Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law
Chapter 198: Fickle Affection (4)_1
Today was her first day back at work, and she wanted to set off early.
Glades Horne lay on his side, propping himself up, quietly watching her bustling about, his eyes filled with deep tenderness.
"Do you need me to accompany you?"
"No need, I can manage on my own," Julia Bluen rejected without a second thought.
Glades Horne then fell silent, but a trace of inscrutability flashed through his eyes.
「Half an hour later」
Julia Bluen took a handbag worth about a thousand dollars and descended the stairs alone.
"Young Madam, you're down. Breakfast is ready," Uncle Ying greeted her as soon as he saw her, smiling as he spoke. "The Young Master woke up before six o'clock and personally came downstairs to instruct us to prepare your favorite breakfast before you came down. He said you were going to work today and didn't want you to leave on an empty stomach."
The Young Master was domineering towards the Young Madam, yet this dominance was infused with a tenderness that everyone envied and longed for.
Julia Bluen was stunned for a moment. Had Glades woken up before six?
She couldn't help but glance upstairs, only to see Glades Horne descending. He was fastening the cuffs of his black shirt as he walked; he hadn't put on his suit jacket or tied his tie yet.
Julia Bluen turned and walked back, blocking his path in a few steps. She took the suit jacket he was holding and helped him put it on. Glades Horne unreservedly spread his arms, enjoying his wife's attention, while Uncle Ying discreetly walked away downstairs with a smile.
After helping him into the suit jacket, she also took his tie and tied it for him.
Once he was properly dressed, she chided him, "Don't always fuss over me like a mother hen. You need to take care of yourself. The weather has changed, and you came downstairs without dressing properly. If you catch a cold, someone will be deeply worried."
Glades Horne merely gazed at her intently, saying nothing. He liked this chiding concern of hers.
When Julia Bluen left the house, it was exactly eight o'clock.
She planned to go to the Huayi Toy Industry Company first today. It was a forty-minute drive from their Golden Kirin residence, so she would arrive at the company around nine o'clock. Senior executives usually arrived around that time.
The first day of work always felt busy and chaotic.
Upon returning to the company, Julia, accompanied by Vice President Li, first toured the various departments to understand what products the company was currently manufacturing. Then she returned to her office to review partner information, toy manufacturing processes, and their market advantages.
The newly developed high-tech toys from the R&D department were still in the testing phase, and this was her top priority.
However, since she had just taken over, her management experience and knowledge in this area were non-existent.
At that moment, she was carefully reading some internal company documents when the phone on her desk rang; it was an internal call from the receptionist.
"General Manager, a gentleman is asking to see you. He says he's your brother-in-law," the receptionist's voice, tinged with curiosity, came faintly over the line.
Rumor had it that their new General Manager was originally the prospective sister-in-law (her sister was to marry the heir) of the Horne family's heir. Yet, somehow, she herself had become the heir's wife and had taken over their company.
And on her very first day, the General Manager's brother-in-law had shown up.
Which one is he? Julia Bluen thought, her gaze still fixed on the documents she was holding. She had four brothers-in-law; who could it be this time?
"General Manager, he says his name is Henry Horne," the receptionist's sweet voice continued.
Brother Henry? Why has he come?
"Let him come up," Julia Bluen instructed, dismissing her speculations.
"Alright."
Having received a response, the receptionist hung up.
「Two minutes later」
A knock came at the door.
After Julia Bluen said, "Come in," Henry Horne pushed open the office door and walked in.
Henry Horne stood 180 centimeters tall, with refined, handsome features. He looked nothing like Glades Horne—which was natural, as they had different mothers. He appeared gentle on the surface but was actually devious—a wolf in sheep's clothing. Anyone careless enough to fall prey to him would be devoured without a trace.
"Sister-in-law, I've been sent to help," Henry Horne announced as he walked in. He went straight to Julia Bluen's desk, pulled up a nearby chair, sat down, and then picked up the documents she had been reading, preparing to explain them.
Of the five Horne sons, excluding the second young master, the other four were business prodigies with frighteningly high entrepreneurial talents.
Glades Horne hadn't accompanied Julia Bluen to the company, but he was worried she wouldn't be accustomed to the work or would struggle to get started. That's why he had sent Henry Horne to guide her.
"Wait, Brother Henry, did Glades send you?" Julia Bluen stopped him, her expression turning serious. "Didn't he say he wouldn't interfere with my work?"
"Big Brother just asked me to come and see how you're doing. He was afraid you weren't familiar with things and didn't want you to overtire yourself," Henry Horne chuckled, readily admitting he was there on his older brother's orders.
"Didn't he say he wouldn't meddle?" Julia Bluen's almond eyes widened.
"Big Brother isn't meddling. He's not even interfering with the Valence Group. *I'm* the one meddling, and I'm not part of the Valence Group," Henry Horne chuckled again.
"Brother Henry, you can go back. I don't need help; I can manage on my own." Julia Bluen reached out, took her documents back from Henry Horne, and effectively dismissed him.
Henry Horne was still smiling. He stood up, leaned on the desk, and looked at Julia Bluen with an amused expression, saying, "Alright, I'll go. But, Sister-in-law, you're two years younger than me, and you've always called me Brother Henry. Now that you're my actual sister-in-law, I've changed how I address you. You should change too, okay? Otherwise, our big brother can get seriously possessive."
Julia Bluen pursed her lips. She was used to calling him that and hadn't adjusted yet. It was just like when she first started addressing Glades Horne; she had also habitually called him Brother Glades.
