Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback
Chapter 462: Pretty Good
CHAPTER 462: CHAPTER 462: PRETTY GOOD
Of course, she would never admit that she was jealous, so jealous that Qin Zhiqing could stay here with Qin Xiangnuan, but why couldn’t Song Wang?
She kicked the blanket angrily and missed, kicking the bed instead, nearly breaking her big toe.
Jian Zhiqing shook his head, feeling relieved that he had married Qin Xiangnuan. If he had married a woman like Qin Xiangmei, it would have shortened his life.
Qin Xiangnuan was in a good mood, although there was someone she disliked nearby, seeing that person frustrated made her quite happy. Although it seemed like she was building her happiness on someone else’s pain, if that someone was Qin Xiangmei, then it felt all too good.
She ate dumplings joyfully; they tasted great. She had eaten half the box and couldn’t eat anymore.
Jian Zhiqing took the box, saw half of the dumplings were left, and knew she had eaten quite a lot.
"Take a nap," Jian Zhiqing tucked her in, "I’ll watch over you."
Qin Xiangnuan looked up at the IV bag hanging above, more than half was still left, but she wasn’t worried because he was there. Yet, she sighed,
"Brother Jian, do you think with this cycle of eating and sleeping, I’ll turn into a big fatso by the time I get discharged?"
"How could that be?" Jian Zhiqing chuckled. "You’re not well right now, you need to eat nutritious food to build resistance, that will help you recover faster."
"Sleep now," Jian Zhiqing touched Qin Xiangnuan’s forehead, "We can talk when you wake up."
"Alright, I’m going to sleep," Qin Xiangnuan closed her eyes, without thinking much more. It was rare for her to relax like this, to eat until full, sleep until satiated, without worrying about the store, making clothes, or anything else, just focusing on getting better. Yes, indeed, health is a fundamental asset. Without it, how can one make a living?
Jian Zhiqing tucked her in again, grabbed a book from the side, and started reading page by page. His phone in his pocket vibrated occasionally, as he had put it on silent mode because they were in a hospital.
He stood up, walked to the door, and answered his phone.
"It’s me, Xiang Yang, how is everything at home?"
Upon hearing Jian Zhiqing’s voice, Qin Xiangyang felt immensely comforted having been worried for too long. Now, every time he thought about his sister and brother-in-law still in the hospital, he felt anxious. It was only when he heard from Jian Zhiqing, confirming that they were alright, that he could breathe a sigh of relief.
"How is Nuannuan? Has her fever gone down?" While he asked, grimacing as his wife aggressively pinched his waist; he was nervous and so was Jin Juan - they were all worried.
"She’s doing quite well," Jian Zhiqing looked back and saw his little girl sleeping sweetly, her condition had improved a lot, and she wasn’t coughing anymore, so she was sleeping well. "Yes, let her sleep a bit more, she can wake up later in the evening."
On the other end of the phone, Qin Xiangyang finally relaxed, and Jin Juan’s grip loosened, perhaps seeing the relief in his expression, she finally let go of pinching him.
"I’m thinking of visiting her tomorrow," Qin Xiangyang was still worried and wouldn’t be reassured until he saw her himself, feeling like there was something heavy on his chest making him restless, making it hard to eat or sleep well; indeed, he had been eating much less these days, feeling distracted and even getting thinner.
"You guys are coming over?" Jian Zhiqing frowned slightly, "Never mind, don’t come over. She doesn’t want you guys showing up at the hospital; isn’t it enough that I’m here? In a few days, she’ll be discharged, then you can treat her to a good meal if you like. She said she’s so sick of tofu and cabbage that she could throw up."
Qin Xiangyang couldn’t help but laugh, that was so like his little sister.
His little sister, always so opinionated, too opinionated sometimes. In her, he hardly felt any authoritative presence as an older brother, except sometimes over food, when he could feel his role as the elder brother and Qin Xiangnuan as the younger sister.
Jian Zhiqing hung up the phone, finally persuading the family not to come here anymore. The family back home wasn’t informed about the situation to avoid worry. Only Qin Xiangyang and his wife knew, even Jian Zhiqing’s parents and Granny Lu had been kept in the dark.
He understood Qin Xiangnuan’s concerns; the disease being highly contagious, constantly reported on television and newspapers, indeed tugged at people’s hearts with fear.
He walked back, sat down, and adjusted Qin Xiangnuan’s blanket. She needed to use the restroom but there was no one else around, so Jian Zhiqing stood up to help, carrying the IV bag and lending a hand, even to a stranger.
Qin Xiangmei rolled her eyes as if she was quite unwilling, as though it was expected that people should help her.
Jian Zhiqing didn’t get angry; he was just too lazy to bother.
He sat down next to Qin Xiangnuan again, keeping his eyes down, his little girl was still the best.
After a while, the nurse came for a round, smiling when she saw Qin Xiangnuan,
"Asleep again?"
"Yes," Jian Zhiqing held Qin Xiangnuan’s hand gently, lowering his voice, "She just fell asleep, is the medicine almost done?"
"Yes, finished. This bottle will be finished today."
Jian Zhiqing looked up at the IV bag hanging beside, about half left, it would be finished in about an hour. The drip was slow, taking a long time, which could be quite uncomfortable.
After about an hour, the nurse came again, and removed the IV from Qin Xiangnuan.
Jian Zhiqing brought hot water, used a hot towel to apply on her hand which had become somewhat swollen from continuous needle use. The doctor had said that applying a hot towel would reduce the swelling significantly.
When Qin Xiangnuan woke up, it was already evening.
She moved her eyes around, and looking over, she saw Jian Zhiqing by her side speaking quietly on the phone.
Noticing she was awake, Jian Zhiqing gestured with his hand, indicating he’d be done soon and to wait for a bit.
Qin Xiangnuan sat up by herself, not feeling too uncomfortable, waking up feeling quite refreshed, thinking she might be ready to be discharged. However, the doctor had advised to observe for a few more days, and to continue with the IV treatments.
Jian Zhiqing ended the call and came over, placing his hand on her forehead, checking if she had a fever again.
Fortunately, there was no fever, her temperature was normal.
"Are you hungry, what would you like to eat?"
