Chapter 44: A blessing for a curse of love.
CHAPTER 44: A BLESSING FOR A CURSE OF LOVE.
Picking up the question leave Kara’s mouth, her first instinct was to leap up from the stone she was seated on.
There was a lot of hostility in the voice she heard. Kara could quite easily kill her if she wanted to, and from what she knew of her, it was something she could do.
There were often times she would catch glimpses of Kara studying at Veronica as if contemplating whether to kill her.
Seo decided to take a a hasty glance behind her before answering the question.
There, she could see Kara just hoping down at her, a calm look imprinted on her face, completely opposite from what she was expecting.
As such, it was best not to overreact, especially when the one doing the interrogating was this lull.
Although she had already intended to speak to Kara about it once she was back, Kara finding out on her own was not part of the plan.
Hence why Seo Yuna’s curiosity took charge.
"Did you leave the Plaza to stalk us?"
She didn’t look back, her eyes still concentrated on her burning marshmallow. Its alluring scent filled the air, adding a difference to the discomfort that was already brewing.
Slowly, Seo felt Kara’s grip relax from her shoulder, as if she was going somewhere.
She initially thought Kara was going to join her on the bench, but to her surprise, something else happened.
From nowhere, Kara lifted her blade and was fully ready to slice Seo’s head off.
The sound of the blade cutting through the air with force was the only thing that alerted Seo.
She acted instantaneously, shoving her marshmallow into her mouth before using her feet to push herself off the ground and roll away from the attack, while also avoiding getting scorched by the bonfire.
As soon as she was on the other side, she stood to her feet, her eyes catching a glimpse of what could have been her head.
Right there, on the rock where Seo was seated, Kara’s sword was already pricked halfway into it.
"Oh? I missed."
Kara’s eyes were glittering with something of madness and a hint of obsession as she violently pulled the blade from the stone.
Now taking a few steps back in order to create a wide enough distance, Seo Yuna was shocked to see that Kara had just tried to stab her on purpose.
"Did you just try to kill me?" she asked.
Kara stood still for a while, no smile, no frown, her eyes holding every emotion she felt in that moment.
"Did I try to kill you? That’s quite the question. I’m kind of shy to give an answer. Why don’t you come closer, let me show you."
Seo grated her teeth, waiting to see what Kara intended to do before making any move.
All it took was a single step, and Kara had already launched herself forward, her blade aimed directly at Seo Yuna.
Quickly, Seo summoned her blade as well, both clashing against one another in a test of strength.
"You want to kill me because I tried to take Jayhan? You think he’s not going to ask questions?" Seo pressed, trying to overpower Kara.
But in terms of strength, it was pretty obvious that Kara was far superior.
"You seduced him. That’s the only explanation. My darling isn’t the type to look at other women. You are obviously harming him; you have to go."
Seo felt her feet shaving against the ground as Kara was pushing her.
"Look, I agree, I shouldn’t have done that, but I intended on telling you... once you were done treating him."
Kara wasn’t listening; she had already clutched Seo by the neck, ready to crush the life out of her.
Then, Seo blurted,
"We didn’t have sex!"
Kara hesitated, staring at Seo with loathing.
"You engaged in sexual activity, did you not?"
"Yeah, but that was only because he was trying to help me. I had a curse on me at the moment. My desires were rampant; I couldn’t help myself."
Seeing that Kara was listening, she foiled her gaze and continued,
"I was the one who came on to him. I’m sorry. I was attracted to him. That said, I won’t deny the fact that I want him for myself as well."
"What?"
Seo responded just as swiftly, grabbing Kara by the neck and choking her too.
It was a stalemate.
"I am in love with Jayhan. As it stands, I don’t mind fighting you if it means I get to keep him by my side."
Throughout the entire discussion, Kara couldn’t help but carrying a disgusted and bitter look on her face.
"You were so quiet and reserved; I never viewed you as a threat. Veronica might have been, but she’s too shortsighted to know that. But you? You fooled me."
Seo managed to force a smile.
"I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t shocked myself. Still, I refuse to let him go, not without a fight."
Never in her life did she think she would do something like this over a man, especially one she had just met a few days ago.
She wasn’t sure why, but she knew if she lost him in that moment, she would never forgive herself.
No matter how weird it was to branch out of character, she was willing to do it for him; the burning desire in her chest willed it so.
Silence took over for a moment, both glancing at each other.
And then, saying nothing, Kara surrendered her grip on Seo, which caused Seo to do the same.
Though it was clear to see that Kara was unsettled, she still tried to hide it regardless.
"I really should have killed you while I had the chance," regret hitched in her voice. "A while back, I tried using my divine blessing and discovered what my curse was, except I didn’t know it was meant to be a curse."
She took a step back, her fingers sinking through her hair.
"I am cursed to watch the love of my life have multiple women chasing after him."
Seo stood there, utterly confused.
Did she hear her right?
Once your curse activates, it is like an instinct; you instantly know everything about it and what it does.
It was the reason many people went into hiding after knowing what their curses were. Some called it the punishment from the world.
If what Kara said was true...
"You think the reason I am in love with Jayhan is because of the curse your divine protector placed on you?"
"If I wanted to get rid of you, I would have done so. I have no reason to lie to you. I wish it wasn’t real."
"..."
Seo sighed, dazed, conviction plastered on her face.
Her love can’t be from the influence of a curse; that has to be false.
Since she first laid eyes on Jayhan, she had found him alluring, something she never considers from looking at other men.
With time, she saw him as more, and this only increased after a few days.
But the more she thought about it, the more she began to see how improbable it was.
Could she actually be this in love with someone she had only met for a couple of days? Was she affected by the curse?
Honestly, the better question was, does Seo really care if it was a curse or not?
For as long as she has been alive, she has wanted to have these feelings for someone, but she has never been attracted to any man to the point where she’d even fall in love with them.
Now that she has this... curse or not, she didn’t intend on letting it go.
"This whole thing has me confused already, and I’d be lying if I said I cared any less than I do right now. I don’t want to dwell on it. So, are you cool with me wanting Jayhan, or are you not cool with it?"
"Am I cool with you wanting my boyfriend?" Kara shot her a glance.
Seo said nothing; her entire mind was infatuated on what Kara’s response would be.
Kara finally replied,
"I know my darling; he never does anything without thinking it through, so I’m sure he knew I’d know about this, just the same way I know he chose to add you and weird anime boy to the group because you both are a key factor in his plan. I don’t want to rob him of that; it’s my curse, not his," she paused.
"Which is why I can’t kill you, not yet at least—"
"I don’t mind settling for his concubine," Seo chimed in.
Kara’s jaw dropped.
"You’re not even trying to hide it anymore."
"That’s how serious I am..."
Kara sighed, "This is too much for me to handle."
She peered up at the sky. "If I said I’m not happy my boyfriend will be famous amongst women, I’d be lying. That said, you and Veronica are the only two I can tolerate. Any other girl that comes near my darling, I don’t care who they are or what they want; I’ll kill them."
