Rebirth: Divorcing the Billionaire
Chapter 173 - 171: The Scheming Man Comes Knocking
CHAPTER 173: CHAPTER 171: THE SCHEMING MAN COMES KNOCKING
Jiang Qimeng’s private detective frantically took photos, sending them to her. She, in turn, forwarded them to Si Yuhuan.
Every time, whether it was shopping, eating, or hanging out with friends, she would "coincidentally" catch Jian Xi with different men, laughing and talking, "acting intimately."
Si Yuhuan had looked at the previous photos without much concern, until today.
When he saw Jian Xi dining with Fu Shengyuan, he abruptly shot up from the bed.
Yan Qing had just brought in food when Si Yuhuan grabbed his coat and rushed out.
"Boss, what’s going on?"
The only response Yan Qing received was the wave of anger radiating from Si Yuhuan, who didn’t even bother to look back.
"It’s over. The madam must have provoked the boss again," Yan Qing lamented, on the verge of tears. When would these two stop their shenanigans!
"Wait for me." The boss was still sick; for safety reasons, Yan Qing now stayed close at all times.
After sending the photos, Jiang Qimeng was in a good mood.
Si Yuhuan must be furious when he sees them. Then Jian Xi will really be in for it.
She had to make Yuhan realize who was truly loyal and chaste, a good woman for him.
After much thought, still not feeling reassured, she dialed that number again.
Jiang Qimeng demanded, "Why haven’t you made your move yet?"
"What’s the rush?"
She flew into a rage. "How can I not be in a hurry?"
If Jian Xi doesn’t die, how can I ever take her place?
"I’m warning you, if you want to cooperate properly, then don’t drag your feet."
The person on the other end sounded impatient. "She has formidable bodyguards. We have to wait for her to let her guard down, right? Otherwise, if we fail time and again, even a fool would be on alert."
"Fine, fine. Just make sure you kill Jian Xi as soon as possible."
Jiang Qimeng hung up, feeling a bit odd. They had agreed so readily a few days ago, so why the delay today? Could they really be afraid of Jian Xi’s bodyguards?
「Fuyuan Official Residence.」
No sooner had Jian Xi stepped upstairs than a dark shadow pounced on her.
Instinctively, she kicked out.
A familiar grunt sounded, and Jian Xi asked in shock, "Si Yuhuan?"
Panicked, she hit the light switch. As the room lit up, she saw the man lying beside her, looking incredibly frail.
"Hey, if you’re not dead, get up. Don’t expect me to take responsibility."
Fourth Brother’s medicine was too potent. Several days had passed, and Si Yuhuan was still so ill? She had just thought someone from the Fu Family was there to cause trouble; she hadn’t held back at all with that kick.
Si Yuhuan felt his stomach churning violently. He had never been this humiliated in his life. He tried to stand up shakily but just couldn’t get to his feet.
Jian Xi’s eyes narrowed as she went over to help him up. "Are you really hurt?"
Sensing the concern in her voice, Si Yuhuan leaned into her embrace. The scent that was uniquely hers entered his nostrils as he rested his chin on her forehead and asked weakly, "Where have you been?"
"What’s it to you?" Jian Xi tried to push him away, but he was dead weight, unmoving.
Si Yuhuan, not wanting to crush her, wrapped one arm around her slender waist.
It had been a long time since they had been so close. "Of course, it matters. Grandpa has been urging me to bring you to the old residence for dinner. He misses you."
"Oh."
If it was Grandpa who missed her, then...
"I’ll make time to visit soon."
A slight smile curled the corners of Si Yuhuan’s lips, his pale, sickly handsome face meeting Jian Xi’s eyes. "Why did you meet with Fu Shengyuan? And have dinner with him? Do you even know this man?"
Jian Xi scoffed coldly, arms crossed. "Director Si, did you drag your sick body all the way here just to ask me this?"
Si Yuhuan was at a loss for words.
"Are you having me followed?"
"No." How could he possibly! And he didn’t dare admit it was Jiang Qimeng who had sent him the photos.
Jian Xi knew very well who was playing tricks behind the scenes but pretended not to. "Then how did you know who I had dinner with? After the divorce, shouldn’t we have gone our separate ways? You keep paying so much attention to me that I can’t help but wonder, Director Si, are you shameless enough to regret it and want to remarry me?"
Si Yuhuan’s face darkened. Some words, once spoken, were truly ugly. Especially coming from her mouth.
His dark eyes filled with rage as he squeezed her chin. "Are you really going to marry Zhou Yan?"
Jian Xi slapped his hand away. "Of course."
She poured herself a glass of water and began to drink it, but Si Yuhuan snatched it away and drained her cup in one gulp.
Lately, he had lost his appetite and disliked tasteless things. For some reason, however, he found Jian Xi’s water sweet and very palatable.
"Pour me another."
Jian Xi teased him, "Dream on."
"Your fourth brother did this to me, and I haven’t made a fuss. Is there a problem with me drinking a glass of your water?"
Uh...
Feeling guilty, Jian Xi hadn’t expected him to have noticed.
She instinctively went to pour another glass. Only after doing so did she realize and exclaim, "Are you trying to trick me?"
"I only suspected before, but now I’m sure."
Si Yuhuan ground his teeth. He’d been ill for so long, and the Jian siblings, one after another, had been ruthless.
"You deserved it."
Jian Xi couldn’t very well tell him that her fourth brother was mistaken in seeking revenge, and that Si Yuhuan hadn’t actually caused her injuries, could she?
Si Yuhuan relentlessly tugged at her wrist. "You need to take responsibility for me. Otherwise, if something happens to me, forget your fourth brother—your entire Jian Family will be in serious trouble."
"Get lost."
She would never forgive this despicable man who only knew how to threaten people.
Unexpectedly, the next second, Si Yuhuan fainted and collapsed to the ground.
Jian Xi went over and kicked him. "Stop playing dead. Get up."
The man showed no reaction. She bent down and touched his forehead. "So hot."
She took his temperature: Si Yuhuan had a high fever of forty degrees Celsius.
"Your brain isn’t fried yet. You’re lucky to be alive."
Si Yuhuan was right. If something really happened to him, the Si Family would turn Beijing upside down. The Jian Family couldn’t bear that kind of upheaval right now.
"What a curse!"
Unable to drag him, Jian Xi could only wrap him in a blanket where he lay, stuff some fever-reducing medicine into his mouth, and use alcohol wipes to cool him down.
The man had well-defined abs, not the bulky type, but a streamlined, firm physique. Jian Xi had touched them before during intimate moments; it was the best figure she had ever seen, with those captivatingly broad shoulders, narrow hips, and long, lean proportions.
As her small hand wiped his body, a certain part of the man began to stir.
"Pervert!"
Jian Xi threw the alcohol wipe at his face, frustrated and flustered, and fled in panic.
She didn’t see it, but the man’s slightly closed eyelids twitched.
Si Yuhuan felt it was incredibly hard to keep himself in check.
By the time Jian Xi had finished bustling about, it was nearly dawn.
Si Yuhuan’s temperature was still very high; his whole body was as red as a cooked shrimp.
Struggling with what to do, she reluctantly dialed her fourth brother’s number. "Fourth Brother?"
Jian Xi asked with a mischievous smile, "Are you asleep?"
Jian Sirun, engrossed in research, merely grunted a response. Jian Xi was baffled. If he was asleep, how was he still answering her?
"Brother, I’m running a fever. I need some potent fever-reducing medicine. My body feels so weak, and I’m really uncomfortable..." She pretended to cough a few times, feigning a weak and whiny tone.
"Are you at Fuyuan Official Residence? I’ll bring you the medicine." The moment he heard his sister was unwell, he immediately put down the test tube he was holding.
"No need, no need! I’ll send someone to get it. It’s just a small cold, nothing serious."
Jian Xi panicked. If her fourth brother saw her entangled with Si Yuhuan again, she’d be in huge trouble.
"Alright."
Jian Sirun immediately selected several of his best medicines and handed them to the person Jian Xi had sent.
