CHAPTER 349: CHAPTER 349: CONFIRMED PREGNANCY, A KISS TO SEAL THE AFFECTION (4)_1
Julia Bluen was busy in her trading company when she suddenly received a call from an unknown number. After answering, she realized it was her close friend.
"Rachel, where are you? Have you arrived in A City? Is this a payphone? The area code still looks like it’s from T City," Julia asked with immediate concern upon hearing Rachel Bailey’s voice.
"Julia, I’m currently in XX Town, using a phone from a small shop by the roadside. I lost my phone, I didn’t bring any money, and the taxi driver kicked me out of the car. I can’t go anywhere. Damn it, if you’re a friend, come save me fast!" Rachel’s voice came through, catching Julia Bluen off guard and making her heart race with anxiety.
"Don’t worry, how could this happen? Where exactly are you now? I’ll have Hansen Ruiz pick you up." Julia didn’t have a car with her, so she naturally couldn’t pick up Rachel herself. However, Hansen Ruiz was also anxious to find Rachel and most likely was on the same route as her, so calling Hansen and asking him to pick up Rachel was the best option.
"Hansen should be close to A City by now, right?" Rachel thought. Hansen owned a car and was ahead of her; he must be miles away from this town by now. Waiting for Hansen to turn back and pick her up would take longer than if Julia came herself.
"No, he should be behind you right now. I’ll tell you the reason later. I didn’t drive to work today, otherwise I would have come to get you myself. Tell me where you are, and I’ll call Hansen immediately," Julia pressed on, her anxiety mounting. Her friend was in trouble because of her own man’s doing. It was supposed to help Rachel Bailey and Hansen Ruiz, but who would have expected so many complications to arise.
Thinking that Rachel was unfamiliar with the area, she feared that if something were to happen, Hansen Ruiz would turn against Glades Horne.
"I’ll wait by the roadside. It’s the most noticeable place, so it should be easy to spot."
After Rachel disclosed her current location, she hung up the phone.
After profusely thanking the shop owner, Rachel walked towards the roadside.
As soon as Rachel hung up, Julia hurriedly called Glades Horne.
"Julia, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell? I’ll come to pick you up right now and take you home to rest," Glades said, his deep voice filled with worry as he assumed his wife was not feeling well.
"Glades, I’m fine, it’s Rachel who is in trouble. Call Hansen quickly; I don’t have his mobile number. Tell him Rachel is by the roadside in XX Town and that he needs to pick her up fast. She will explain the reason to him later. Glades, our attempt to help Rachel... has been very unsuccessful. I hope she’s alright."
Glades furrowed his brows. How could things have ended up like this?
Hearing the worry in his wife’s voice, he quickly soothed her, "Julia, don’t worry. Even if your friend falls to the ends of the earth, I’ll be able to bring her back. Don’t stress; your body can’t handle too much excitement right now."
"Then hurry up and call your Chief Special Assistant," Julia said, her mind far from the mood for romantic exchanges.
"Alright."
Knowing how worried Julia was, Glades immediately called Hansen Ruiz and informed him of Rachel’s whereabouts.
When Hansen heard "XX Town," his expression turned dark.
He had already passed that town; he was an hour’s drive beyond it.
Without a second thought, he turned the car around and reversed his route for the second time.
Fortunately, it was only an hour’s drive this time.
That ungrateful woman! he thought. If I don’t punish her severely, I’m not Hansen Ruiz!
No matter how many difficulties or problems, he was there to solve them. What was the need for her impulsiveness? Did she think that by running to his house she could prevent the conflict between him and his mother? That would only make his mother dislike her even more.
Even if her impulsiveness was out of concern for him, he was pleased by that; it proved she wasn’t truly indifferent towards him. But still...
Rachel stood by the roadside, intently watching the passing cars, hoping to spot the familiar yet previously unwanted Land Rover.
She had never hated Hansen Ruiz. Her unwillingness to accept his feelings was due to her lack of confidence in herself and in him. Just as Julia had said, she was indeed insecure. Even though she appeared strong in other aspects, when it came to her emotions, she still felt intimidated.
But it wasn’t really her fault, right? Who could blame her when Hansen Ruiz came with such a noble pedigree? If he were just working for the Valence Group, the pressure on her wouldn’t be so immense.
After everything that happened yesterday and today, she realized she was actually used to Hansen Ruiz’s presence. Accepting his love was not hard at all.
The sky fluctuated with people’s moods, sometimes gloomy, sometimes brimming with smiles.
The temperature was still quite low, around twelve degrees, but the wind had died down. Without wind, it didn’t feel so cold anymore.
Waiting always seems to make time crawl.
Her feet grew tired from standing.
Eventually, she simply squatted down by the roadside.
After squatting for a few minutes, she felt even more tired than standing and rose to her feet once more.
She had once heard that if a woman could squat for a long time, it meant her mother-in-law treated her well; if not, then the opposite. Of course, this had no scientific basis. But at that moment, Rachel, who couldn’t squat for long, felt there was some truth to it. If she really got together with Hansen Ruiz, given Alwin Ruiz’s snobbish personality, she was sure to be treated harshly.
After standing again for over ten minutes, Rachel squatted down once more.
Passersby in their cars couldn’t resist glancing at her as they drove by.
She wondered, Do I look very disheveled right now?
She didn’t know how much time had passed. Without her phone, she couldn’t check the time.
At long last, that Land Rover stopped beside her.
Hansen Ruiz opened the car door and leaped out quickly.
