CHAPTER 347: CHAPTER 346: H COUNTRY TRIP (PART 1)
The Old Master felt that Wan Chu’er acted impulsively, whereas Yan Hui always acted meticulously. Having Yan Hui by her side would be more reliable.
Seeing Wan Chu’er so preoccupied, it didn’t matter whether she was going to H Country to unwind or for other reasons—having someone accompany her was always better than being alone.
That afternoon, the grandfather and granddaughter chatted on and on for a while, and the next morning, Yan Hui came over.
Wan Chu’er said somewhat sheepishly, "Mr. Yan, I’m sorry to trouble you."
Yan Hui smiled and replied, "You’re being formal with me again. I was just getting bored. These past days, I’ve been pondering where to go, and here you’ve provided me with a ’sleeping pillow’."
Yan Hui always considered others like this. With his vast conglomerate, how could he be bored? There was an endless line of people waiting to see him from one end of Chang’an Road to the other.
Wan Chu’er smiled and asked, "Is it okay if we set off in two days?" Her passport and visa were already in order.
Yan Hui said, "I’ve already sorted out my company’s affairs yesterday afternoon. I can leave at any time. I have a few partners in H Country. If needed, I can contact them in advance."
Wan Chu’er quickly waved her hands, "No need, no need. We’re going to wander around informally. I took an H language course at school last semester, so we’ll manage on our own."
So Yan Hui and the Old Master knew that Wan Chu’er had long planned to take a trip to H Country.
After confirming the time, Yan Hui left the old residence.
Wan Chu’er visited the Jiang Family, where Mrs. Jiang was busy discussing arrangements for wedding guests. Seeing Wan Chu’er, she smiled, handed her a plate of pastries, and busied herself again.
Left with no choice, Wan Chu’er sat aside, nibbling on pastries. After finishing them, Mrs. Jiang came over and examined Wan Chu’er’s complexion with concern:
"Why did you come over today? You must have been exhausted recently. You don’t need to worry about anything this month. Just rest well at home. If you’re bored, one of my classmates just opened a beauty salon. The place is quite nice. Why not go there for fun?"
Her words were filled with affection for Wan Chu’er, warming her heart.
Wan Chu’er smiled and said, "Thank you. I want to go out and get some fresh air. I’ll be back in at most half a month. I’m here today just to inform you."
Mrs. Jiang paused, then said, "It’s good to go out and have fun. If Ke Chu was here, it would be best if he could accompany you. Don’t worry. After the wedding, Ke Chu will have marriage leave, and you two can go on a honeymoon wherever you wish."
As she spoke, she got excitedly caught up in discussing fun places to visit for the honeymoon. She went on for quite some time before returning to the previous topic.
"Look at me, getting carried away again. I understand, go and have fun. Should I ask Xiaoxiao to accompany you?"
Wan Chu’er hurriedly said, "No, no, my grandfather arranged for Mr. Yan to accompany me." Jiang Xiaoxiao was now a formal employee, very busy at the company.
Mrs. Jiang responded with an "oh," not thinking much of it. Since it was arranged by the Old Master, it must be reliable. She packed a bunch of snacks for Wan Chu’er before letting her leave.
It wasn’t until she was about to depart that Wan Chu’er sent a text message to Jiang Kechu, telling him she was going on a trip to H Country.
Who knows when Jiang Kechu would be able to see the text. Whenever he was on a mission, he couldn’t carry his usual mobile phone.
As the plane slowly landed at the capital’s airport of H Country, Wan Chu’er’s hand was clenched tightly in her carry-on bag; in her hand was a photo of Wan Shiguo.
Leaving the airport, Yan Hui hailed a taxi with her, heading straight to the hotel.
After freshening up at the hotel, Wan Chu’er suggested going out for a stroll. The journey, which took just over four hours, hadn’t tired her at all, but standing on the land of H Country, she couldn’t be as leisurely as ordinary tourists.
Yan Hui thought for a moment and agreed. He asked, "Where do you want to go?"
Wan Chu’er pulled out a map of H Country’s capital that she had prepared earlier, pointing at a temple symbol and said, "I heard the temples and religion here are quite distinctive. Let’s check it out."
In the following days, Wan Chu’er seemed captivated by the local temples and religion, visiting all the temples around and even participating in a religious event.
Yan Hui harbored doubts in his heart. Every time he probed, Wan Chu’er would smile and say, "It’s quite interesting. I just want to see how the religious customs here differ from ours."
Seeing that she didn’t want to tell the truth, Yan Hui didn’t press further but remained attentive, caring for her needs.
That noon, while dining at a restaurant, Yan Hui suddenly noticed that Wan Chu’er had gone silent. Turning his head, he saw her gaze fixed unblinkingly on the TV mounted on the restaurant wall.
The TV was broadcasting news, seemingly a funeral of a major family in H Country, with complex rituals and a grand scene, with all sorts of people organized and orderly.
He shook his head slightly, watched the TV for a while, found nothing unusual, and continued eating.
On the surface, Wan Chu’er appeared calm, but inside, her heart was anything but.
The fleeting image on the TV showed a few wooden cages in a group of monks. Each cage was as tall as a person, each containing an individual clad in loose, five-element colored attire, with expressionless faces.
Uninformed viewers might think it was part of the funeral rites, but Wan Chu’er, who had extensively researched H Country’s ritual books, knew that those individuals in cages were actually human sacrifices!
This country was insane!
Such inhumane rituals dared to be broadcasted on television!
Truly unabashed!
The TV swiftly changed to another program in a few minutes.
It took Wan Chu’er quite some time to calm her racing heart. She looked at the food in front of her and said to Yan Hui, "I’ll settle the bill."
Without waiting for Yan Hui’s response, she stood up and walked toward the cashier.
Yan Hui observed Wan Chu’er, who was chatting with the restaurant owner in not-so-fluent H language. Over the past days, it had always been Wan Chu’er communicating with the locals, claiming it was to practice her H language.
After paying the bill, Wan Chu’er received news that the funeral broadcasted on TV was for the thirteenth-generation Sect Leader of a prominent H Country family, and the funeral rites would continue for nine days. Today was the seventh day.
Leaving the restaurant, Wan Chu’er suddenly said to Yan Hui, "Mr. Yan, I would like to travel to Andong, which is about ninety kilometers from here. There’s an event I’m interested in seeing."
