Rebirth: Divorcing the Billionaire
Chapter 178 - 176 Who Can Beat Me
CHAPTER 178: CHAPTER 176 WHO CAN BEAT ME
Upon encountering a supermarket, Fu Shengyuan pulled over. "To spare you from boredom, how about I get you some snacks and water?"
"How thoughtful."
Fu Shengyuan got out to buy the items.
Sitting in the car, Jian Xi glanced in the mirror. The reflection showed Fu Shengyuan wasn’t heading to the supermarket. Instead, he was circling their car and tapping on the window of the car behind them.
The person inside had just opened the door.
Fu Shengyuan slammed a fist into their car, knocking the person in the passenger seat unconscious. As someone in the back of that car tried to get out, Fu Shengyuan jumped in and immediately locked the doors.
Jian Xi couldn’t see what was happening inside. When she got out of her car, she saw Fu Shengyuan dragging a few young men—one with yellow hair, another with red—out of the other vehicle.
"What’s this?" She was somewhat stunned.
Fu Shengyuan dropped them on the ground, arms crossed. "Would you prefer I beat you up, or will you confess honestly?"
"We’ll confess! A man hired us to teach this young lady a lesson."
Jian Xi pointed to herself.
Targeting me? she thought. Who could I have provoked?
She approached them step by step, her aura imposing and superior.
Fu Shengyuan’s eyes lit up as he watched her. She wasn’t scared at all.
Jian Xi asked, "Tell me his name."
The yellow-haired man knelt. "Miss, we truly don’t know! People who hire for this kind of thing usually have important identities and won’t reveal themselves. We’re just paid to do a job; we don’t ask too many questions."
"Fine. Now, listen to me and do as I say. I’ll give you two hundred thousand."
Upon hearing about the money, their eyes immediately widened.
Jian Xi took out her phone and tossed it to the red-haired man. "Tell him you roughed me up too badly, that I’m in the hospital, and he needs to come over."
"What if he doesn’t care whether you live or die?"
Jian Xi smacked the yellow-haired man’s head. "Make the call. No more stupid questions."
The red-haired man nodded and hurriedly made the call.
He was quite the actor. "Listen," he boasted into the phone, "I did the job, and we’ve got the person. We just went a bit too hard, and she’s out cold. You better come see what to do with her."
On the other end, Si Junyan hardly hesitated before saying, "Give me the address. I’ll be there immediately."
The red-haired man gave the hospital address and room number, just as Jian Xi had instructed.
Jian Xi raised an eyebrow. "QR code."
The red-haired man displayed his payment code, and she decisively transferred the two hundred thousand.
Fu Shengyuan’s face was full of admiration for her.
This woman isn’t just brave; she’s also cunning, he mused. Truly a captivating enchantress.
"Mr. Fu, I’m sorry, but it seems dinner is off," Jian Xi said. "I’ll treat you another day."
She waved down a taxi.
Fu Shengyuan took her hand. "Miss Jian, handling such a big incident, and ditching a man like me to do it alone? That’s quite bold of you."
"I’ve always been very bold."
Fu Shengyuan couldn’t help but chuckle. "Miss Jian, you truly are amusing."
"But I’d like to accompany you," he added.
If my bodyguards gather and something unexpected happens, it’ll be troublesome without a witness, Jian Xi considered. Si Junyan is a good choice as a witness; most importantly, he’ll surely protect me to show off. I don’t want to put myself or my baby at risk.
"Alright then," she said to Fu Shengyuan. "I appreciate it."
Jian Xi handed a 100-yuan bill to the taxi driver and turned to get into Fu Shengyuan’s car.
"Miss Jian is truly generous to everyone." Fu Shengyuan’s appreciation for her was evident.
Jian Xi was unmoved. "Not necessarily. But anyone who tries to harm me, I’ll make them pay."
Resting her chin in her hand, her mind raced, sifting through the people who might want to teach her a lesson.
She narrowed her targets down to Jiang Qimeng and Si Junyan.
"Judging by your expression, Miss Jian, it seems you know who’s trying to harm you?"
"Two pieces of trash."
Jian Xi spoke slowly, her noble and cold disdain striking Fu Shengyuan right in the heart.
So arrogant, he thought. I like it!
Si Junyan rushed to the hospital. Following the address given by the redhead, he pushed the door open.
He was greeted by a kick to the face.
Caught off guard, he stumbled. If his assistant hadn’t supported him from behind, he would have fallen flat on his face.
"Bastard! Who dares to lay a hand on me?" Si Junyan cursed angrily.
Looking at the tall, burly bodyguards, a shiver ran down his spine. His current injuries were all their doing.
"Si Junyan, you scumbag. It hasn’t been long, and you’re already looking for another beating?"
Si Junyan’s eyes widened. He quickly realized he had been tricked.
"Damn it! They took the money and didn’t do the job!"
Jian Xi mocked him, "You paid them peanuts and expected them to kill me? When did you become so broke? Did your brother cancel your credit cards? How pitiful!"
"Jian Xi, I’m going to kill you!"
"I’d like to kill you too!"
Jian Xi ordered the bodyguards to beat him up.
Suddenly, the police arrived.
"Stop it," Jian Xi said, kicking Si Junyan lightly.
When the police entered, Si Junyan immediately pointed and accused, "Help! She’s trying to have these people beat me to death!"
Si Junyan was crying out in pain. He looked utterly pitiful and miserable.
Jian Xi burst into laughter. "Have some shame. This was clearly self-defense."
She turned to the police officer. "Officer, this man hired people to kill me. Luckily, they had a change of heart and told me everything."
The police officer frowned. "Everyone, take them all away."
Si Yuhuan was at his company when he received a phone call.
"Is Si Junyan your younger brother? And Jian Xi your ex-wife?" the police officer asked after introducing himself.
Si Yuhuan immediately tensed up, a bad feeling rising in his heart.
"You’d better come down here. Your cousin is suspected of attempted murder, but he got beaten up."
Si Yuhuan fell silent for a beat before asking, "Is Jian Xi alright?"
The police officer glanced at the stunning woman across the room. She stood confidently, arms crossed, exuding an air of control. He couldn’t help but admire her composure. "No, she’s fine," he replied.
I actually thought Jian Xi was the one in trouble, the officer mused.
"Hmm, I’ll have my secretary go," Si Yuhuan said.
Si Junyan stared intently at the police officer. "Well? Did my brother tell you to release me immediately?"
The police officer, looking helpless and almost rolling his eyes, said, "Do you think this is your family’s company? Release you immediately? Dream on."
Jian Xi sneered. This guy gets dumber by the day, she thought. Does he really think money makes him above the law?
"Officer, I want to press charges against him," Jian Xi stated. "The evidence includes surveillance footage and audio recordings. This gentleman beside me is a witness."
Fu Shengyuan immediately spoke up, "Yes, I’ll testify."
The police officer looked at the two. "You two...?"
"We just met and were planning to discuss a potential cooperation," Jian Xi explained. "Unexpectedly, he ended up witnessing an attempted murder in broad daylight, driven by a personal vendetta. Mr. Fu, you’ve really been through a lot."
"It was nothing," Fu Shengyuan replied. Jian Xi is incredibly sharp-tongued, he thought.
The police officer hurried to take their statements.
Once everything was ready, he informed Si Junyan, "Don’t even think about bail. You’re a suspect in an attempted murder case."
"Hey! Why should you just take her word for it? I don’t admit to anything! I’ll wait for my brother and my lawyer!"
"Fine, wait all you want," Jian Xi said coolly. "I’d like to see who in China can win a lawsuit against me."
If I hadn’t married Si Yuhuan, I’d probably be a nationally renowned lawyer by now, she mused.
