Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law
Chapter 172 - 172 Cunning Julia (3)_1
"Adele!" Glades Horne's brows knitted together; he was displeased with Adele Horne's attitude towards Julia Bluen. He reached for his phone, intending to call Dr. Lei, but Adele stopped him. Assuming she shared Julia's dislike for Dr. Lei, he glared at Adele and ordered sternly, "Go see the doctor."
"I won't go! I just won't! It's better if I die from this illness; then I won't speak ill of your Julia anymore." Adele's petulant nature didn't fade even while she was ill. As she spoke, she glared at Julia Bluen again.
Julia Bluen showed no reaction to Adele's previous action, just arching an eyebrow before exchanging an unfathomable look with Glades Horne. Then, she gave Adele a faint smile. To Adele, that smile felt like needles pricking her eyes.
Julia must be happy that I'm sick! Adele fumed, her resentment towards Julia deepening. If my brother had married Orlando Evans, Orlando would have been heartbroken to see me sick, running back and forth to take care of me.
"Don't be too hard on her, Glades," Julia said with a faint smile, her almond-shaped eyes sweeping over Adele with a touch of mockery. "Don't you know Adele fears getting injections and taking medicine more than anything? Little girls don't have much courage."
Adele was so infuriated by Julia's attitude and tone that she almost spat blood.
See! This is my sister-in-law, wishing for my death! Adele thought. "An elder sister-in-law is like a mother"? It's all talk! Is there any sister-in-law who cares for her husband's younger sister like a mother would? It's all lies concocted by writers!
"Who said I'm a little girl?" Adele choked back her tears and retorted resentfully at Julia.
"Because only little girls refuse to see the doctor when they're sick," Julia said coolly, her voice laced with mockery. "Those long syringes, those angels in white are Demons to a little girl. And those bitter pills are like poison that a little girl would never want to take."
"You! Glades," Adele cried out, her head hot with anger, unable to think clearly, "this is the good wife you've married! This is how she treats your only sister!" All she knew was that Julia's sarcasm was grating. I can't lose to Julia! I can't give her the chance to mock me!
Adele took a large step towards Julia. Glades, thinking she intended to hit Julia, moved like lightning, instantly shielding his wife.
Adele felt even more jealous.
In my brother's heart, I truly am less important than the Bluen sisters, she thought bitterly. The more this is the case, the more determined I am to defeat them!
Who said I'm a little girl? I'll go see the doctor! Who said I'm afraid of injections and medicine? I'll get an injection and take medicine just to show Julia!
"Let's go! Follow me to the hospital, and I'll show you I'm not a little girl!" Adele declared, ignoring Glades Horne's taut, handsome face. She grabbed Julia Bluen's wrist and started pulling her outside.
This time, Glades Horne didn't protect Julia Bluen, letting Adele drag her out.
As Adele pulled Julia outside, Julia secretly turned her head and made an OK gesture to Glades.
Seeing his wife's gesture, Glades's lips lifted slightly, a faint smile escaping.
My sister is hot-tempered and can't stand provocation, he thought. With just a few words and a mocking look, Julia has infuriated her enough to make her seek out a doctor proactively. If we had forced her, she might not have gone. If we had cajoled her, she would have put on airs. Only reverse psychology would work. And, of course, a provocation from Julia, the person she dislikes the most, made it even more effective.
The elderly lady who had witnessed everything also revealed a deep smile. I haven't misjudged Julia Bluen, she mused. She has enough ability to manage that willful child, Adele.
"'What's going on? Did something happen?'" The question hung in the air. By the time Gian Horne and Mila Anderson came downstairs, Julia Bluen had already driven Adele Horne away from the Horne Family villa. They had heard Adele's shouting earlier but hadn't made out what she was yelling about. What could have occurred so early in the morning? they wondered. Usually, Adele sleeps until past ten, and even on the rare occasions she wakes up early, it's never before seven.
"Mom, it's nothing serious. Adele caught a cold. Julia is taking her to see the doctor," Glades Horne explained calmly to his parents. He then said goodbye to the elderly lady and turned to leave the room. Upon exiting the Main House, two Bodyguards immediately appeared and followed behind him.
Mila Anderson listened with both concern and astonishment. Naturally, I'm worried about my sick child, she thought. What baffles me is why my daughter, who clearly dislikes Julia, would let Julia take her to the doctor. Also, I remember my daughter hates going to hospitals—the strong smell of disinfectant and her fear of needles and medication. Despite being twenty-two, her face turns deathly pale at the sight of a Nurse with a syringe. So, unless her illness is severe, Adele won't get injections, and she only takes medication when Glades glares at her. Julia actually managed to get my daughter to see the doctor?
Before she could ask anything more, Glades had disappeared from her sight.
"Mom, how's Adele?" Mila Anderson asked, seeing that the elderly lady was also there as she grabbed her purse.
"It's nothing, just a cold and a slight fever. Julia has already taken her to the doctor," the elderly lady said, a sly smile on her shrewd face. The showdown between my granddaughter and granddaughter-in-law was truly enjoyable to watch! Heh, now everything is proceeding as planned, and I believe boredom won't trouble me anymore. There will be drama to watch every day, and I look forward to seeing my precious granddaughter-in-law demonstrate her skills, winning over my granddaughter and daughter-in-law.
"I'll go take a look," Mila said, still uneasy. I'm still worried about letting my daughter and daughter-in-law be alone together; who knows if they might start a quarrel.
"Mila, we agreed to go to the beach today. My private yacht is all ready," Gian Horne reminded her as he saw his wife getting ready to leave.
Last night, the old couple had a rare conversation. As they talked, Mila had mentioned offhand that she found playing cards every day rather boring. So, he had suggested they go to the beach today. Although it was early winter, the daytime wasn't too cold. Besides, the weather today was lovely—calm and perfect for a beach outing.
