Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time
Chapter 205: Explanation
CHAPTER 205: CHAPTER 205: EXPLANATION
Yan Hui asked with a detached expression, "Grandpa Zhong, how have you been since you came in?"
For him, Old Sir Zhong’s health was of utmost importance, everything else took a backseat.
Hearing Yan Hui’s question, Aunt Zheng visibly showed a hint of disappointment, and Zheng Yun turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
Old Sir Zhong gave a noncommittal "hmm," then expressed his dissatisfaction with, "Aunt Zheng is still waiting for you to speak."
Yan Hui obediently said, "Firing Zheng Yun was a decision made from the company’s perspective. Zheng Yun entered my office unauthorized and used my computer to delete my emails. Such misconduct would lead to the same decision regardless of which employee it was."
He did not mention anything about Wan Chu’er.
Aunt Zheng said sadly, "Xiao Hui, you and Yunyun grew up together. Is it necessary to be so harsh just because Yunyun used your computer?"
After Yan Hui came here at the age of thirteen, he lived under the same roof with Zheng Yun for three years. However, in his first year, he didn’t take a liking to Zheng Yun at all, and in the following two years, they avoided each other as much as possible.
Their relationship was not close enough to freely use each other’s computers; Aunt Zheng was misconstruing the situation.
Zheng Yun had also joined the group company through normal recruitment channels. She earned her position as an assistant on her own merits, and Yan Hui had no hand in it, nor did it depend on any favoritism.
In the past, he didn’t take things to heart as long as they didn’t cross his lines because he always separated personal matters from business.
But this time was different.
Yan Hui spoke earnestly, "Aunt Zheng, if it were at home, it wouldn’t matter if Zheng Yun used my computer, but it was a company computer. My computer contains various confidential files from the group, and if leaked, it could cause substantial losses.
Although no damage was done, Zheng Yun’s actions had a very negative impact in the company. I cannot justify not firing her."
Aunt Zheng was taken aback by Yan Hui’s words and after thinking it over, she began to say, "But..."
"Enough," interrupted Old Sir Zhong from his recliner, "Yan Hui is right, without rules there is no square circle. One must be strict with people close to them, and let this serve as a lesson for Zheng Yun. She must not act recklessly in the future."
Yan Hui’s smile deepened upon hearing this; Old Sir Zhong was always fair, and calling him back to explain was merely to stop Aunt Zheng’s complaints.
Aunt Zheng’s husband had died heroically when he was young, and at that time she was pregnant with Zheng Yun, appearing very pitiful. Out of compassion, Old Sir Zhong had taken them in, even remarking then, "I will not let the hero’s departure be restless."
Thus, Aunt Zheng stayed by Old Sir Zhong relying on those words, and would cry and remind him of that whenever issues arose, putting Old Sir Zhong in a helpless position.
"Aunt Zheng," she was unreconciled and wanted to plead further, but was stopped by Zheng Yun grabbing the corner of her clothes.
"Mom, stop it, Grandpa Zhong is right," Zheng Yun said indignantly, "I am just upset that Yan Hui embarrassed me over some girl from university.
Nowadays, girls always want to achieve things easily with their looks. That girl was blatantly harboring bad intentions, and I was just looking out for Yan Hui, warning her so he wouldn’t get involved and face troubles because of it.
I had good intentions, yet here I am, facing such consequences."
Yan Hui’s expression turned cold, recalling Wan Chu’er’s request for Zheng Yun to apologize, he said:
"That girl’s name is Wan Chu’er, a sophomore at the First University. She has a boyfriend and doesn’t harbor the ill intentions you mentioned."
Upon hearing the name "Wan Chu’er," Old Sir Zhong narrowed his eyes and sat up sternly, exclaiming, "Nonsense!"
Aunt Zheng, her daughter, and Li Shan were all taken aback by the sudden outburst.
Old Sir Zhong said, "I’ve met Wan Chu’er a few times. She’s a good kid and doesn’t have those dirty thoughts you talked about."
Yan Hui continued, "I didn’t want to mention Wan Chu’er, but since it’s come to this, I might as well tell you what Zheng Yun did to Wan Chu’er.
She first went to school and pinned a cap of misconduct on Wan Chu’er, causing her to lose her honors and scholarships, and today she even had the police arrest Wan Chu’er!"
"What?!" Old Sir Zhong exclaimed angrily, "Zheng Yun, did you do this?"
Zheng Yun was already bewildered by Old Sir Zhong’s reaction; she didn’t expect that Old Sir Zhong knew Wan Chu’er and seemed to be quite protective of her.
If she had known it would turn out like this, she would not have stirred up the issue.
What now?
Zheng Yun quickly wracked her brain while organizing her arguments.
"Grandpa Zhong, I did these two things." She admitted it upfront, which Old Sir Zhong disliked denying.
"But I had my reasons. The misconduct isn’t something I fabricated. Wan Chu’er indeed exhibited misconduct in school. When she started school, she fell out with her roommate, claiming her roommate stole a Jade Pendant from her. Because of her suppression, her roommate has even taken a break from school now.
That’s one thing. Wan Chu’er also used her looks to flirt around in school. There is a classmate named Li Gang who has been unfairly pressured at home because of Wan Chu’er’s manipulations. This misconduct allegation was made by the school based on real investigations."
"As for calling the police on her, she broke into our company’s network, hacked it, and stole confidential information. I did it for the company."
After saying all this, Zheng Yun felt a sense of relief.
Old Sir Zhong then looked towards Yan Hui with doubt.
Yan Hui sighed internally, thinking to himself how good Zheng Yun is at spinning tales, turning black into white and white into black.
Getting Zheng Yun to write an apology letter to Wan Chu’er as promised might not be so easy now.
Yan Hui said, "I fired you from the company, and it has nothing to do with Wan Chu’er. It’s only because your actions violated the company’s codes and regulations."
That is to say, he would no longer argue with Zheng Yun about Wan Chu’er, and instead, he would bring up the matter of her dismissal first. As for the matter with Wan Chu’er, he decided to show Wan Chu’er’s records to Old Sir Zhong privately, to prevent being fooled by Zheng Yun, instead of further verbal disputes with Zheng Yun.
Zheng Yun hadn’t expected Yan Hui to pull such a move, not bringing up Wan Chu’er, making her feel like punching cotton.
She thought for a moment, then lowered her head and said, "Mr. Yan, I’m sorry, please give me another chance. I won’t make the same mistake again."
Capable of flexibility and admitting her mistakes.
That’s no simple feat!
However, Yan Hui didn’t respond and instead respectfully said to Old Sir Zhong, "Grandpa Zhong, may I stay at your house tonight?"
It’s not often that he comes back, and he didn’t want to just leave, despite the presence of Zheng Yun and her daughter.
Old Sir Zhong glared at him: "My place is small, so leave quickly. Seeing you all just annoys me."
Pushing people away again, which means that Old Sir Zhong approved of Yan Hui’s explanation and would no longer interfere with the matters between Yan Hui and Zheng Yun.
Zheng Yun’s expression darkened. She gave her mother a look that stopped her from speaking further, as saying more would just provoke Old Sir Zhong’s irritation.
