CHAPTER 350: CHAPTER 349: THE TERRIFYING TRUTH

Despite having spent a sleepless night, Wan Chu’er was extremely excited. She didn’t feel sleepy at all, so she took a hot shower first, washing away the chill from the graveyard, and changed into a new set of clothes from head to toe.

The clothes she wore tonight were rolled up into a ball, packed in a plastic bag, and she planned to throw them away.

She made herself a strong cup of coffee then started to fiddle with the photos she had taken with her camera.

After looking for a while, she roughly understood what the underground ritual was all about, and she suddenly felt chills all over, stunned by the cult of H country.

The person in the coffin underground was once a significant figure in H country, extolled at length on the stone statue. Those who were unaware of the truth might even think that this person was a reincarnation of the Jade Emperor. In Wan Chu’er’s eyes, he was nothing but the founder of a cult.

For what they called rebirth, his descendants had been making various offerings for the past fifteen years.

Apart from the five live human sacrifices corresponding to the five elements underground, every five years, there would be a massive live human sacrifice, such as the New World mall collapse in H country that happened five years ago, a disaster that shocked the world, claiming the lives of more than six hundred people.

The cruise ship sinking in the nearby sea ten years ago, more than five hundred people died.

The train derailment fifteen years ago, three hundred people died.

Who would have thought these major accidents were just offerings orchestrated by the president’s family, sacrificing so many lives and blood. Wan Chu’er thought those people were simply maniacs, inhumane maniacs!

And it was such maniacs who had ascended to the presidency of H country!

Every time Wan Chu’er glanced at the kindly-faced president, she couldn’t help but be seized by waves of horror, this was beyond her imagination and understanding; she couldn’t believe such things actually happened in the world!

"Knock knock knock—"

Suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"Ah—" Wan Chu’er screamed in fright, falling straight from her chair to the ground, clutching her chest and gasping for air.

Yan Hui woke up in the morning and didn’t see Wan Chu’er coming out for breakfast. After waiting for ten minutes, he came to knock on the door.

Little did he know that after just three knocks, a scream came from inside the room. Yan Hui leaped in shock. In his memory, Wan Chu’er was strong and brave. He had never seen her lose her composure. So his immediate thought was that something had happened to Wan Chu’er.

He immediately knocked harder on the door and shouted loudly, "Chuchu, what’s wrong with you? Chuchu, it’s Yan Hui, I’m calling for help right now."

He wanted to break down the door but unfortunately, the door of a five-star hotel wasn’t so easily breached.

Hearing the panicked and urgent calls from Yan Hui outside, Wan Chu’er came to her senses. She hurried to the door and opened it, "I’m fine, everything’s fine..."

But she saw Yan Hui with a pale face, full of panic and urgency. Upon seeing her, he immediately pulled her out, checked her up and down to make sure she was okay before calming down.

It turned out she meant so much to Yan Hui; Wan Chu’er was very touched and made a decision in an instant.

"Mr. Yan, let’s talk inside."

Yan Hui nodded and then waved his hand to the people in the corridor who had been alarmed by him, "Sorry for the disturbance, everyone." He regained his usual graceful gentlemanly demeanor.

Seeing the two enter the room, the people in the corridor dispersed.

Having entered the room, Yan Hui saw a chair overturned on the ground in the living room outside. He asked with a smile, "Did you just fall off the chair?"

Wan Chu’er replied somewhat embarrassingly, "Uh-huh, I got scared by your knocking and fell off the chair."

Yan Hui widened his eyes in disbelief. Was his knocking really that terrifying?

Wan Chu’er took a deep breath and handed over her laptop to Yan Hui, urging him to look at the photos inside.

Yan Hui took the laptop with confusion. The first thing that caught his eye was a chilling photo. Under the dim light, an altar was clearly visible, with a towering coffin in the center surrounded by five wooden cages. On closer inspection, it seemed as if there was something trapped within the cages.

"What is this?" Yan Hui asked, his voice filled with a mix of fear and trepidation. The timestamp on the photo indicated it was taken early this morning. That meant Wan Chu’er had been there just earlier that day.

Sure enough, Wan Chu’er immediately confirmed his guess.

"I took this photo at two o’clock this morning."

Yan Hui tried to control his emotions. He really wanted to scold Wan Chu’er. Just looking at the photo, one could tell the place was eerie and terrifying, extremely so. Yet, she had gone there alone. What if something had happened to her? How would he face Old Sir Zhong? Old Sir Zhong had asked him to accompany her for what reason!

Seeing Yan Hui’s expression turn to one of suppressed anger, Wan Chu’er quickly spilled everything she had seen there to him.

The more Yan Hui heard, the graver his expression became. After a long pause, he said in a heavy voice, "We’re leaving this place immediately, returning to our country today."

Wan Chu’er let out a stunned "Ah," not having expected such a reaction from Yan Hui.

Yan Hui was unprecedentedly serious, "That place definitely isn’t simple. How could such sensitive information be leaked so easily? There must be some consequences you’re not aware of. We need to leave immediately!"

The thought alone brought a cold sweat to his brow, as he felt Wan Chu’er was utterly reckless.

Wan Chu’er replied blankly, "It wasn’t easy, we’ve been wandering around here for so many days. I’ve also reviewed a lot of information, and the mechanisms there are not something an ordinary person can operate..."

Yan Hui said, "..." How could this girl be so audacious!

Suddenly, Wan Chu’er remembered the five living sacrificial victims and asked, "Mr. Yan, those five people are quite pitiful. I think they must have been trapped there for many years already. What should we do about them?

I really want to throw a bomb in there, blow everything up, and see how they continue with their ritual!"

Yan Hui broke into a cold sweat again at her words. Bomb the tomb of the president’s family? That would throw H country into utter chaos, and she would surely become a wanted criminal there. No, they had to leave. He needed to tell Old Sir Zhong about this as soon as possible.

"You said it yourself, those people are barely alive; we can’t save them. Besides, they are people of H country; it’s H country’s affair. If we interfere too much, it could bring trouble to our nation. This isn’t the time to be recklessly righteous," said Yan Hui, patiently explaining.

Wan Chu’er sighed, feeling heavy-hearted. But with Yan Hui by her side, the chill in her chest wasn’t so unbearable.

She saw Yan Hui so determined and was torn. She hadn’t yet uncovered the information she sought, and she felt she was just a step away from discovering the truth behind Wan Shiguo’s sacrifice. She would be very unwilling to give up just like that.

Who knew that seeing her unmoved, Yan Hui directly began to pack her things. He grabbed the black bag from the sofa, intending to stuff Wan Chu’er’s belongings inside, but from the backpack dropped an item.

He looked closely and saw a crumpled and dirty paper ball. Yan Hui picked it up and asked, "What is this?"
