CHAPTER 441: KEEP LOOKING FOR HIM

"Layla, Nora is here to see you," Aiden informed her.

Layla moved her gaze from the desktop. "Please send her inside. Also, Aiden take these signed files with you," she said softly.

Aiden carried the files with him and as soon as he left, Nora walked in.

Layla stood up from the chair and motioned her hand toward the office sofa. "Please sit," she offered, sitting on the wide one.

Nora sat across from her and thanked her.

"I was going through your resume earlier," Layla said. "Lucius did tell me ongoing tensions happening between you and your colleagues. They don’t like the fact that Demitri and you are together," she added.

"Please don’t take any action against them. They don’t bully me. I suppose it’s common in workplaces for people to talk about relationships of certain people. Besides, I’ve already applied in another company," Nora stated.

Layla saw how tightly she had clasped her hands together.

"I mentioned that I saw your resume earlier. I am going to recommend your name to one of my business partners," Layla stated. "He recently started a company and is hiring staff people. He did ask me a week ago if I could recommend some trustworthy people. And today, suddenly I thought of your name," she explained.

Nora was astonished to hear that. "Layla, you..." She was unable to express how grateful she was feeling. "I–I don’t know if I’m even able to stand upto your expectations."

"We are friends. I mentioned to you before too that there was a time when I always searched for an opportunity so that I could prove my worth to the people around me. It was Lucius, who gave me the opportunity first, then my father-in-law. I think you can also go higher, you just need a better opportunity. That’s why you should consider that company," Layla stated. She then forwarded the card to Nora. "I’ll send them your name, rest you can give the interview to them. The early, the better."

Nora picked up the card and stared at her. "Is it company related to the food chain and hotels?" she questioned.

"Yes," Layla replied.

"Thank you. This means a lot for me, Layla," Nora stated with a warm smile.

They both heard a knock on the door and Lucius walked in. Seeing Nora, he was a bit surprised. She, on the other hand, quickly rose to her feet and greeted Lucius.

"I’ll come later," Lucius told Layla.

"I’m done, Sir," Nora said, glancing at Layla, who also had left the seat from the sofa. She again thanked Layla before leaving.

Lucius removed his hand from inside the pocket and approached Layla.

"Is your work over?" Lucius inquired.

"Yeah. Yours?" Layla held his hands, lowering her head.

"Of course, it’s over. Let’s go out for a movie date. I have bought two tickets," Lucius said, taking them out from the pocket of his blazer and showing them to her.

"That’s wonderful. We didn’t even go on a movie date for a while," she added. Her head rested against his chest.

"You alright?" Lucius’s hand moved to the back of her head.

"Yeah."

"If you’re tired, then we should go home," Lucius said.

"No, I’m not tired," Layla replied, looking at him. "We are going to go on short trip, so let’s shop too." She brushed up him to the desk and collected her items.

The phone in Lucius’s pants pocket buzzed and he took it out. A frown appeared on his forehead as he read the message.

"I’m ready. Let’s go!" Layla chimed in when Lucius quickly wore a calm expression on his face.

"Yeah, let’s go," Lucius said and left the office. As they stepped into the elevator, he pressed the ground floor’s button on the panel. He then took out his phone and responded to the message.

[Meet me in the evening. I’ll send you the address where.]

He slid the phone back into the pocket of his pants.

"What happened? Your mood seems off seeing that message," Layla said.

"It was related to a project," he lied, not wanting to trouble her.

"Are you sure?" asked Varya on the phone.

"Yes, Boss. I think Tsar escaped the fire. Though we recovered two bodies, but I checked the hospital records. The DNA of the second body didn’t match with Vladimir," the man from the other side.

Varya frowned and her grip on the phone tightened.

"Keep looking for him," Varya stated and hung up the call. She pressed her fingers on the temples of her forehead.

"If Tsar is alive, he’ll go after Layla and Lucius," Varya muttered. She stopped her thumb at Roger’s contact, but didn’t call him.

"I should let him come home first. After discussing it with him, we can tell Lucius about it," Varya murmured to herself.

Just then, her phone rang, and she jolted out of her thoughts. She answered Roger’s call and brought the device to her ear.

"Did you miss me?" Roger asked.

"What’s with your question?" Varya chuckled.

"Well, I’m missing you. I just finished the work. Do you want me to bring something from outside?" Roger inquired.

"No. Just come home," Varya said.

Though she wanted to hide her worry, Roger ended up realizing something was off with her.

"What happened? You sound low and worried," Roger said.

"Just come home. Then, I’ll tell you," Varya stated.

"Sure." Roger ended the call and slid into the car’s driver’s seat. He drove straight to home and upon arriving, he went straight to his apartment.

Pressing the doorbell, he waited for Varya to open the door.

A few seconds later, the door opened and he walked in, kissing Varya on the cheek.

Taking off his shoes, he followed Varya to the living room. As he settled his office bag on the couch, he asked, "Is everything alright? I was quite worried when I drove back home."

"Roger, I got a call from my trusted ally. I think Tsar didn’t die that day. He’s alive," Varya said with a worried gaze.
