CHAPTER 407: SUBSTITUTE BRIDE OF THE DEMON KING (11)

Yue Ran then took a bowl of ready-made warm and creamy mushroom soup— its rich aroma wafting up enticingly— from there and went straight to the study of the Demon King.

There must be a reason to meet someone, and this bowl of warm creamy mushroom soup is it.

With the bowl in hand, Yue Ran navigated along the grand halls of the castle, the sound of her footsteps echoing softly against the marble floors. Soon, she approached the heavy double doors that marked the entrance to the Demon King’s study. Unfortunately, she found herself blocked by a pair of imposing guards stationed outside, their stern expressions making it clear that entry would not be granted. Her plan to enter the study was thwarted.

Yue Ran could not go in. If she could not go in, she could only find a way to get the male protagonist out.

As Yue Ran contemplated her next move, Silas sat within the confines of his study, the flickering candlelight casting a warm glow over the ornate furnishings. He was immersed in his thoughts, diligently writing on parchment with an extravagant quill that featured a striking blood-red ruby embedded in its handle.

The tranquility of his writing did not last long and was abruptly interrupted by the faint sounds of chatter filtering through the closed doors, drawing his attention away from the document before him.

"Can I really not go in? I am here to see the Demon King. Is the Demon King not inside? Why are you two so silent? Does your silence mean a yes?"

Seeing that no one was paying attention to her, Yue Ran simply let herself go and started chatting with the guards outside the doors, her voice filling the air with a lively cadence. However, Yue Ran was the only one who did the talking. The two guards, positioned in their formal attire, stood like sentinels, their postures rigid and alert. They did not deign to even glance at her.

Silas, inside the room, was becoming increasingly exasperated. He could not stand the chatter; it was too noisy.

All he heard in his ears was "the Demon King this," and "the Demon King that." It was irritating.

He burst through the door with a palm from his seat. His palm thrust forward as if directing an unseen force. With a crackling energy surrounding him, a powerful gust of magical wind erupted from his hand, instantly demolishing the double doors. The sound of splintering wood echoed through the air, but strikingly, the attack did not carry any murderous intent.

Yue Ran had just blinked. Everything happened so quickly. The next thing she realized was— in the blink of an eye, the once-imposing double doors were reduced to a shower of jagged fragments raining down onto the floor.

"Who asked you to come here?"

The moment the doors were blown apart, Yue Ran had nimbly hidden herself behind a standing guard by instinct— the immediate instinct to protect herself from any chaos. Once the noise of destruction ceased, she poked her head out from the open space that could look into the room and asked, "Are you angry?"

The question hung in the air with unspoken tension as Yue Ran awaited the male protagonist’s response.

Silas stared at her coldly, "If you do not want to die, leave here."

Noisy, annoying, and full of chatter.

Leila is merely a substitute. If she is not obedient enough, then there is no reason for her to exist.

Yue Ran did not leave. She simply blinked twice and looked into the study fearlessly. Not only was she not afraid, but there seemed to be some joy in her eyes.

"Your Majesty... Then I will come in."

How should one describe this scene? Silas is a very obsessive and domineering man. When he did not kill her the first time, it indicated that he did not want to kill her for the time being. In other words, Yue Ran is safe at this time.

Besides, if the male protagonist was truly annoyed, the magical wind that came out of his palm just now would have killed her; there was no need to waste extra effort to warn her. It could be seen that the male protagonist was a person who said one thing but meant another.

Through much experience, Yue Ran knew that there existed a kind of person who obviously showed that they did not dislike the hustle and bustle, and enjoyed solitude more. On the surface, they refused to allow others to approach them, but in their hearts, they still longed for friends.

This type of person was very contradictory. However, upon deeper analysis of their psychology, it was likely rooted in cowardice. They are afraid of contact with others, afraid of losing, and even more afraid of getting hurt, so they simply wrap themselves tightly with a cold exterior.

Silas was the worst among them. He wanted others to be afraid of him yet did not truly desire for everyone to fear him. He was even crazier and more cruel; if he did not agree with someone, he would probably initiate a killing spree. To deal with such a contradictory and passive individual like him, one would need to sharpen the blunt knife slowly.

"Husband— I mean, Your Majesty, I am here to bring you food," Yue Ran said. She then presented the bowl of creamy mushroom soup from the kitchen in her hand to the male protagonist like a treasure and smiled sweetly at him, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

The young woman was simply jumping back and forth on the edge of the minefield.

Silas sneered and said, "Are you really not afraid of death?"

After saying that, he unleashed his anger by toppling the bowl with a violent motion. The bowl overturned with great force and its contents scattered far away. The bowl collided with the wall, resulting in a sharp, resounding crash that echoed through the room.
