Chapter 119 [Like Hell] (6300 words)
Chen Yan opened the door, then quickly stepped out of the room into the hallway, closing the door behind him and locking it.
The hallway of the Mirror World was empty, everything mirrored the real world exactly, just with the orientation reversed.
On the floor, there were still traces of blood left from when the Warrior Armored Guest had been dragged away. After nearly ten hours, the bloodstains had darkened and were no longer bright red.
Although Chen Yan was certain there were no people or monsters in the Mirror World, he still carefully watched his surroundings in the hallway—during the day, the ever-changing zombie creature had left a deep impression of dread in his heart.
Fortunately, there were some reflective surfaces in the hallway: picture frames hanging on the walls and a window at the end of the hallway. These mirrors barely outlined the hallway in the Mirror World.
At night, the hallway lights were on, casting an eerie yellow glow. This left the visibility in the hallway rather low—there were some completely dark areas in corners and edges.
These were angles the mirrors couldn’t reach—Chen Yan cautiously avoided these places, keeping his distance.
As he walked to the stairs in the middle of the hallway, he stood by a picture frame on the wall, forming a mirror.
Chen Yan stared into the picture frame, observing the real world.
Suddenly! A face suddenly appeared in the frame!
The face was as stiff as a corpse, but with a hint of sinister malice in its brows! It was the same zombie monster he had seen through the peephole during the day!
The sudden appearance of the face in the frame startled Chen Yan, making him instinctively take a step back.
But he quickly calmed down—it was just the real world, where the zombie monster happened to be standing in front of the picture frame—like looking in a mirror.
The zombie monster stared at the picture frame, seemingly looking into a mirror, turning its head left and right. It then bared its sharp, black teeth and twisted its mouth into a stiff yet sinister smile.
Then, it slowly walked away.
Chen Yan quietly walked back to the picture frame, observing through the mirror.
In the hallway of the real world, the zombie monster, shrouded in black mist, slowly moved to the side, beyond the frame’s reflective angle.
Chen Yan stood in silence for a moment, then slowly descended the stairs to the banquet hall from earlier.
The hall still had the four diamond-shaped lanterns lit, barely illuminating the space—the glass doors on some of the surrounding cabinets created the hall’s Mirror World.
In the empty hall, a few tables were still set up. As Chen Yan walked down, he suddenly saw two figures in the center of the hall!
Two Puppet Servants in black clothing!
His heart jumped in shock, and his body trembled!
Chen Yan’s body stiffened instantly, but after standing still for a few seconds, seeing that the two Puppet Servants remained motionless in the center of the hall, his heart began to calm down.
He slowly walked to the center of the hall, approaching the two puppets, studying them carefully.
The two puppets stood solemnly, their hands hanging at their sides, their heads slightly lowered.
They didn’t move...
Chen Yan thought for a moment and understood.
Puppets, they aren’t alive.
Essentially, their bodies were inanimate.
They had no life, no Spiritual Sense. The fact that they could walk and talk was more like robots with pre-programmed instructions—that was probably the gist of it.
In the Mirror World, they were inanimate.
After figuring this out, Chen Yan felt a sense of relief, circling the puppets twice, observing them thoroughly but finding no valuable clues.
The black outfits the puppets wore looked like ordinary black fabric, rough to the touch.
Chen Yan couldn’t quite identify the materials of their bodies. It wasn’t metal as it lacked the cold feel of metal, instead having a warmth reminiscent of wood, though it was obviously much tougher than wood.
On one side of the hall, there was a cabinet resembling a wine cabinet. Chen Yan walked over to look inside, seeing various vessels, including some glass and porcelain, and a few bottles that looked like wine.
Through the glass doors of the cabinet, he could see what the real world looked like.
Glancing briefly, Chen Yan noted no abnormalities in the real world’s hall: the two Puppet Servants still stood in the center, seemingly in a state of dormancy.
Finding nothing unusual, Chen Yan decided to head towards the door, bypassing the screen at the entrance, standing before the hall’s door.
The first floor door was closed. Chen Yan gently pushed open the door and stepped into the yard.
The yard wasn’t very small, and the surrounding walls weren’t very high—typical of Japanese buildings, the wall height was such that Chen Yan could see over the yard by standing on tiptoe.
At this moment, there was still some light in the yard—though there were no lights in the yard, the light coming through the first-floor door and the windows of guest rooms on the second floor formed the Mirror World’s yard.
Chen Yan walked to the gate, which was also closed. He hesitated slightly, then reached out to grasp the handle.
But just as Chen Yan was about to push open the gate forcefully, a strong sense of warning surged in his heart!
