CHAPTER 389: CHAPTER 387 NEVER COMMIT
The doctor said, "These little rashes will probably take a few days to completely subside. Don’t touch them during this period and be mindful of your diet."
"Doctor, how come I suddenly have an allergy? I’ve never had to avoid certain foods before," Jian Xi wondered. Her health had always been good; even though she was picky with food since childhood, she never had allergies. Everything she ate and drank today should have been fine.
"You’ve had a child before, right?" The doctor looked up at Jian Xi.
"Yes!"
"Women who have given birth often experience changes in their bodies. Your allergy could be due to that."
So that was it.
No sooner had the doctor left than Jian’s Mother’s eyes reddened. "It’s all our fault—your father, your no-good brothers, and I. We didn’t take good care of you. You’ve suffered so much, and now even your constitution has weakened. We must nourish you back to health."
As she spoke, Jian’s Mother made a vow. "I won’t fight with your father for the child anymore. I’ll leave him with your father. I’m going to move to your place and take care of you until all your health indicators are normal. Then I’ll return to the old house."
Jian Xi was terrified. "No, no, no, that won’t do."
At this critical moment in her search for Mingming, if her mother interfered, she was afraid of being exposed. Although her parents seemed to be in good health, they were of advanced age. Any increase in blood pressure might lead to an accident...
"What? Are you hiding a man?" Jian’s Mother stared at her keenly.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
Si Yuhuan pushed the door open and entered. His unmatched long legs, sheathed in suit pants, took a few strides in. Standing before the hospital bed, he nodded politely to Jian’s Mother. "Is there anything I can help with?"
Jian’s Mother misunderstood. "Oh! Xixi! You’ve been secretly seeing him behind our backs!" She was furious. "You wayward girl, do you realize you’re engaged? How dare you mess around like this? Aren’t you afraid Zhang Yaxuan won’t want you anymore?"
Jian Xi glared at Si Yuhuan with fury. Si Yuhuan simply raised an eyebrow calmly. "Perhaps she doesn’t want to be with Zhang Yaxuan in her heart of hearts?"
"How could that be possible! She’s had his child."
Every time Si Yuhuan heard that Jian Xi had a child with another man, he felt a rage he couldn’t vent.
"Si Yuhuan, stay away from our Xixi," Jian’s Mother said, holding her forehead, feeling somewhat dizzy. "You two are history. Hanging onto each other now isn’t good for either of you."
Jian Xi, without a moment’s hesitation, supported her mother and helped her sit down. "Si Yuhuan, get out."
He had come today just to pick a fight.
"Xixi, how could you do this!" Jian’s Mother truly couldn’t understand and was almost faint from anger.
"Jian Xi asked me to help her find her child."
With that one sentence, the whole room fell silent.
"What child?" Jian’s Mother glared at Jian Xi. "Is the child he’s talking about Mingming? What on earth is going on!" She was frantic.
Jian Xi screamed in anger, "Si Yuhuan, you did this on purpose, didn’t you!"
"Jian Xi! What on earth happened to Mingming!" Jian’s Mother got up abruptly, felt dizzy, and collapsed back onto the chair.
Si Yuhuan stepped forward to support her and took out a Quick-acting Heart-saving Pill, handing it over.
SMACK!
Jian’s Mother slapped it away. "I don’t want your things! I only want the truth, the truth of the matter!"
Si Yuhuan, undeterred, once again took out six pills. "Auntie, you should still take some. It will ease your heart."
Jian’s Mother, considering her own health, glared fiercely at Si Yuhuan, snatched the pills, and stuffed them into her mouth.
"Si Yuhuan, are you a devil?" Jian Xi cried out. "I’m already in the hospital, and you still shamelessly pursue me here!"
He fiercely clutched Jian Xi’s wrist, his eyes holding a determination she had never seen before. "I won’t allow you to marry Zhang Yaxuan."
Si Yuhuan’s face was cold. "Mingming was stolen at birth. Jian Xi has been searching for him all these months. Finally, there’s a lead. Right now, in all of Beijing, I’m the only one who can help Jian Xi get the child back. My only demand is that Jian Xi not marry Zhang Yaxuan."
He had finally lost his patience. To seek her out and use such despicable, shameless tactics, causing Jian’s Mother harm—it was a last resort born of desperation.
"Is what he said true?" Jian’s Mother asked Jian Xi.
No wonder Jian Xi always suddenly returned to the country. No wonder every time she came home and saw Qianqian, she looked so guilt-ridden. And every time someone brought up Mingming, she was evasive.
So Mingming was lost.
Jian’s Mother was heartbroken. "What about Zhang Yaxuan? Why isn’t he here?"
Compared to Si Yuhuan, she hated Zhang Yaxuan even more—the man who got Xixi pregnant but couldn’t take responsibility like a man.
He was a real scoundrel! To this day, she hadn’t even met him. This prospective son-in-law was an utter scoundrel.
As Jian Xi was still thinking about how to make excuses for Zhang Yaxuan, Si Yuhuan spoke up. "He’s busy with his art exhibit. He’s been quite happy lately."
"If you don’t believe me, you can check for yourself."
He could provide evidence, but some things still required Jian’s Mother to investigate herself to be thoroughly disappointed.
"Jian Xi, Jian Xi!" Jian’s Mother exclaimed. "You were blind once and fell in love with the wrong man. How could you make the same mistake twice? Do you plan to be ruined by men all your life?"
Jian Xi felt terribly wronged! With Si Yuhuan right there, she had no way to explain anything. All she could do was brace herself and endure the scolding.
"Get Zhang Yaxuan to get back here immediately to look for the child!" Jian’s Mother ordered, pointing at Jian Xi. "To think he has had no involvement in such a critical matter! Is he even a man! And you, get your brothers back here immediately! They’re always focused on developing their careers abroad and never in the country. At a critical time like this, not a single one of them is useful!"
Jian Xi felt relieved that Si Yuhuan hadn’t mentioned exactly what kind of situation Mingming was in; at least he had shown some discretion. If her mother knew that Mingming was now weak and hanging by a thread, in the hands of a ruthless organization, who knew if she would collapse on the spot.
"The other company wants to negotiate terms with Haohan Group," Si Yuhuan said. "They won’t do anything to Mingming for now. Auntie, rest assured, I’ll do everything I can to help."
Originally, Jian’s Mother looked at Si Yuhuan as if she couldn’t wait to throw him out, but now her attitude softened slightly. "I won’t be indebted to you for this!"
"You deceitful girl, keeping such a huge crisis from me!" Jian’s Mother’s eyes reddened, and she was on the verge of tears. "If Si Yuhuan hadn’t been honest with me, how long were you planning to keep it from me and your father?"
Jian Xi kept apologizing, "I’m sorry, Mom. I know I was wrong. I won’t dare to do it again. I promise to bring Mingming back very soon."
Speaking of bringing Mingming back, Jian’s Mother looked at Si Yuhuan. "Do you really have a way to bring Mingming back unharmed as quickly as possible?"
Si Yuhuan nodded. "Yes, I do."
Jian’s Mother’s attitude improved. "Alright then. Come over for a meal at our home tomorrow; it’s Sunday. You young people don’t take proper care of yourselves when you’re out. I’ll cook personally. You can have a decent meal."
Si Yuhuan’s lips curled into a smile. "That would be great. Then I’ll appreciate your effort, Mo— I mean, Auntie."
Jian’s Mother shot Jian Xi a sharp glance.
Jian Xi turned her head to glare at Si Yuhuan.
He was forcing her to concede! She would never capitulate!
