CHAPTER 487: 487 VISIT PARENTS-IN-LAW

Bought ten sticks of fried dough and ten fried pancakes. These are to take back to the elderly at home.

Kong Demin drove, and they rushed to the village by seven thirty.

Tian Shulan was delighted to see her two sons return. When she saw the woman getting out of the car, she initially thought it was the elder son’s partner and wasn’t pleased. She didn’t find her attractive, but her sturdy build suggested she could bear many children.

"Grandma, I missed you."

Tian Shulan liked Tiantian—this girl knew how to speak sweetly.

Jianfeng also ran over, hugging his grandma’s leg. "Grandma, I really missed you."

Tian Shulan, smiling broadly, held onto the two children.

"Come, let’s go inside."

Everyone went in. Kong Demin held Sun Hongxia’s hand. "Mom, this is my wife, Sun Hongxia."

"Mom." Sun Hongxia hastily greeted her warmly.

Tian Shulan was taken aback. This second son was supposed to be quite accomplished, so how did he marry this woman? Hearing her call her the same as her son did, she realized what was going on.

With a smile on her face, she agreed. "Hongxia, hurry up and sit down.

Dehong, go call your dad back. He’s in the eastern field."

"Got it." Kong Dehong ran off. Sun Hongxia remembered there were still many things in the car. "Mom, there are also foods I brought back for you and my dad. I’ll go bring them in."

"Don’t always waste money. Your dad and I have plenty to eat and drink at home." Although she said this, her grin was quite genuine.

"Grandma, Second Uncle bought fried pancakes for you. They’re really delicious." Jianfeng was still circling around Tian Shulan’s feet, but Tiantian had already climbed onto the kang and went to play with her sister.

Kong Demin immediately introduced him. "Hongxia, this is my dad.

Dad, this is my wife. We’ve already registered but aren’t having a wedding because the regulations on this are too strict now."

Sun Hongxia quickly greeted him with a smile.

Kong Zhongyou agreed. He wasn’t really dissatisfied with this daughter-in-law; his son chose her himself, and as long as he was happy, that was fine.

"You’ll kill the chicken in a while."

Tian Shulan agreed, "Mengjie and Menglin are coming back today."

"Then we’ll kill two." Kong Zhongyou was particularly pleased with Huang Hongwei lately, so he was willing to treat him well.

Tiantian led her younger sister, who could now walk, and the three sisters all called out for their grandpa.

Kong Zhongyou’s smile grew wider, "Alright, you all stay at home, I’m going to the fields."

"Grandpa, I’ll go with you, I want to catch grasshoppers to feed the chickens."

"Alright, Grandpa will take you with him."

By eight-thirty, Kong Mengjie and her husband arrived. Huang Hongwei, once there, immediately helped with the chores, which was why the Kong couple liked him.

Kong Zhongyou introduced them to Sun Hongxia as well.

"Second Sister-in-law."

"Mengjie, you look really good. That’s why Tiantian is so pretty."

Kong Mengjie just chuckled awkwardly, not knowing how to respond. "Second Sister-in-law, I’ll go help Mom with the cooking."

It wasn’t until ten o’clock that Kong Menglin and Cheng Changsheng arrived.

This was Cheng Changsheng’s first visit, and he had been eager for a long time, but Kong Menglin was in no hurry.

Arriving so late on a first visit, Tian Shulan didn’t give them a warm reception.

Kong Menglin didn’t mind at all. Once home, she lay on the kang, playing with Tiantian and Yiyi, not doing anything.

The two brothers-in-law worked together, chatting and laughing, which finally made Cheng Changsheng feel a bit better.

Kong Demin wandered around the village, not knowing where to go. He had only come back for the New Year these past few years and didn’t feel much attachment to the place anymore.

But today, walking around the village, seeing the low houses and the kids running bare-bottomed on the streets, he felt somewhat comforted inside.

Unknowingly, he walked to the entrance of Jiang Xinyu’s house.

It hadn’t been lived in for many years, but looking up at the roof, it seemed it had been re-roofed, although the gate looked much older.

He stood there for a while, before finally leaving.

At noon, when work was over, everyone in the village returned, and people greeted Kong Demin. He warmly chatted with everyone.

This small village had produced two notable people, one being Kong Demin of the Kong Family and the other being Jiang Xinyu of Old Jiang Family.

Everyone knew that Jiang Xinyu was now a factory manager, quite a high position indeed.

When Kong Demin got home, everyone was already there, just waiting for him to eat.

At the dining table, even the usually unruly Kong Menglin behaved herself with Kong Zhongyou present.

Especially Tiantian, patiently feeding her younger sister, was particularly heartwarming.

"Tiantian was like Mengjie when she was young. Back then, Dehong and Menglin were looked after by her, and so is Tiantian. What a good child she is."

Kong Mengjie continually took care of Sun Hongxia. The meal was actually quite harmonious.

After eating, everyone went to rest. With no room for Kong Demin, they ended up separating by gender.

Sun Hongxia particularly liked Kong Mengjie, yet had nothing to say to Kong Menglin, whom she already knew.

"Mengjie, you’ve had three children, I’m really envious."

"Don’t rush, you’ll have kids sooner or later. By the way, where are you and my second brother living now?" Kong Mengjie hurriedly changed the subject, afraid Menglin would overthink.

"We’re living at Wang Dajiang’s place. Our home is being renovated, not far from yours."

"That’s great."

When Kong Menglin heard they lived at Wang Dajiang’s place, she thought to herself that it no longer had anything to do with her. She wouldn’t be with Wang Dajiang anymore.

In the afternoon at four, Niang San made dumplings together. After dinner, only the four of Kong Mengjie’s family stayed, as well as the youngest daughter. The family almost always stayed overnight, as they could only meet once a week.

"Mengjie, Second Brother found such an honest wife."

"Yes, I think so too. But it looks like she and Menglin don’t get along well."

Huang Hongwei would never comment on this; it’s something between the sisters.

"Hongwei, let’s bring Yiyi back during the New Year. During the holidays, Tiantian can take care of her. Then when Tiantian goes to school, if necessary, we’ll send Yiyi over too."

"You decide. I’ll listen to you."

Kong Demin drove Kong Dehong home, then took Sun Hongxia back as well.

"What else are you going to do?"

"I’m going back to see Yu Jing. You rest on your own."
