Rebirth in the 90s: Melting My Devoted Mr. Iceberg
Chapter 90 Who Took the Letter
CHAPTER 90: CHAPTER 90 WHO TOOK THE LETTER
"Yeah, Qian Cheng just called and said his wife didn’t receive the letter. Not sure where things went wrong, he asked me to look into it."
"No need to investigate further, I know where that letter ended up." Cheng Ying’s face didn’t look very good. Although some time had passed since the day the letter was to be received, she remembered it clearly.
That day Cheng Li went to the post office to make a call and then spoke to her for a bit. Just in time, she was sorting the mail for each village when Cheng Li saw that letter from the military.
At the time, Cheng Li told her that she was good friends with Jiang Xue and could take the letter back for her. Initially she disagreed, but eventually succumbed to Cheng Li’s persuasion and handed her the letter.
When she gave Cheng Li the letter, she repeatedly stressed that it must be delivered to Jiang Xue. But now, Song Anping was telling her that Jiang Xue never received it.
In other words, Cheng Li never gave the letter to Jiang Xue.
"Wife, you know? How do you know? Did you see the letter?" Song Anping fired off several questions when he heard his wife claim to know the letter’s whereabouts.
Mu Qiancheng is a soldier, losing a letter sent from the military could cause big issues.
"I did see that letter, and I know whose hands it’s in." Cheng Ying understood the seriousness of the situation; if the military looked into it, she couldn’t escape liability, and it might even cost her job.
Thinking about this, Cheng Ying felt a surge of resentment towards Cheng Li. She never thought Cheng Li would be such a person, taking the letter and withholding it, never delivering it to Jiang Xue.
If she had known this would happen, she never would have given it to Cheng Li.
"Whose hands?" Song Anping asked.
"Cheng Li!" Cheng Ying gritted her teeth and spat out the name, which made Song Anping pause and say, "Is it the Cheng Li from your village?"
Cheng Ying nodded, and Song Anping got a bit anxious, asking, "Wife, how could you give her the letter? Don’t you know that’s illegal?"
"I didn’t know. Cheng Li said she was good friends with Jiang Xue and promised multiple times she would deliver the letter to Jiang Xue, so I..."
The more Cheng Ying spoke, the more regretful she felt, blaming herself for being so foolish to listen to Cheng Li’s few words.
"Oh, wife, my dear wife, what can I say to you?" Song Anping looked at his wife helplessly, knowing this was knowingly breaking the rules.
Looks like he has to apologize to Mu Qiancheng and Jiang Xue tomorrow, hoping they can forgive his wife’s momentary lapse of judgment.
Of course, apologizing isn’t the main issue; the main thing is to get that letter back as soon as possible.
Thinking this, Song Anping said to his wife, "Tomorrow, let’s go find Jiang Xue and then go with her to Cheng Li to get the letter back."
"Alright, I’ll follow your lead."
At this moment, Jiang Xue had no idea her letter had been taken by Cheng Li, and was planning to go to the post office to inquire about it during the market in a couple of days.
At Jiang Family Village, in the Cheng household. Cheng Li, after being beaten by Jiang Xue, stayed home all day, not daring to go out. Although she had applied medicine to her face, the swelling had only gone down a little, and it still looked very bad.
Sitting on a stool, she held a mirror. Under the dim flame of the kerosene lamp, her face looked all the more ghastly.
Cheng Li stared at her reflection in the mirror, eyes filled with hatred.
Jiang Xue, just you wait. You dared to hurt me once; I’ll make you hurt ten times, a hundred times over.
