CHAPTER 326: CHAPTER 165: WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU TODAY (PART 2)
Sang Wan "pfft" chuckled and unconsciously glanced back, noticing no one was around, then proceeded to eat.
The two teased and flirted playfully for a while until Sang Wan, mindful of paying respects and the matter concerning the third house, urged him to hurry, and Shi Fengju finally reluctantly stopped. After breakfast, they rinsed their mouths and donned their fur-lined satin cloaks to head over to Mrs. Wang’s.
"How come you’re later than usual today?" Mrs. Wang was already accompanied by Shi Yumei, who couldn’t help but complain upon seeing them arrive leisurely.
"Had a bit too much to do yesterday, got tired," Shi Fengju replied with a faint smile.
Shi Yumei gave him a disparaging glance and hummed lowly, distinctly dissatisfied with Sang Wan not joining the conversation.
"These past few days have been indeed busier, Miss Wan has truly worked hard!" Mrs. Wang spoke, "But no matter how hard it is, the work must be done well, and we can’t let people pick out faults!"
"Mother, rest assured, Miss Wan remembers!" Sang Wan responded promptly with a respectful smile.
Mrs. Wang nodded with a satisfied smile, "That’s good to hear!"
Sang Wan quickly reported to Mrs. Wang everything that was arranged yesterday and what needed to be done today, including the various tasks to prepare for the upcoming celebration, the purchases, and offerings from the manor.
Mrs. Wang listened with a smile, didn’t ask much nor was she critical. When Sang Wan asked for advice, sometimes Mrs. Wang would casually mention a suggestion or two, but most of the time she simply said, "You handle it as you see fit!" or "Consult with the servant in charge, check last year’s routines!" Beyond that, she still had no further comments.
"Hey, I say, little brother, are you alright?" Shi Yumei called out unexpectedly, eyeing Shi Fengju with a doubtful gaze.
In a moment, everyone’s attention was drawn by Shi Yumei’s remark, and all looked at Shi Fengju.
"What do you mean, sis? I’m perfectly fine, aren’t I!" Shi Fengju was bewildered.
"You really okay?" Shi Yumei questioned skeptically, "You look a bit absent-minded, and you keep smiling at your wife as if you don’t recognize her."
Sang Wan’s face flushed instantly, and she lowered her eyes shyly. She thought to herself how this person just couldn’t restrain themselves, showing affection even in front of others.
But Shi Fengju was indeed in a trance, admiring his wife. The more he looked, the more he found her attractive, the more he liked her. Recollecting the soul-stirring feelings from last night and this morning, and the thought of pressing her beneath him filled him with pleasure, and unconsciously, his lips curved into a smile. Little did he know his sister would cause such a fuss.
Shi Fengju felt slightly embarrassed, coughed, and frowned, "Sis, what are you rambling about! I was just listening to mother and Miss Wan talking. Is it really like what you say it is?"
"How could it not be? Even if not now, it was just then. You were acting really strange!" Shi Yumei insisted.
"Sis, honestly, you should stop overthinking all the time!" Shi Fengju sighed helplessly, then said to Sang Wan, "Miss Wan, let’s go check out Jicui Pavilion, see how the decorations are coming along. When those big and small furnishings could be arranged."
"Go ahead, go ahead!" Mrs. Wang heard them and nodded as well, "Your third aunt is really impatient, so keen on moving in! As long as the main furnishings are fine, let the rest be sorted out by themselves later!"
Sang Wan seized the opportunity to stand up, replied with a smile, and left with Fengju.
"You don’t understand these matters of the inner courtyard, why not stay and keep mother company instead? Why add to the chaos, let Miss Wan take care of it!" Shi Yumei couldn’t stand seeing Shi Fengju spending all his time with Sang Wan, and couldn’t help but speak up.
"I’m more familiar with the third uncle and third aunt’s preferences. What’s the harm in looking over it? Miss Wan has never interacted with them; how would she know everything? Sis, why don’t you join us?" Shi Fengju said with a smile.
Shi Yumei couldn’t bother with the hassle and shook her head in disgust, "You go if you want, I certainly won’t!"
Shi Fengju laughed, took Sang Wan by the hand, and they left together.
Once away from Mrs. Wang’s place, Sang Wan swept a glance at the followings maids to signal them to move back, then with both shyness and annoyance whispered through gritted teeth to Shi Fengju, "You need to restrain yourself in front of others, don’t become a laughingstock! Really, you —"
Shi Fengju couldn’t help but chuckle, gently stroked her blushing cheek, and said with a laugh, "Really what? Who could resist? No matter how much I look, I can’t get enough. It’s a pity we can’t afford delay today, otherwise, it’d be so much better to cozy up and chat in our room, why suffer out here!"
"Your words are getting more outrageous!" Sang Wan scolded him. "If you keep being so reckless, I will get angry. What if the servants gossip, how am I to manage them later?"
Shi Fengju nodded somewhat despondently and sighed lightly, "You’re right, I’ve been negligent. Rest assured, I’ll be more careful."
Seeing him a bit downcast and not wanting to sadden him, Sang Wan softened her voice to a barely audible murmur, "At most, when we return to our room... you may do as you please..."
"What?" Shi Fengju’s eyes lit up as he asked with a smile.
Sang Wan, blushing, lightly spat, "Nothing! If you didn’t hear it, just let it be! Let’s hurry along!"
Shi Fengju chuckled, "You have to keep your word, I heard it loud and clear!"
Sang Wan gave him a look and fell silent, Shi Fengju laughed heartily, and just as he was about to wrap his arm around her, he thought better of it and, instead, walked side by side with her towards the Jicui Pavilion.
At the Jicui Pavilion, Mrs. Li and two housekeeping maids were busily directing everyone to move and arrange various pieces of furniture inside from the courtyard. Seeing the couple arrive, they halted to pay their respects.
"Young master, and madam have arrived!" Mrs. Li approached with a smile, "Young master, madam, rest assured, everything will be in place by the morning. Those decorations, furniture, and utensils were already checked against the inventory by Liu Ya yesterday; we can move them from the warehouse this afternoon to set them up! We are not knowledgeable about this, so when the time comes, we will need the young master and madam to decide. For now, you both should head back and rest!"
