CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 68: CONFLICT ARISING?
Jiang Xue was talking with her parents in the room, while outside Bai Yuhua was busy entertaining the guests. As it was the baby’s full month celebration, quite a few people wanted to see the child.
With Jiang Xue’s permission, Bai Yuhua brought the people inside.
Soon, the room was crowded with people. Fearing that too many people might affect Father Jiang’s illness, Jiang Xue took them to rest in the adjacent room before the others came in.
Bai Yuhua picked up her grandson from the bed and showed him to everyone. Each person who came to see the baby praised how well he was born while stuffing cash into the baby’s swaddle.
When Jiang Xue returned from the next room, she saw the small swaddle filled with cash.
Jiang Xue watched and didn’t want to accept it, trying to return the money to everyone. But they said, "Jiang Xue, don’t be like this. It’s a tradition. Our red envelopes are for the baby, you just help him keep it."
Hearing everyone say this, Jiang Xue didn’t insist anymore, thanked each of them, and then saw them off.
Bai Yuhua watched from the side and started to smile. She was very pleased with Jiang Xue’s performance. Honestly, although Jiang Xue had changed, she still worried that one day she might revert to her old ways.
Especially since Jiang Xue didn’t really like to socialize, with so many people at once, she feared Jiang Xue might get annoyed.
Fortunately, Jiang Xue did not disappoint her, nor did she bring shame to the Mu family.
As one group left, another group came in. Jiang Xue entertained them one group after another until just before the banquet was to start, and the visitors gradually dwindled.
Jiang Xue finally caught a breath, then fed the baby, changed the diaper, and lulled him to sleep. Only then did she go to the next room, intending to take her parents to the banquet.
Unexpectedly, when she went out, she found her mother-in-law had already taken them to sit at the banquet.
Seeing her mother-in-law warmly entertaining her parents, Jiang Xue smiled and walked up to them.
"Xue’er, is the baby asleep?" Bai Yuhua asked with a smile as Jiang Xue approached.
"Yes, Mom, Tuan Yuan is already asleep," Jiang Xue smiled and said to Bai Yuhua, "Mom, go ahead and tend to the guests, I’ll stay with my parents."
"Alright then, you take good care of your parents-in-law, I’ll go and greet the guests over there," Bai Yuhua said with a deeper smile, leaving Father Jiang and Mrs. Jiang to Jiang Xue before departing.
Jiang Xue sat down next to her parents, then turned to look at Father Jiang, asking, "Dad, did the doctor tell you anything you’re not allowed to eat?"
"Yes, yes, the doctor said I’m taking medication now, can’t eat spicy food, or fish and shrimp," Father Jiang conveyed the doctor’s instructions to Jiang Xue.
Jiang Xue noted it silently in her heart, thinking she shouldn’t give those items to Father Jiang to eat.
Mrs. Jiang glanced at the table, not seeing Cheng Li, couldn’t help but ask, "Xue’er, how come I don’t see Xiao Li, didn’t she come today?"
At the sound of her mother bringing up Cheng Li, Jiang Xue’s expression changed slightly, and she said calmly, "Mom, I didn’t invite her."
"Didn’t invite her? Did you two have a falling out?" Mrs. Jiang was somewhat surprised. Being her mother, she clearly knew how close Jiang Xue and Cheng Li were, saying they were like two peas in a pod wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
But today, on Jiang Xue’s child’s full month, Cheng Li didn’t come. She couldn’t think of any reason besides a falling out.
Seeing his daughter’s expression change, Father Jiang glared at his wife and said, "Why bring her up out of the blue?"
