Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback
Chapter 393 - 402: Their Own Rooms
CHAPTER 393: CHAPTER 402: THEIR OWN ROOMS
Woof woof, as soon as the door was opened, a fierce black military dog had already rushed over, baring its teeth and snarling at the few strangers outside, its stark white teeth clamping shut as if they were about to tear off someone’s flesh.
The several people standing outside, except for Granny Lu, were all pale-faced. Qin Xiangmei backed into Hu Li, while Qi Pengfei hid behind Qi Xiangmei; both of them pushed Hu Li to the front. Hu Li was so scared that her teeth were chattering non-stop, as the vicious dog seemed ready to leap and bite.
"Conghua, go back."
Granny Lu commanded Conghua.
With a resentful whimper, Conghua ran to its kennel and stopped barking.
"You darn old hag," Hu Li, scared into a cold sweat and almost wetting her pants in humiliation, was furious. She really couldn’t let it go, thinking that the old lady had deliberately let the dog loose on them.
"How dare you set a dog on us?"
Hu Li rushed over in a fury, yanking a handful of Granny Lu’s hair. Just as she was about to pull again,
"Woof..." A large wolf-dog suddenly pounced forward, frightening Hu Li into quickly letting go. She stepped back and fell on her rear on the ground, covering her entire body in dirt; the cold sweat from before hadn’t dried yet, and now another wave of perspiration was forced out by the scare.
"Woof woof woof..." Conghua barked furiously at Hu Li. It wasn’t just Hu Li and her sons who were scared; even Granny Lu herself was taken aback. Conghua was usually very gentle. Qin Xiangnuan always joked that she had a pet Havanese because it was that lazy, spending its days sleeping without even bothering to bark.
Today was the most ferocious Granny Lu had ever seen Conghua.
Her heart couldn’t help warming up at the sight.
Good dog, she’d give it a few extra bones to gnaw on tonight.
"Conghua, go back for now," said Old Cong, patting Conghua on the head. Conghua reluctantly headed back, looking back every three steps, keeping its gaze on Granny Lu, then settling in front of its kennel, its eyes glaring fixedly at Hu Li and her sons. Its ears remained pricked, seemingly ready to pounce at the slightest movement.
"Quick, lock up that dog," Hu Li, still sitting on the ground with her legs giving out, demanded. Thankfully, Granny Lu always kept the courtyard very clean; otherwise, with all the rolling around Hu Li was doing, she might as well have turned into a mud figure.
Granny Lu had no choice but to lock up Conghua for the time being. She was actually worried that she might not be able to control Conghua, fearing it could bite someone. The dog’s teeth were not supposed to draw blood; once it tasted blood, it might become unmanageable.
Conghua had been with their family for many years, and to be truthful, nobody wanted to part with it.
With a smack, the door was shut, and it was only then that Hu Li crawled up from the floor, her whole body in a state of dishevelment, cursing Granny Lu under her breath sloppily.
"Mom, where’s my room? I’m tired."
Qin Xiangmei carried her suitcase in and tossed it aside without mentioning the annoying dog. With so many rooms to choose from, which one should she take? Of course, Qin Pengfei was also ready to pick one for himself.
"Sweetheart, pick whatever you like, they’re all our family’s," Hu Li said with a beaming smile, but her eyes were fixed on Granny Lu with a deadly stare. If Granny Lu dared to utter a single word of dissent, Hu Li would definitely slap that disgusting face of hers several times later.
Moreover, she placed her hands on her hips and started ordering Granny Lu around: "Aren’t you going to cook? Are you trying to starve us to death? In our Qin Family, we don’t keep anyone who’s useless."
Granny Lu sighed and had no choice but to enter the kitchen, telling herself to endure it. After all, she was the stepmother of Qin Xiangyang and his siblings; no matter what, she would wait for the two children to return before dealing with the situation.
Of course, Qin Xiangmei had the first pick. Ever since she was little, she was always the most pampered. She got to choose first before anyone else could, not to mention Qin Xiangnuan and her siblings. From childhood to adulthood, who ever took them seriously?
Qin Xiangmei first opened a door to find an empty room with nothing but a lonely desk inside. She curled her lip, not liking it.
She opened another door, but it was still not good. Finally, she settled for one room.
"Mom, I’ll take this one," Qin Xiangmei said, quite pleased with her choice. She thought to herself, could this have been prepared specially by Qin Xiangyang and the others to appease her? The room’s decoration and arrangement really seemed tailored to her taste.
Though it wasn’t a princess bed, at first glance, she knew the bed was not cheap. It was covered with a complete set of navy blue bedding, and the blanket was neatly folded. There was a large stuffed bear on the desk, and even the curtains were blue with small flower patterns. The room was very clean, the desk and chairs well-arranged.
"Go ahead," Hu Li’s eyes narrowed with a smile. After all, what her daughter wanted was hers.
Only then did Qin Xiangmei run over joyfully and jump onto the big bed. Mmm, she had a good eye; this bed was indeed too soft, and it even smelled faintly of detergent, quite fragrant. And of course, Qi Pengfei also had to choose a room for himself, as he was planning to stay here longer. Now with the Siheyuan, why look for a job? Before coming here, he thought about selling it, but now, he felt it wasn’t necessary. With so many rooms, if he were to lease them all out, he would make several thousand yuan a month, wouldn’t he?
He twisted a doorknob and opened a door to see that the blankets were all folded into neat tofu-block shapes. Although clean, the room was too simple, with nothing else in it. He closed the door with a smack, somewhat dissatisfied, and moved to the next room. The second room was too cartoony, with bedding patterns like the Smurfs, quite childish. But when he opened the third door, he knew this was what he wanted.
In front of the desk was a large bookshelf, filled with books. Although the blankets were also folded into tofu-block shapes, this room felt much more lived-in compared to the others. There was a green plant on the desk, the name of which he couldn’t recall, but it looked pretty nice.
He walked over, closed the door, and without a second thought, kicked off his shoes and pulled up the blankets to take a nap.
However, a short while later, he got up again, walked over to the desk, and pulled out the drawers one by one. They contained some documents and such. But when he opened the last one, there was a rather eye-catching box inside. Just from the box, he could tell it contained something high-end.
He picked up the box, and upon looking inside, his heart was immediately captured. It was a brand-new watch, with its hands currently moving, a traditional analog model with a metallic dial and a golden band. If he wore this out and rolled up his sleeves, don’t mention how flashy it would be.
