Quick Transmigration: Underdog Turns out to be Untouchable
Chapter 238 Original Sin 47
CHAPTER 238: CHAPTER 238 ORIGINAL SIN 47
Wan Yan felt that Shuangshuang was very steady, but in fact, only Shuangshuang herself knew that she had actually been on edge all along. The weight of two people was not easy to bear, but she had to appear relaxed and at ease, for fear that the Wan Yan on her back would feel nervous and scared!
When people are tense, their bodies will involuntarily show some reactions, such as instinctively holding tightly onto something that makes them feel safe.
Shuangshuang was now hanging in mid-air, a very dangerous and precarious position, without room for any mistakes. If Wan Yan, out of nervousness, suddenly clutched onto Shuangshuang tightly, it could affect her performance and lead to an accident!
Fortunately, Shuangshuang’s movements were very stable, calming Wan Yan even further. His body remained relaxed, and the situation Shuangshuang feared did not occur. Shuangshuang successfully carried Wan Yan up!
Crawling on the ground, Shuangshuang let out a big sigh of relief. This stretch had kept her nerves taut, but she finally made it up safely without incident.
From here on, it was easier. With Wan Yan tied to Shuangshuang’s body below the waist and his upper body secured by holding himself around her neck, Shuangshuang just needed to lean forward slightly and quickly make their way out. Her hands were free to part the branches and bushes blocking the path ahead.
Shuangshuang was moving rapidly along the route she had previously marked with her scent, so there was no risk of getting lost or taking a wrong turn. This was why Shuangshuang had the courage to venture into such a place alone to rescue Wan Yan.
Wan Yan lay on Shuangshuang’s back, feeling a bit dizzy. He felt hot and weak, as if the wound had worsened. Yet, seeing the trees swiftly passing by and feeling Shuangshuang’s quick pace, Wan Yan inexplicably felt no fear from the previous night’s stay in the woods, nor the hopelessness of falling into the canyon waiting to die. Instead, he felt an incredible peace of mind, trusting that Shuangshuang could bring him out alive!
Shuangshuang sensed that Wan Yan’s breath on the nape of her neck was hot. She stopped, raised her hand to feel Wan Yan’s forehead. Although it didn’t feel very hot to the touch, it wasn’t exactly cool either. In reality, Wan Yan was running a fever.
Earlier, to carry Wan Yan out, she had discarded her backpack and rope in the canyon below, but she did not discard the large bottle of sugar-salt water and had kept it with her.
Shuangshuang unscrewed the bottle cap, handed the sugar-salt water to Wan Yan to drink. Wan Yan’s hands were too weak to hold it, so Shuangshuang had to support the bottom of the cup for him. Wan Yan, with trembling hands, clung to the bottle, desperately gulping down the unpleasant-tasting sugar-salt water until more than half of it was consumed.
Shuangshuang screwed the bottle cap back on, then carried Wan Yan and continued rushing forward. Given Wan Yan’s worsening condition, Shuangshuang quickened her pace!
Wan Yan was not light, and as Shuangshuang carried him, she was fine initially, but gradually started to tire. However, Shuangshuang didn’t dare to stop, sensing Wan Yan’s condition was not improving.
Earlier, Wan Yan, on her back, would consciously hold tight around Shuangshuang’s neck to avoid falling off, but now his grip was weakening, and Shuangshuang had to lean forward to keep him from falling.
With this added effort, traveling became more strenuous for Shuangshuang. If it were flat land it would be easier, but the mountain path was rugged, with constant climbing and descending, especially exhausting. After crossing two mountains, Shuangshuang was almost at her limit.
She stopped to catch her breath, drank some sugar-salt water to replenish her energy, then gritted her teeth to continue running with Wan Yan on her back. Running on mountain roads consumed much more energy, but Shuangshuang had no choice. Wan Yan was slipping into a semi-conscious state, and they needed to get out immediately. Her rush was now a countdown, the countdown of Wan Yan’s life!
Luckily, Shuangshuang didn’t have to run much farther before, just as she was about to collapse from exhaustion, she finally encountered two paramilitary officers searching and rescuing. Shuangshuang was too exhausted to even speak, only able to gasp for breath!
The two paramilitary officers, seeing the person on Shuangshuang’s back, knew what to do without her saying a word. They quickly moved over and helped to unload the person on Shuangshuang’s back. While gasping for breath, Shuangshuang gestured to indicate that the person on her back had injuries requiring careful handling!
The officers acted swiftly but carefully, transferring Wan Yan to another officer’s back without pulling on his wounds, then sprinting out of the mountain, as fast as Shuangshuang.
Relieved of the burden, Shuangshuang almost collapsed onto the ground, trembling all over, gasping heavily. Before she could recover, she saw a military green figure crouch down in front of her.
Not fully comprehending what was happening, Shuangshuang found her hands grabbed and herself placed onto the other’s back. Then, Shuangshuang was being carried on the paramilitary officer’s back, racing out of the mountains at a quick pace.
Throughout the entire process, Shuangshuang was in a daze. She wasn’t even a casualty, yet she received such treatment! Exhausted as she was, the feeling of not having to walk was indeed very comfortable!
Shuangshuang was taken to a military tent where two military medics, dressed in green uniforms wearing white coats, were busy treating Wan Yan’s injuries, who had been brought in earlier.
Upon Shuangshuang’s arrival, a medic immediately came over to examine her. The diagnosis was that Shuangshuang was just severely fatigued and a bit depleted, with no major issues.
Just after her examination, Shuangshuang saw Li Ming and Feng Jingfeng burst in together. The dark circles under their eyes were even more pronounced, and their eyes were full of bloodshot. They rushed to Wan Yan’s side, continuously inquiring about his condition from the medics, paying no attention to anything else.
Sufficiently rested, Shuangshuang left the tent alone, planning to return to Red Dust. Upon exiting, she saw her mother, Feng Jinyan, hurrying towards her, having apparently just learned of her descent from the mountain.
Seeing Shuangshuang, Feng Jinyan quickened her pace, and immediately began checking Shuangshuang over for any injuries. Once reassured that Shuangshuang was unhurt, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Shuangshuang smiled at Feng Jinyan, a hint of coquettishness in her voice, "Mom, I’m hungry!"
Feng Jinyan lightly tapped Shuangshuang’s forehead, taking her hand to lead her back. "Let’s go home. What do you want to eat? Mom will make it for you."
"Hmm, I want the noodles stir-fried by mom! And grilled meat, I’m starving today!"
After a big meal and seeing that evening was approaching, with her mother Feng Jinyan attending to visitors, the utterly exhausted Shuangshuang collapsed into bed and slept deeply. By the time she awoke, it was already the next morning!
When Shuangshuang awakened, the paramilitary officers and villagers involved in the search and rescue had already left, along with Wan Yan, Li Ming, and Feng Jingfeng, who were nowhere to be seen.
