Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time
Chapter 208: Investigating Again
CHAPTER 208: CHAPTER 208: INVESTIGATING AGAIN
Zheng Yun lowered her eyelids and followed everyone out, leaving only Doctor Gao inside to continue massaging the Old Sir’s acupoints.
"What exactly happened?" Aunt Zheng asked anxiously.
Li Shan said expressionlessly, "Old Sir was looking at some documents when he suddenly felt discomfort in his heart. I gave him some Instant Heart Rescue Pills. After a while, however, he suddenly turned like this."
Zheng Yun asked, "Is it because he saw Wan Chu’er’s information that he was shocked?"
Since she had already seen that information, there was no use in hiding it any longer. It was better to ask clearly and understand what exactly happened in order to plan the next step.
Li Shan paused for a moment, then said, "No."
Zheng Yun’s gaze was sharp as she looked at him, but Li Shan remained as immovable as a mountain.
Yan Hui said, "Judging by Doctor Gao’s reaction, Old Sir’s condition shouldn’t be serious. We shouldn’t worry too much. Let’s wait until Old Sir wakes up before discussing further."
Zheng Yun huffed and remained silent, apparently agreeing.
In this family, Aunt Zheng had stayed the longest, but in recent years, Li Shan had gained more of Old Sir Zhong’s trust and had become closer to him.
Now that Old Sir Zhong had suddenly taken ill, no one was in a position to easily make decisions for others.
After a little while, Doctor Gao came out.
Everyone quickly gathered around, and Aunt Zheng was the first to ask, "Is Old Sir awake?"
Doctor Gao nodded and said, "Old Sir is awake now, but he said he only wants Li Shan to go in. Everyone else should go about their business."
Aunt Zheng seemed about to say something but then let her shoulders slump.
Li Shan then entered the room, and Doctor Gao added, "Old Sir can’t be subjected to stress. Let’s follow his instruction." Then he left.
For a moment, only Zheng Yun and Yan Hui were left at the door.
Zheng Yun glanced at Yan Hui and said, "Mr. Yan, may we have a talk?"
Yan Hui didn’t even look at her and said, "I’m sorry, I am busy." He then turned and walked away.
Zheng Yun faltered, biting her lip, but after a moment of thought, she followed him out. By the time she reached the door, Yan Hui was about to get into his car. She quickly ran in front of the car.
"Old Sir Zhong’s health is nowhere near what it used to be. He only trusts Li Shan now. Do you really plan on doing nothing?"
Her words were unclear, but both knew what she meant.
Since Old Sir Zhong retired from his position, he had been getting worse each year, increasingly not seeing anyone, even sending all household members away, and now even wanting her and her daughter to leave.
In the future, only Li Shan would truly be close to Old Sir Zhong, who had no other relatives. Could it be that Old Sir Zhong’s connections and wealth after his passing are all for Li Shan?
Thinking about this, Zheng Yun felt indignant, but she dared not directly oppose Old Sir Zhong, so she tried to ally with Yan Hui, who, however, simply ignored her.
Finally, Yan Hui gave Zheng Yun a glance, but that glance chilled her heart—it was filled with indifference.
The car started up and slowly vanished from Zheng Yun’s view.
Zheng Yun sighed heavily, her expression changing unpredictably.
Meanwhile, Yan Hui drove while contemplating the sudden illness of Old Sir Zhong. Li Shan had said it happened while looking at Wan Chu’er’s information, which had been upsetting.
Yan Hui had seen Wan Chu’er’s information and found nothing particularly noteworthy.
Or perhaps, there was something he was unaware of that, to Old Sir Zhong, made all the difference.
He turned the car and drove to the building where Wan Chu’er lived.
Checking the time, it was already ten o’clock at night. It was too late to visit Wan Chu’er now; it wouldn’t be appropriate.
Let’s do it tomorrow, Yan Hui started the car again and left.
Zhong Family’s old house.
Li Shan went in and saw Old Sir Zhong sitting up in bed, still holding that stack of documents.
He was shocked and hurried over, "Why are you still looking at this."
It was exactly because of these that he had the sudden illness, scaring everyone.
Old Sir Zhong shook his hand and said, "It’s nothing."
Li Shan observed his expression carefully and saw that he had returned to his normal state. With his heart lifted, he anxiously waited by the side.
After a while, Old Sir Zhong put aside that stack of documents and became contemplative.
The information on Zhenzhu was only a sentence long, mainly describing Wan Chu’er.
Unexpectedly, Wan Chu’er turned out to be Zhenzhu’s granddaughter. No wonder he found Wan Chu’er appealing, it was because of Zhenzhu.
The documents also contained information on Xiao Bai, so he learned that Zhenzhu’s granddaughter and grandson were both in Beijing.
He naturally also saw the matters regarding Wan Chu’er at the first university, that issue with Li Gang, and Ma Tianjiao stealing Wan Chu’er’s Jade Pendant which was all different from what Zheng Yun had said, referencing the Tiger Roar Jade Pendant.
He suspected that the Jade Pendant was the one he had left behind; to think it ended up in Wan Chu’er’s hands. Probably Zhenzhu gave the Jade Pendant to her daughter, and then it got to Wan Chu’er.
Now that Zhenzhu’s granddaughter and grandson had come to Beijing, they were bullied by Zheng Yun.
Thinking about this, Old Sir Zhong felt his face grow warm; forty years ago, he had bullied Zhenzhu, and now, forty years later, his own Zheng Yun harassed Zhenzhu’s granddaughter.
Zheng Yun needed a good lesson.
Old Sir Zhong really wanted to call Wan Chu’er and Xiao Bai to ask about their maternal grandmother’s affairs.
No, that would be too hasty; it would arouse their suspicions. He didn’t want Zhenzhu’s granddaughter and grandson to have a bad opinion of Zhenzhu, although what he did to Zhenzhu wasn’t good.
After thinking for a while, Old Sir Zhong said vaguely to Li Shan, "Go find someone to check on Wan Chu’er’s maternal grandparents in Wutong County." He would wait until he got further news about Zhenzhu before making his next move.
Li Shan was somewhat perplexed but agreed readily.
This night was destined to be one of tossing and turning.
Over at Wan Chu’er’s place.
Knowing that Jiang Kechu would return the next day, she cheered up and counted the days. It had been over a month since she last saw Jiang Kechu. After clarifying her feelings and future, her affection for Jiang Kechu grew even more intense.
The next morning, after she finished her run and returned, she started tidying the house and herself, picking out an elegant floral dress from the wardrobe, revealing her beautiful collarbones.
While she was carefully grooming herself, the knocking finally came.
Wan Chu’er jumped three feet high and rushed over.
"Uncle Jiang, I’ve missed you so much," she exclaimed excitedly, even as she opened the door.
As soon as the door opened, she stood there as if frozen in place.
At the door stood the distinguished Yan Hui and the weary Jiang Kechu.
Why were both of them together?
Jiang Kechu had already heard what Wan Chu’er had just shouted, and because of the displeasure caused by Yan Hui’s knocking, it dissipated a great deal. He stepped forward, stretched out his arm, and pulled the frozen Wan Chu’er into his embrace.
This girl seemed to have become prettier and actually started wearing dresses, which made Wan Chu’er look much more charming and lively.
Wan Chu’er widened her eyes, taking a somewhat embarrassed glance at Yan Hui standing to the side.
