CHAPTER 409: SUBSTITUTE BRIDE OF THE DEMON KING (13)
With a flick of his wrist, Silas snatched the wooden sculpture from Yue Ran’s grasp and, without the slightest hint of remorse, hurled it out of the window.
The sound of it crashing somewhere outside the palace with a soft thump brought an unexpected wave of relief coursing through him. He wanted to vent out all the resentment he had suffered from Ellie on Leila, whom he deemed a mere impostor.
He just wanted this person to taste his original bitter feelings. He reveled in the notion of Leila enduring the bitterness that had felt because of Ellie. He wanted to see how far this woman could pretend. Anyway, he was reluctant to blame Ellie for all those things so the woman in front of him could replace Ellie and bear all his malice. He had no qualms about using her as a vessel for his resentment.
In his eyes, she was a substitute, nothing more than a pawn in a game where her humanity was irrelevant. She had willingly stepped into the role of a stand-in, and thus, she had forfeited her right to any semblance of respect. A substitute must not be treated as a human since they voluntarily want to become a substitute themselves.
Silas looked at Yue Ran with malicious intent, a shimmer of malice sparking within his eyes. He raised his hand and pointed dismissively in the direction of the hall.
"If you’re so keen on it, go ahead and retrieve it yourself," he sneered, a cruel smile creeping onto his face. "If you find it and pick it up, it is yours."
A look of disgust twisted his features, reflecting his disdain for the thought of anyone, especially Leila, taking possession of something Ellie had deemed worthless.
It is a disgrace to keep the defective items thrown away by his sweetheart.
Silas was selfish and biased to the core. Even if Ellie discarded the things she did not want, he would not allow any random cats and dogs to touch them.
Sure enough, this was precisely the kind of twisted thing that the deranged male protagonist was capable of doing. His intentions were clear: he wanted to tease her while simultaneously humiliating her at the same time. After all, he did not treat her as a human being at all.
To him, Yue Ran was more than just a person; she was an object of amusement, a tool for his own twisted satisfaction. In his eyes, Ellie stood apart, regarded as a human being deserving of affection and tenderness, while everyone else, including Yue Ran, was reduced to mere insects beneath his boot. They existed solely for him to crush under the weight of his contempt.
This mad dog male protagonist is truly perverted. He wants others (meaning Yue Ran alone) to feel the pain that he has suffered. Since he lives in a dark world, he would want to drown everyone else down into the abyss with him, except for his sweetheart, Ellie, of course.
Fortunately, Yue Ran possessed remarkable acting skills. At that moment, when confronted with his aggression, she played her part perfectly. Her surprise was artfully staged, a fleeting look of shock crossing her features before she swiftly regained her composure. Her starry eyes looked at him quietly, and she spoke softly, "Are you angry, Your Majesty? Is it because I do not remember you that you feel the need to treat me like this?"
Silas responded with a smile that dripped with sarcasm, his voice laced with disdain. "Do not flatter yourself," he retorted sharply.
Who does she think she is? What did she think she was to him? Did she genuinely believe he harbored any feelings for her? In his twisted world, where power reigned supreme, there was only one person deserving of his attention, and that was Ellie.
This fake is quite thick-skinned.
After being ridiculed, Yue Ran was not at all angry. If she was, then she did not show it on her face. The young woman simply smiled brightly at the other party and said, "If I find it, will it be mine?"
Silas sneered and nodded, a flash of blatant disdain in his eyes. "Of course."
Yue Ran tilted her head, pursed her lips, and smiled at him, cute dimples appearing on her cheeks. "Then, Your Majesty, you are not allowed to go back on your word."
Silas thought: even if he does not keep his word, so what? What can she do to him?
After Yue Ran finished speaking, she trotted all the way to the outside of the palace. Silas raised his eyelids and looked at the other party’s back. Since this woman is willing to act foolish, he would watch how foolish she could be.
In fact, Yue Ran had already contacted Ruan Ruan in her mind. The wood carving was indeed thrown into the garden outside the castle by the scum male protagonist. She could find it immediately through the system positioning, but that would be a pointless endeavor for her strategy in winning Silas’s affection.
What Yue Ran wanted to aim for was when the scum male protagonist saw the wooden figure in the future; he would regret it. He would regret ever treating her badly. After all, who told him to act so much like a bastard now?
"Where is the wooden figure?" Yue Ran spoke to herself as she searched around outside the castle walls to where the garden was. "It should be nearby..."
The huge flower garden was overgrown with weeds that were as high as a foot. The edges of the wild plants were sharp and could easily scratch people’s skin, particularly on Yue Ran’s delicate complexion. The air was thick with the buzzing of mosquitoes and the rustle of unseen insects that occasionally swooped down to take a bite from her exposed arms and legs.
As Yue Ran navigated through this wild landscape, she groped around cautiously, her hands brushing against the prickly foliage.
