CHAPTER 150: SOMETHING WENT TERRIBLY WRONG!

Sophia jolted awake as the car violently shook.

"Jaxon, what’s going on?!"

"Miss Morgan, we’re surrounded!"

They were on a nearby expressway. Jaxon gripped the steering wheel, trying desperately to keep control.

Sophia’s brows knit tightly. She glanced outside just in time to see another vehicle slam toward them—hard.

The entire car trembled. Sophia steadied herself.

"Jaxon, can you break through?!"

She could now clearly see the situation outside—three cars in total were hunting them down.

It seemed Olivia’s little visit yesterday, with all that fake concern, was nothing but a distraction for today’s ambush.

"Miss Morgan, I don’t have full confidence, but I will protect you with my life!"

Jaxon checked the side mirror and suddenly swerved, forcing the car through the blockade—for a moment, it almost worked.

But the vehicles behind them accelerated again, even more ferocious than before. These people were hell-bent on making sure Sophia never left that highway alive.

"Miss Morgan, is this one of your enemies?! Who’s trying to kill you?!"

"I don’t know. Get out of here quickly.!"

Sophia’s heartbeat grew unsteady. With how these attackers drove, she was certain—they would not stop until she was dead.

She grabbed her phone to send a message, but before she could hit send, something smashed into them from the side—hard.

Her phone slipped straight under the seat.

"Miss Morgan, watch out!"

Their car was armored and powerful, but the attackers didn’t care about their own lives either.

Sophia clenched her jaw.

"Get off this road, now!"

Before, she hadn’t noticed. But now she realized—there were no other vehicles around them at all.

Every car here belonged to the ambushers. The road had been cleared just for this attack.

Sophia held tighter to the handle with one hand and reached down to grab her phone with the other. But just as she bent forward, the surrounding cars suddenly closed in—pressing them from both sides and blocking them from moving at all.

In front of them was nothing but a steep downhill slope.

Sophia made her decision instantly.

"Jump. If we stay in the car, we’ll die when it goes over."

Beside that slope was a cliff.

"Miss Morgan, I—"

"No time. Your life matters. I won’t blame you."

She looked to the other side of the car, preparing herself to jump at the right second.

Jaxon unbuckled his seat belt.

But just as he was about to move, one of the pursuers rolled down a window—and aimed a gun.

The barrel pointed directly at Sophia.

"Miss Morgan!"

Jaxon threw himself forward, shielding her—

BANG!

The gunshot rang out. Sophia’s eyes widened as hot blood splattered across her cheek, burning her skin like fire.

The car lurched out of control, tires screeching, and suddenly—

They were airborne.

In the split second before the world went silent, Sophia managed to grab her phone. With the last strength in her trembling fingers, she pressed the voice message button.

"Lucas... I love you."

Then—

BOOM!

The vehicle flipped down the slope, metal twisting, glass shattering.

High above on the cliff, the attackers stopped their cars, stepped out, and stared down.

When the explosion thundered through the canyon, they smiled—mission accomplished—then turned and left without hesitation.

At that very moment, Lucas shot up from his office chair, breath frozen in his chest. He didn’t bother to hide anything from Jacob—he hit play on the voice message.

On the other end, he heard chaos, crashing metal, and his wife’s rushed voice, terrified but still steady:

"Lucas, I love you."

And then—

BOOM.

The sound that tore his world apart.

Lucas’s expression changed instantly—completely.

Something had happened to Sophia.

He grabbed his jacket and headed for the door, but Jacob suddenly spoke up:

"Mr. Hilton, we haven’t finished our discussion. Where exactly do you think you’re going?

And more importantly, if our cooperation succeeds, do you realize how much we both stand to gain?

Win-win is the foundation of business—you know that.

Yet you plan to leave me here and walk out alone?"

Lucas’s voice was ice-cold:

"I have urgent matters to handle. If Mr. Brown doesn’t wish to reschedule, then our cooperation ends here."

If it weren’t for this meeting, he would’ve personally taken her to the airport.

If anything—even the slightest thing—happened to her...

He would never forgive Jacob.

Lucas strode out, giving Jacob no chance to stop him.

Suddenly—

"Breaking news: a severe crash and vehicle plunge has occurred on Highway 125..."

The moment Lucas heard it, his face went deathly pale.

By the time he arrived at the crash site, the entire area was blocked off.

"Mr. Hilton, you can’t go down there! It’s still dangerous! The vehicle already exploded once! There may be a second explosion!"

"Get out of my way!"

Lucas’s eyes were bloodshot, feral, as if he could tear apart anyone who stood between him and that cliff.

Then he saw the wreckage below.

His face drained of all color—he collapsed on the spot.

"Mr. Hilton!"

Alex rushed to catch him.

"Call an ambulance! Hurry!"

...

When Lucas opened his eyes again, an entire day and night had passed.

The first words out of his mouth:

"Did you find her? Was it her?"

Alex lowered his gaze, voice heavy:

"Mr. Hilton... I’m sorry. As cruel as it is, we have confirmed that it was Miss Morgan’s vehicle that went over the cliff.

The car exploded. There were... almost no remains left.

The likelihood of survival is extremely low."

Lucas’s fist tightened until his knuckles turned white.

He wanted to speak—but no words came out.

Alex continued, steady and rational:

"Miss Morgan checked the vehicle before departure. I highly suspect someone tampered with it.

This may not have been an accident. I’ve already started acquiring surveillance footage."

Alex couldn’t afford panic—not when Lucas was one step away from breaking entirely.

Mr. Hilton had never loved a woman before.

And the moment he finally did... she was taken from him in the cruelest way.

No one knew what kind of heartless monster would force a car off a mountain road like that.

Lucas shut his eyes, struggling to control the storm inside his chest.

No body found didn’t necessarily mean the worst.

No news could still be good news.

He needed to stay cold, sharp—awake.

Sophia’s accident happened at the exact time Damien warned him about.

That meant one thing:

Damien might know everything.

Lucas’s eyes snapped open.

His voice was deep and lethal:

"Send everyone. Find Sophia—no matter what it takes."
