CHAPTER 95: CHAPTER 95 LOVE, HEAVY AS A MOUNTAIN (3)_1

Ruby Bluen seemed thoughtful. Marcel Horne was indeed a man who was cold on the inside but warm on the outside.

Listening to Andrew Carter’s words only strengthened Ruby’s determination in her pursuit. She believed that one day, Marcel would let go of everything and accept her.

Although they were newlyweds, his grandmother hoped the young couple would stay home and rest, allowing Julia, the new bride, to get to know relatives and friends better. However, in the evening, Glades Horne still took Julia Bluen by the hand and walked away from the Horne Family’s grand villa.

The Golden Kirin Garden wasn’t very far from the Haoting Garden; it was merely more luxuriously built than the villas there.

A broad road snaked from the entrance of the garden deep into its heart, flanked by lush green trees. Luxury villas were dotted around, each with its own small path connecting to the main road.

The entire Golden Kirin Garden boasted hills and water features, lawns, entertainment venues, and rest areas. Each detail and scene was meticulously designed. Upon stepping inside, the sights were breathtaking. The luxury didn’t detract from the natural beauty; instead, an inherent dignity emanated from the natural surroundings. No wonder it was called Golden Kirin.

At the garden’s entrance stood a large fountain, with paths on either side. Residents could enjoy the fountain’s varied shapes every day as they came and went. At times, the water flowed gently, reminiscent of a stream beneath a small bridge; at others, it surged impressively, like a mighty mountain waterfall.

Even the streetlamps along the path cast a particularly gentle glow.

"Don’t you ever get bored staying at home all day?" Glades Horne asked thoughtfully, turning his head to look at the charming woman beside him as they walked.

Julia Bluen smiled. "It’s fine. We grew up in this kind of environment, so we’re used to it. Grandma’s enthusiasm, however, is a bit much for me. After dinner, she actually suggested we go to bed early." The old lady acts as if she wishes we’d spend all twenty-four hours a day in bed!

Glades Horne chuckled softly. His grandmother was indeed hoping to hold a great-grandchild soon. "Grandma is eager for a great-grandchild," he said.

Julia Bluen chuckled to herself. Seriously? She had only just... How could she possibly get pregnant so quickly? Even if she and Glades were to stay in bed all day, pregnancy still required a process. Besides, she wasn’t planning to get pregnant so soon.

She wanted to wait until she found her sister and understood her reason for fleeing the marriage before even considering pregnancy. Furthermore, she hadn’t forgotten her dowry—those subsidiaries from the Valence Group transferred to her name, and the chain stores she had yet to take over. A woman, even after marriage, couldn’t just abandon her career. Especially not her, a modern woman who had always valued her independence. She could be a devoted wife and mother, but that would be alongside her career, not in place of it. She couldn’t imagine staying home all day as an idle young mistress.

Watching her mother-in-law, Mila Anderson, spend her days either shopping or playing cards with friends, Julia found that kind of life to be the epitome of boredom. Even though she knew the life of a high-society lady was mostly like that, she found it unfulfilling.

"Glades, let’s not have children for now," Julia Bluen suggested, turning her head to look at Glades Horne.

Glades Horne stopped walking, his expression darkened, his gaze becoming inscrutable once more. He stared steadily at Julia Bluen, his lips tightly pursed. It was impossible to tell if he was angry or contemplating something else.

"I think we need more time to cultivate our feelings," Julia Bluen said, uneasy under his gaze, but she still met his eyes and voiced her thoughts.

Glades Horne remained silent, still intently observing her. She spoke; he listened.

After Julia Bluen finished expressing her thoughts, he finally parted his lips and said, "Let nature take its course." He wouldn’t force her to become a mother early, nor would he actively try to avoid it. Everything was up to fate.

Julia Bluen pursed her lips but didn’t say anything else. Fine, let nature take its course then,

she conceded internally. She trusted that fate would be kind and not rush her into motherhood.

By the time Marcel Horne rushed to the Military District hospital, it was already past ten o’clock the next morning.

He looked exhausted. His lips were chapped by the harsh wind, and dark circles rimmed his sharp eyes, making him appear as if he hadn’t slept for days.

His military uniform, though still neat, was clearly the one he had worn the previous day.

He had led his men into an area struck by a sandstorm, going to great lengths to find the disoriented civilians. He then guided them out of the sandstorm’s range and ensured they were safe before returning to camp. He had risen around four that morning and rushed to the Military District hospital, operating on less than four hours of sleep.

Ruby Bluen had improved significantly; her fever was completely gone today.

After sleeping through the entire previous night due to the fever, she woke up looking much more energetic.

She kept her gaze fixed on the ward door, anxiously awaiting Marcel’s arrival.

When she saw Marcel Horne enter with a basket of fruit, she immediately sat up, intending to get out of bed. "Marcel, are you okay?" she asked, her voice laced with worry. Having grown up in the south, she had never witnessed a sandstorm. She’d seen one on television once and found it terrifying. When Andrew Carter told her Marcel had gone to rescue people lost in a sandstorm, she had been incredibly worried. But, battling her own cold, she had been helpless, able only to sleep fitfully.

"Lie down." The moment Marcel Horne saw her trying to get out of bed, even before he had fully entered the room, he ordered habitually.

He quickly strode forward, gently pushed her back down onto the bed, and said with a stern face, his tone cold, "You’re sick. You should be resting more."

"Marcel, are you okay?" Ruby Bluen chose to ignore his cold demeanor, concerned only for his well-being.

"Could I be standing here if something was wrong?" Marcel Horne responded irritably. He sat on the edge of the bed, his large hand reaching out to feel Ruby Bluen’s forehead. Her skin was no longer burning hot as it had been the day before, and his expression softened slightly.

"I’m sorry," Ruby Bluen suddenly apologized softly.

Marcel Horne’s brows twitched. He glared at her. "You’re not suited to life here," he stated. "After you recover, I’ll buy you a plane ticket and send you back myself. That special day has passed. You can’t keep evading reality. You have to go back and face it—face my older brother."
