CHAPTER 301: CHAPTER 232: THOUGHTFUL LITTLE SWEETHEART

Zhou Xiaozheng watched as he smiled straightforwardly at everyone and then barged into the inner room. He didn’t pay much attention and continued to sit there, listening to Mr. Cheng discuss biographies and their casual chatter.

If he knew that his daughter was busy rushing to make his jacket, he would have probably jumped up long ago, afraid that his precious daughter might hurt her hands or eyes.

Zhou Jiao saw him rush in, holding a package of fur, and her eyes brightened. Because her son was asleep, she walked slowly to Zhang Guoqing’s side, "You found mink fur, that’s impressive. Quickly put it on the table and let me see."

"I looked for a tailor, but they couldn’t finish it by tomorrow. I had no choice but to bring it back for you to see. Can you handle the sewing now that you’ve finished your postpartum month? If not, I’ll take the fabric and go to the village to find my second sister-in-law."

Zhou Jiao opened it up, took a look inside, picked up a few pieces of mink fur and compared them, "It’s fine, a few days ago I already made clothes for the little girl at home. As long as it’s not embroidery, just one or two pieces won’t be a problem. You’ll see when I start working. I can’t stand someone else’s work; to look classy, these colors have to be matched well."

After speaking, she walked to the bed, took out the military green fabric from the space, and moved it to the table, "You see, everything’s ready, I’ll be done soon. You put all these things in the cabinet first. We’ll tidy up this evening."

Zhang Guoqing hid the things, sat by her, and watched as she swiftly threaded a needle and cut two pieces of fabric with a snip of the scissors. Folding up the remaining material, her hands flew, and soon there were two models of military green jackets. He skeptically looked at his watch; it had been less than fifteen minutes.

He then watched her arrange strips of mink fur with both hands, moving them back and forth on the table; he understood she planned to create a gradient effect.

Zhou Jiao quickly used the needle and thread to connect the seams, grabbed the green jacket, spread it on the table, placed the sewn fur on it, and began stitching. In no time, it was done; she picked it up, gave it a shake, and started sewing the fur exceeding the fabric into the jacket. In half an hour, the two exquisite jackets didn’t seem handmade at all; the lines were as straight as if machine-sewn.

Zhang Guoqing marveled, "I’ve heard long ago that your needlework is excellent. This isn’t just excellent; this is master-level. You made two jackets in less than an hour. You rest a bit first, I’ll go find a few buttons from the wardrobe for you to sew on."

Zhou Jiao watched him busy with button removal and smiled sweetly, "This is master-level? I’ve already planned to use the red satin from the space to make clothes for our son’s full month. I’ll simply embroider a tiger on it and add a golden lock; it will look joyous, perfect for the Lunar New Year in Beijing."

Seeing the leftover fur with pure white mink, Zhou Jiao gauged the length with her hands. Two pieces could be pieced together into a neck scarf for her mother, adding an elegant touch. She found light-colored fabric from the space, cut a long strip, and started working on it. By the time Zhang Guoqing returned with a few buttons, Zhou Jiao was almost done.

When she finished, Zhang Guoqing took it for a close look and found the seams expertly handled, with no sign of them being pieces. It looked exactly like store-bought, "This white one would look great on you. In the future, I’ll find some violet mink for another neck scarf. If luck is on our side, maybe I’ll make you a short coat. It would look amazing."

Zhou Jiao nodded happily, "Alright, I’ll wait for your fur. It must be warm to wear. It’s a pity I can’t make shoes; otherwise, I’d make you some fluffy boots, light and warm, unlike heavy military boots. Last time I tried them, and I was worried I wouldn’t have the strength to lift my feet."

Listening to her, Zhang Guoqing looked at her petite frame. He bent over the table laughing, unable to get up, also worried about waking their son. He suppressed his laughter, causing the table to shake. This reminded him to look for a shoemaker soon to have a few pairs of light boots made.

Seeing him laugh, Zhou Jiao followed with quiet laughter, "It’s nothing strange. Did you not feel that military boots weigh twenty pounds? The military coat is warm, but after wearing down jackets, it feels heavy. Imagine, if I wear the military hat, boots, and coat, can I still move?"

Just thinking about it, Zhang Guoqing couldn’t stop laughing, quickly waved his hand, stepped outside, and stood in the courtyard laughing loudly. The more he thought about it, the funnier it got until he was exhausted from laughing. Straightening his back, he saw Mother Zhang and the others looking at him worriedly, which made him laugh even more.

Mr. Cheng asked curiously, "Xiao Wu, quickly tell us all, what made you so happy, to laugh like this?"
