was the first time he had seen something like this. He noticed another surprising thing: although the ship had moved away from the lake, the lake didn’t ripple in the slightest. He turned to Kathryn. Just as he was about to ask if she knew anything about the lake, he noticed the look of disbelief etched on her face.
He decided to remain silent and continued staring at the lake while pondering something. However, just as he became slightly lost in his thoughts, for a fleeting moment, he caught a glimpse of something flash in the lake—an image?
Kranos was slightly startled. The others didn’t seem to have noticed it. This time, he didn’t let his thoughts wander but just stared at the lake. The next moment, Kranos’s eyes widened in horror and disbelief!
What did he see? It was his reflection! But it wasn’t just his normal reflection; it was the reflection of his old image from his previous life, just before he died. Kranos glanced around to see if the others had also seen the same thing and soon noticed their peculiar expressions.
"Sister, are you seeing your reflection as well?" Kevin asked from the side.
"Yes," Kathryn replied in a daze. However, her mind was racing with countless thoughts: So this is where he got that from? I previously thought that I would get it from the Sovereign Star Sect, but I didn’t get it in the end. It seems they weren’t with it from the start. Only a lake as mysterious as this, that can even display my state as an anomaly... can actually possess such heaven-defying power!
Just as everyone was staring intently at the lake, they saw... an old man?
The old man was on a boat, slowly paddling it towards them. At this moment, the starship didn’t seem to be moving at all; it was as though they were frozen as the old man approached them. The old man glanced at them, then smiled amicably, causing his wrinkles to stretch slightly.
"Why don’t you join me?" the old man said, still smiling.
Immediately, Kranos and the others mysteriously vanished from the ship and appeared standing on the lake. Kranos was instantly terrified; he didn’t even know how he left the starship!
Standing on the lake, it felt like solid ground. The air was fresh, with a slight breeze drifting about. The old man continued speaking to them.
"This lake is called the Heart Monitoring Lake. It can monitor the state of your heart and show you your true self. There is a trial hidden within the lake, to find your true self. If you can successfully do so, you will receive a treasure that will change your fate. Are you interested?"
Immediately, the air became tense. Kranos and the group glanced at each other, noticing the expression on their faces. Even Kranos faintly couldn’t control himself at the mention of a treasure that could change his fate. If he had such a treasure, wouldn’t he become even more powerful?
Pursuing the ultimate peak of strength, Kranos wanted to become stronger till he transcended all the limits that existed! Noticing the gazes in each other’s eyes, the elder smiled slightly once again, then waved his hand.
Immediately, Kranos and the group felt the solid ground melt instantly, and they sank. Kranos was immediately submerged under the calm lake. He felt an ethereal sensation, as though he was being transported to another world... his mind felt unprecedentedly calm, and for a moment, he felt completely free from all the worries of the world.
"How interesting... an anomaly... will she be able to pass the trial with all the troubles that come with being an anomaly? Besides, that young man with silver hair seems to possess the trait of an elderly figure; however, I didn’t sense any traces of him being an anomaly..."
"There’s also that young man with them that has the profound aura of luck engraved into him... what a strange group." The old man continued to mutter to himself as he stared at the lake which Kranos and the others had fallen into.
...
After what felt like eternity, Kranos opened his eyes to a new world... he glanced around and noticed... Kranos?
A young, silver-haired figure that looked exactly like him was staring at him in confusion. "Grandpa, why did you suddenly faint?"
"Faint? I was just somewhere right now... a lake? Starship?" Faint memories began to surface in Kranos’s mind, but they felt extremely blurry.
"Grandpa, what are you talking about? There are no ships here! And, what lake? Old man, did you drink when Aunt Momo told you not to?"
"Aunt Momo?" Kranos muttered; he faintly recalled this name. "Wait, Aunt Momo?" Kranos was stunned; she was his daughter’s friend! At this moment, Kranos finally recalled who he actually was... his name was Kranos, and he was an... explorer!!!
...
Meanwhile, the same scene played out on the side of the others.
Kevin had awakened as a little boy of six years old in the Elven World. The memories of how his life had progressed from there had also mostly faded.
...
Luka glanced around as soon as he woke up; he realized he had awakened to that terrifying night where his whole family was destroyed by a demonic creature...
