CHAPTER 85: CHAPTER 85 WEDDING (4)_1

The grand wedding entourage was headed towards the Emperor Hotel.

Ignoring the fact that she had just infuriated Hansen Ruiz, Rachel Bailey swiftly lifted her dress. She walked over to his car, pulled open his door, quickly got in, and then slammed the door shut with a loud BANG.

Hansen Ruiz chuckled. "Miss Bailey, I kindly invited you into my car. Please be a bit more gentle, will you? This car is worth millions."

"Sorry, my hand slipped." Rachel Bailey stuck out her tongue at him.

Hansen Ruiz shook his head and smiled. This feisty little woman is actually quite straightforward, he thought.

"Hey, start driving! I’m the bridesmaid and can’t fall behind," Rachel Bailey urged, glaring at him when she saw he still hadn’t started the car.

Hansen Ruiz immediately pressed the accelerator, and the car moved forward. He responded, "Don’t worry, it won’t just be you falling behind; I’m the groomsman. By the way, my name isn’t ’Hey.’ My surname is Ruiz, and my given name is Hansen. You can call me Mr. Ruiz."

"I don’t remember," Rachel Bailey replied nonchalantly. She had no interest in him and therefore didn’t bother to remember his name; even if he said it ten times, she would still forget.

"Never mind. Let’s pretend I never said anything," Hansen Ruiz said, his smile growing wider. "When dealing with someone who has such a severe case of selective amnesia, I should save my breath."

He found this increasingly amusing.

"My amnesia is selective. For instance, if it were that Coffin-Face’s name, I guarantee I’d remember it after hearing it just once."

Upon hearing this, Hansen Ruiz deliberately let his handsome face fall into an extremely wounded expression. "I, the Head Assistant of Valence Group, am less captivating than that Coffin-Face?"

"Of course, he’s much more... wait a second, who did you say you are?" Rachel Bailey suddenly turned and stared intently at Hansen Ruiz.

Thinking his title had impressed her, Hansen Ruiz cleared his throat and deliberately enunciated, "Hansen Ruiz, Head Assistant of Valence Group."

"So you’re the one who told all the companies that whoever could offer me an accounting job would get to discuss business with Valence Group?" Rachel Bailey now remembered Hansen Ruiz’s name. That day, he had caused her such a ridiculous mess! He’d gotten her chased by a crowd, and in the end, she’d had no choice but to flag down that Coffin-Face’s police car, only to get scolded by him. And this very person was now sitting right beside her!

Hansen Ruiz, who was always composed no matter the situation, suddenly felt a little flustered under Rachel Bailey’s questioning gaze.

"Yes, it was me. What about it? Do you want to thank me? There’s no need. I was just following the CEO’s orders," Hansen Ruiz said, a touch arrogantly.

"Thank you?" Rachel Bailey gritted her teeth. He should try being surrounded, blocked, chased, and harassed by phone calls from a whole mob of people!

"Hey, what’s with that expression? I was just following orders, you know. If you want to settle scores or express gratitude, go find the person who actually gave the order." Hansen Ruiz, who had never found anything problematic about being an Assistant, was tasting its bitterness for the first time.

"The Young Master did that because he dotes on my friend Julia. Why would I go looking for him?"

"Then what does that have to do with me? I was simply following instructions." Hansen Ruiz felt he had truly become a scapegoat. He also found Rachel Bailey utterly unreasonable, like someone who just barges ahead recklessly. Besides, her heart was particularly biased.

Moreover, he didn’t think there was anything wrong with what happened. At most, it just meant Rachel Bailey would be pursued by companies, begging her to return and be treated like a God of Wealth. Was that so bad? It was like being a celebrity, with people chasing you wherever you go.

"You’re driving right now, so I won’t deal with you for the time being. But if I run into you again, I’ll settle this score," Rachel huffed.

"A sage once said, ’In this world, only petty people and women are difficult to deal with.’ Your heart, little woman, is truly unfathomable!" Hansen Ruiz chuckled softly.

Naturally, this earned him another sideways glare from Rachel.

He smiled, shrugged, and changed the subject, not wanting to be verbally sparred into submission by this girl again.

The wedding reception at the Emperor Hotel was also a private affair. Apart from the relatives of both families, the only ones who could be considered outsiders were Hansen Ruiz and Rachel Bailey.

The two of them had arrived last at the Emperor Hotel, and in the same car. He was the groomsman, and she was the bridesmaid. Furthermore, Rachel Bailey had just caught Julia Bluen’s bridal bouquet. So, when they reached the Emperor Hotel, others started looking at them with knowing, suggestive glances, making Hansen Ruiz chuckle inwardly.

He had lived for thirty-five years; what kind of beauty hadn’t he seen? Yet, not one had managed to move his heart, which appeared gentle but was actually as hard as steel. For a woman like Rachel Bailey, whom you could find a dime a dozen on the streets, to become his woman? That was just a daydream.

The wedding banquet continued, and time passed.

「Before long, night had fallen.」

After a whirlwind of a day, the newlyweds finally returned to Glades Horne’s master bedroom, which had been redecorated as their bridal chamber. Julia Bluen was so exhausted that the moment she sat on the bed, she flopped backward.

Her face was flushed from the little alcohol she’d had, and her eyes held a somewhat hazy look.

"Drunk?" Glades first took off his suit jacket, then lay down, half-turned towards her on the bed, asking with concern, "You can’t hold your liquor well. You get drunk easily from strong alcohol."

"Mhm, I only had a couple of small sips, and my head started spinning. It’s a good thing we’re home. Otherwise, passing out at the wedding reception would have been too embarrassing," Julia Bluen said softly, rubbing her slightly aching forehead. Her voice, a mixture of coyness and complaint, made Glades’s heart melt.

He reached out, gently pulled Julia Bluen into his arms, and then sat up, holding her so she could lean against him. He lowered his head, his gaze locking onto her flushed, lovely face. A smile filled with intense desire touched his lips as he murmured, "What day is it today?"

What day? Isn’t it our wedding day? Has he forgotten?

Julia Bluen tilted her head up from his embrace, looking at him and giggling. "Glades, you must be the one who’s drunk. You say I’m drunk, but you’re the one who’s truly intoxicated. Look at you, so drunk you can’t even remember what day it is. Today was our wedding day. It was so tiring! It seems getting married isn’t all that fun."
